Fits right, and good comfort

I really like this pullover it fits right it’s really comfortable and it’s really is able to keep me warm but yet cool depending on what the weather is in the activity that I’m doing. I’ve had my doubts about it because it’s from Patagonia and I’m not always had great experiences with Patagonia gear, but this really did meet my needs and fit what I wanted to do. I’ve wanted it for a bunch of different stuff ranging from traveling in a car to out hiking to around just doing normal life usually as a middle layer insulation layer I guess in my daily life. It’s really comfortable the checkered pattern. The inside allows for air float in and out and it keeps you warm even on those days. Where is that insulation really needs to and it gives that actual level of warmth there too. It fits really well. It’s snug. It fits true to size. It does write up a little bit at the waist. I didn’t notice that’s when I have a T-shirt underneath it it will ride up my body my torso in that sense as well

Comfortable form fitting and warm

I'll start by saying this is my first piece of Patagonia gear, and I'm very impressed. This pullover is very comfortable. I've worn it with and without anything underneath. With nothing underneath it is very soft and comfortable and there is no chafing. I got an XL which is my normal size, I would say it is maybe a bit tight (cannot wear much more than a T-shirt underneath). This pullover is warmer than it looks. The inside waffle pattern keeps me warm and wicks moisture away. Even when I'm sweating I never really feel wet or sweaty, and I believe it is the waffle pattern allowing adequate air flow throughout. The cut of this garment is very form fitting, and I feel like it is cut and stitched together to move with my body. For instance, I can raise my arms without the whole pullover sliding up and binding around my neck. In addition to all the above, the chest pocket is a nice size, has a sturdy zipper, and is also well ventilated. I've worn this doing chores, hiking, and on the last few days of the ski season. My only complaint is not really a complaint but it's very warm, so I'm looking forward to having it next year for those really cold days in January and February. I'm really happy with this pullover and I am planning on getting another in a different color.

Really nice base/mid layer

Great base/mid layer that kept me warm on a chilly run but didn't get too hot once I was several miles in. Extremely comfortable and solid construction per usual with Patagonia. This should be a solid base layer to add into the mix under my ski shell. The olive color is not my favorite, but that's subjective and opinions may vary.

Should be retired and replaced

Received this in exchange for a review. I wanted to like this. It seems well produced with good materials but they cut corners and ruined the product. The first failure is the lack of main pockets. I hate chest pockets. I am not putting my phone in a spot where it can smack me in the chest. The women's version has the same design and imagine how the women's version ends up with whatever is in the pocket pressed against one's chest The pockets feel like a corner cut to save on material over a real thought out decision. The second failure is the big one, the side from bottom up to the sleeves uses a different material with an inferior insulation. It's designed to stretch and vent but the material only covers 50% of the area with insulation. The photos nor description tells that the venting comes with less warmth, a major oversight. The stretching works. My oldest kid who's a medium tried it on the medium and it fit very loose. My wife tried it on, she's wears an XL in mens, and it fit tight. Reviewing the chart he's a medium for waist but on a kids size for the rest. That explains why it fits so baggy, it's sized big in most ways. In his size the sleeves are way too long. My adult sleeve length is 26-27" and this one an adult medium is 33". I compared to a competitor's product sizing and it's the waist. Patagonia making the waists so small relative to the cut is the problem. It's also heavy for such a lightweight garment. A medium is 260grams. You can find competing products in a larger size that are as warm and weight less. One star lost for the bad heat management One star for the pockets One star for the sizing and weight

Great jacket for staying warm while you're active!

Honestly... one of my favorite active jackets I've ver owned. I love to run outside but living in Utah can make that hard about 1/3rd of the year. Generally you struggle to find a good mix of warmth, protection, breathability, etc. This pullover has been that for me. It's definitely not a windbreaker but assuming it's not blowing like crazy I've never had a jacket that keeps me warm without pooling up the sweat at the same time. It fits snug but I wouldn't say it runs small, really comfortable and relatively long. I've warn it on quite a few outdoor runs as well as a few trips to the slopes and it's been easy to clean and hasn't held in any of the sweat smell after the wash.

From the Trail to the Gym to the Happy Hour

The Patagonia R1 Pullover is a most-versatile addition to any active man’s wardrobe. The pullover is made of a soft waffle weave that keeps warmth in and dries quickly, while also being light weight. Patagonia has made thoughtful choices in designing non-chafing seams, and the piece has a great fit both in the torso length and in the sleeves. With it’s clever chest pocket which perfectly fits for a card wallet or phone, this pullover has you covered and comfortable on the trail, at the gym, or even hoping to a happy hour after hours. The half-zip design makes the piece easy to pull on and off without mussing your hair or knocking earbuds out, and the fabric is comfortable to wear directly or with an undershirt. The only downside to this fabric is it does curl up/roll a bit at the end of the sleeves and base of the torso, which I’m not used to seeing from this brand in their fleece pullovers.

Almost perfect

I love the pullover. It has a good fit. I'm 6 feet and 170lbs, the large fits me almost perfectly. My only knock on this product is that it doesn't have thumb holes built into the sleeves. The sleeves are a little long in general and can easily be pulled over ones hands, but I think a thumb hole would have made this perfect for those days when its chilly but not quite glove weather. I think if it had these, it would have been perfect. I have worn this on 3 hour long runs so far when its been high 30's, low 40's and love this above a light base layer. The collar is low profile and does not chafe my neck at all during the runs. They say there is an anti-odor technology with this but I haven't really noticed any difference as to how it smells after. Since it's over a base layer, I don't think I've truly tested it with sweat. I washed this twice, but hung dry it. So far no pilling.

Back To The Future With A Very Nice Upgrade

Frankly, I had really gotten tired of the old R1 pullovers. They fit tight and were just a little too "warm" for the type of use to which I subjected them. Was browsing around my local REI and tried on the new edition. Immediately liked the slightly lighter, airier fabric and appreciated it wasn't skin tight. Was trying to decide which color to take and kept coming back to the Sage/Buckhorn Green. Then I look at the Reviews below and it seems a lot of other people made the same choice. I'll get a Black one in the Fall. Highly recommend you re-visit this model and very glad I did.

Great Lightweight Pullover

This R1 pullover is perfect for early morning walks and jogs. Excited to take this pullover on my next backpacking trip to stay warm during the mornings and nights while not adding too much extra weight. And who doesn’t live the fun green color

Not the Patagonia of old

After owning for a month and washing twice it is starting to pill on the front and side panels. My old pullover (had for over two years) wore out at the elbows and still looked new. Patagonia went cheap on this one!
