Amazing
I have worn the Fenix line ever since the very first Fenix around 2014. I recently had a 7X Pro, and this upgrade is phenomenal! The buttons are great (many reviewers complained, but I love using them as much as all the older watches), build quality is stunning, and battery life ties it all together. Thank you Garmin for the great watch!
Best multisport watch and tracker
I've done many, many runs, two longish backpacking trips, lifted weights, golfed and stationary bike workouts with this. Have had many fitness trackers (most recently a pixel watch) and this is far superior. Reliable gps, heart rate, training readiness. I probably charge once every three weeks. It's expensive, but it's my "can't leave home without it" device. LTE would be nice, but not mandatory. Debated between this and the 7, which probably would have been fine too, but I like the slightly bigger screen on this version. Very happy with it.
Awesome Customization
I love everything about this watch. From the battery life to the fitness metrics that it tracks. For starters, I get almost 2 weeks out of the battery. Thats using the gps everyday for hikes, walks, or for golfing. I feel that it keeps better track of your fitness metrics then some other bands. The steps and heart rate are 2 that I track daily. My heart rate is always spot in if I check it manually as well. It has given me confidence to trust the device. The golf app is another thing I use regularly and it is like having a cady with you. From giving you yardage to what the hole actually plays like and club recommendations and the green contours just top it off
Great looking watch loaded with features
Have another garmin watch but a friend had this one and he showed me a lot of the features it has and I decided I had to have one as well. Several different watch face displays to choose from and a lot you can download, can also change colors on the display. A real plus is the built in flashlight, wether you are an avid outdoorsman, hiking new trails, or just want a great looking customizable watch you cannot go wrong with this one!
Very disappointed. I do not recommend.
This is my first smartwatch. For the last 8 years, I've worn a $17 Casio watch with the standard silicone band that came with it. In those 8+ years, it may have come off my wrist a dozen times or so. Within less than a week of using my new $1,100 Fenix 8, I developed contact dermatitis on my wrist where the Garmin's "hypoallergenic" silicone band was in contact with my skin. That persisted despite my efforts to clean and dry my wrist, the watch, and the watch band thoroughly and diligently. During the first two weeks of ownership, I removed the Garmin Fenix 8 more times than I ever did during the 8+ years of ownership with the $17 Casio. Resolution involved discarding Garmin's "hypoallergenic" silicone bands and replacing them with a third-party nylon band. Garmin Voice Command is remarkably inaccurate, even in the absence of background noise. After several attempts to "set an alarm for 7 am tomorrow" resulted in alarms being set for 12:11 am, 12:07 am, 7:10 pm, and 1:07 am, I stopped using the feature altogether. The step counter does not accurately record steps. I constantly see a large number of false steps being recorded when I drive around town on well-maintained roads (Portland, OR). For a $1000+ watch, this is a massive disappointment.
Great, but Heart Rate Monitor has known problems.
Garmins program (Garmin Connect) and adaptive capabilities continue to impress. Sleep data has improved with the newer watches. Their hardware unfortunately has gotten worse. Specifically the heart rate monitor, mine will get stuck when I run- which is bad enough, if you do heart rate specific workouts like Zone-2 it really messes you up. Garmin's support suggested I buy a chest monitor, told me it's a known issue they're vaguely working on. No apology, no resolution, nothing. I've loved Garmins, and all my data from years is in them, but at this point for the price they are and with this experience I'll begrudgingly switch to an apple watch. I hope they get it together, I've been a longtime lover and user of their products.
DISAPPOINTED
Totally disappointed with this watch. After the second charge at the 72nd hour, the battery is at 47%... I only use the watch as a smart watch and only receive messages on it. I do not use navigation or phone calls. I had an Enduro 2 Solar Sapphire whose battery lasted 17 days with the same usage! After 10 days of use I will return it!
Get It! You will Love it.
Moved from AWU to Instinct 2x to this watch. It is bigger but I don't notice the size after a short time. Display is bright and clear and easy to see. Very customizable including the ability to add tons of free watch faces from Garmin IQ. Watch faces are completely customizable from color and information displayed. Much more customizable than AWU. Solar battery should last close to a month. I am very happy with the purchase.
Best fenix so far!
Great watch love the flashlight and solar extends the battery life tremendously!
Buying a SmartWatch
I was completely confused by the offerings of Apple and Garmin in the Smartwatch arena. I spent hours on their websites only to get more confused. Stopped in our local REI store and talked to Rashad. He gave me perspective and help me focus in on the Garmin Fenix 8 Solar watches. I spend the whole morning the next day doing detailed research on the Fenix 8 and went back at noon to buy one. I was looking for something to compliment my Montana 700i and Overlander that I use on my explorations of Southern Utah--Jeep and hiking. Not that interested in the fitness stuff, but the Fenix 8 seems a good solution to my navigation issues. I won't know for certain that it is the best choice until I've learned more about it and actually used it. I only hope I figure it out before it's obsolete!
