Worth every penny!
Absolutely love these shorts! The material is a linen cotton blend that looks and feels like they would be heavy to touch but when I put them on they felt light and were the most comfortable shorts thanks to the 2% spandex. They do have almost a canvas look to them but they are not stiff at all. Perfect fit in every way - they fit just below the belly button but are not too low and the 6” inseam is plenty long enough without being too long. I am 5’8” 145lbs and the size 8 (my normal size) hem hits at the middle knuckle of my middle finger. I don’t typically pay this much for shorts but I am getting these in every color!
Fabric isn't colorfast
I loved the fit and comfort of the shorts. But I wore them one night and got some food stains on them (a little oil and steak juice - no tomato or wine or berries). Sprayed Shout on them the next morning and washed them 20 minute later. They came out with bleach-like stains on them and are unwearable now. The Shout bottle says it's good for all colorfast fabrics. The tag on the shorts says not to use bleach, but this wasn't bleach. I've never had this happen with Shout before. Also, as others mentioned, they did come out quite wrinkly from the wash. But I don't trust the fabric to get another pair. The REI chat couldn't help me and said I should take them to the store when I get back from being away this summer, since I can't get back to the original store before I leave tomorrow. I'll try to take them to another REI where I'm going and hope they will give me a refund. I thought Kuhl were high quality products and I paid full price. Oh well
Great all around nice looking short
I love these shorts. They fit comfortably with enough stretch for total flexibility. Wash well - fit well I am a size 6 5'3"120#
Terrible quality!
Terrible quality. I bought two pairs of these expensive shorts and loved the fit and feel. I wore them hiking and for every day shorts. After owning them for only two months, the khaki shorts were faded, the stretchiness in the fabric was baggy in spots and they looked terrible. They also ripped in the rear along the seat and in the front. I am a slender, fit woman and I don't buy shorts that are too tight. These fell apart because I was active. Isnt that the point?
Runs small
Well made with a button closure instead of a snap which I really like. The texture is thick and sturdy. Pockets deep, but not too deep. I have another pair of Kuhl pants in size 16. They are too big after losing 25 pounds but these shorts are a 16, so size up.
Great shorts, but falling apart already
Loved them when I bought them. I buy a lot of Kuhl shorts and pants and they always fit perfectly. These are great because they fit well and are stretchy making them perfect for lots of activities. Unfortuneately, they are already falling apart. The elastic in the fabric is dying making them have funny baggy spots and the seam in back is coming apart. And let me repeat, they fit perfect, if not slightly big. Sad to say I will take them back.
Creases faded, wrinkles easily.
Updated rating - Initially loved these shorts. Lots of stretch for outdoor adventures and also looked a bit nicer since they didn't scream tech fabric. However after taking these on a trip, they faded super badly, like creased as I was hiking, and then the creases faded badly. And pilled. Super wrinkled after washing too. Bummed as I hoped this would be my go-to camping short this summer but they just aren't durable.
Revised Review
Originally I thought these ran small, but after wearing them, they stretched out a full size by the third wearing. They were super wrinkled out of the dryer. I had to use the highest setting on the iron to get the wrinkles out. I spent about 20 minutes ironing it and had to turn them inside out to get all the wrinkles. The seams are good and I love the color, but I wouldn’t buy another pair.
Looks good w nice stretch
Picked this up as a hiking short into would work for post hike due to the canvas like look. Went in thinking I would get more of a prana style fabric but really liked the look of these. I didn’t feel like I needed to size up but don’t have other kuhl pants.
Comfy and longer than others
Love these shorts for the longer length and comfort but dry lightly and carefully or they stretch and need ironing. Not my favorite color but that was all they had and I needed shorts.
