Does exactly what you would want it to do!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In the past few years, I have gone from wearing as little as possible to keep me cool to having as much coverage as possible. Keeping the sun off the skin is definitely the way to go. This shirt gives me complete coverage and seems to keep me at a pretty steady temp throughout my summer runs in Minnesota, which are often mid to upper 80s or low 90s with humidity. Before, at the end of the run, I would feel exhausted from the sun beating down on me. Now, my post run recovery seems faster and I don't seem as exhausted in the first place. Highly recommend this hooded shirt. It is definitely more of a standard fit (which it states). I also have the Astroman hoodie, which is a much more slim fit. I believe the Echo hoodie is also a more slim fit so if you're looking for something a bit less trim, this activeice one is the one to get. I feel like by it being a bit more baggy, though not too baggy, it allows the air to move through it a bit more, which seems nice. I am 5'11", 165 pounds, and the medium fits well. I would not want to go up or down a size at all. I got one in yellow and one in orange. I do think I prefer the yellow as the orange seems to be more of a construction orange(!) though I do still like it.

Kept cool in the sun

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is noticeably better than another sun hoodie I own and I got to test them both on a Mt. Baker climb weekend. The OR hoodie is well constructed, fits well, and most importantly, kept me cool and protected from the sun.

Keeps me cool in hot weather

I was a bit skeptical of this shirt to keep me cool on hot weather, but it works well. I have used several thin merino wool shirts as sun shirts quite successfully; so it was good to compare. This is a thicker material (compared to merino) , so definitely going to hold up well. It felt a little warmer than the merino, but not overly so. Loved the neck line and hood. Would feel comfortable with this in mixed company. My only complaint is that it held odor more than my merino Sun shirts. Not in the capilene forever stank that will never come out, but more in the, "wow, I just hiked a mountain and someone sitting next to me might know it". But it washed out well. Overall glad for the purchase. Love OR's ability to innovate.

Great addition to the alpine kit

I've been really enjoying this piece. It's a bit heavier weight than the Echo hoodie but still super breatheable. Have used it on a few Alpine scrambles where the slightly thicker fabric was welcome in the fall temps and will definitely be in rotation for ski touring this winter. Highly recommend if you're looking for a sun hoodie that is comfortable, fits well and allows full range of motion, and is still light weight. The echo is great as well if you're looking for something with a hood for trail running and higher effort / hot weather pursuits.

I know this is used for the sun, however, I have found this is a PERFECT base layer for fat biking in winter under an ultralight windbreaker(for downhill I bring an insulated jacket) The hood perfectly goes over my helmet because of the elastic in the material. This creates a warm, protective layer over my head without having me overheat on climbs. For summer, I found the material to be a little too thick and toasty. The colors are a bit off, not my favorite, but oh well, its function is too perfect for fat biking to make a difference.

I can't believe how good this is

This way, way exceeded my expectations. Not only does it feel fantastic on the skin and keep you cool because of the sun protection in the fabric, but the actual fabric itself absolutely does cool you down. There's something about it being moisture wicking but also actively cooling you down... I have no idea exactly how it works but it really does accomplish that feat. I've used it hiking, biking, and boating in the Eastern Sierras and it's quickly become one of my favorite outdoor pieces for anything active in direct sunlight.

Works as advertised

I wear the echo line of active wear when I'm working out of fishing. The level of cool I get from wearing the ActiveIce appearal is unlike anything I've tried before. It keeps me cool and I'm not sweating as much as I do with the echo fabric. It does come with the trade off of being a bit heavier than the echo and not as breathable feeling since it's a thicker fabric. I will choose to wear the echo fabric when it's a cooler day doing a lot of activity and the ActiveIce fabric when it's really sunny and warm.

Phenomenal lightweight coverage

I can't believe how comfortable this shirt is outside on hot days. It breathes better than most quick-dry fabric I've seen but also effectively blocks sun. I've worn alone and as a base layer while sitting around the campsite and while hiking. I don't find the hood to be super functional (perhaps it would be while sailing) as a hood, but it hangs gently around my neck, providing some protection without tugging at my neck at all (which is something I was a little concerned about).

12 hours in 110+

Spent 12 hours in the desert with temperatures over 110, and this kept me reasonably comfortable the entire time. The concept of putting on more clothes in the heat seems counterintuitive, but the fabric is very cool and breathable. The hood helps to make sure all the parts that are hard to cover with sunscreen gets some protection, and it's got plenty of room for a hat or helmet. If you're looking for a sun shirt, just get this one.

A little thicker than I'd like, but still a good sun shirt

I have a lot of different sun shirts as I live in a hot, sunny place and work outside. I was excited to try this one out, but I've found that it feels a decent bit hotter than the Astroman sun hoody (which is my favorite by far) or even the Echo sun hoody (a close runner up). The material just feels thicker on my skin, I get less of a breeze coming through, and I find myself wishing I had worn a different sun shirt. Good price though.
