much appreciated update to a Patagonia staple

The 2025 Patagonia R1 pullover hoody is substantially modified from previous versions. Changes include: 1. Use of half-weight Powergrid in arms, hood, abdomen, and back. 2. Relaxed fit in chest (previous version was too tight in the chest/underarms for me). 3. Longer arms designed for thumb loop use. This is now a stretchier and lighter technical garment to be used as a baselayer/light mid layer or an outer layer for high output activities in cool weather. I use it trail running in cool weather or under a shell in cold weather, as a baselayer in cold weather mountaineering/skiing, and for 24/7 use around the house. I appreciate the thumb loop sleeves and use them when running on cool days instead of gloves. I also wear it to work as a light sweater. The under-helmet, scuba-style hood is divine. For me, this represents the perfect mid-layer that matches my particular use case and body morphology (large chest, compact waist, and long arms). For colder weather I go to the R1 air hoody or Nano air light hybrid hoody. For warmer weather I switch to Helly Hansen Lifa active baselayer, Outdoor Research echo hoodie or Capiline cool daily t-shirt. For reference, I’m a 5’9” middle-aged male weighing 170 lbs. Athletic/runner morphology wearing men’s medium. I could probably get away with size small for a closer fit. For those who are familiar with previous versions of the R1, you should try this one on before purchasing. This is a very different garment in terms of fit and function. I hope you appreciate the 2025 model as much as I have!

Zipper makes it not worth it

It's a really nice looking pullover. Whenever I need a good active mid layer, it does the job without making me feel overheated. The huge drawback is the main zipper. It comes off the track all of the time, and it's not a normal zipper where it has the link to easily reattach it. You have to go in there and finagle it back into being clasped on both sides of the zipper. Really annoying, especially when it happens when you're out and about.

No, I do not recommend this product
