I have now camped twice with this tent. I wanted a larger tent that I could set up by myself and that I could stand up inside, and I was impressed when I saw the Aerospeed 4 on display at REI. The innovative design, the near vertical walls, the abundant space, and the high quality of the stitching and overall manufacturing quality were readily apparent. I watched a lengthy YouTube video from Snowy’s, a NZ based retailer (where Zempire is based), and was impressed by so many thoughtful design and mfg choices in this tent. I was cautious when I saw some pump issues referenced in prior reviews, but I had no issues with the pump. I note that the Zempire high pressure pump and its gauge looks like a traditional upright bike pump, but it functions a bit differently, with the gauge only reading the true pressure when it is being pumped and pushing air thru the one way fill valve. Once I climbed the brief learning curve, set up and take down became pretty straightforward and much quicker than the first time I set up the tent. Ventilation is great, with two sizable windows on the sides that can be opened and closed from the inside, a clever window within the mesh on the front door panel, and tons of mesh on the ceiling for airflow. The back door panel is also opaque mesh, but unfortunately doesn’t have the same window feature as the front door. The fly is attached (although it can be detached) and therefore goes up along with the rest of the tent during set up. I had rain for about an hour one time, and the tent seemed watertight. I think using the guy lines is smart given the more vertical profile this tent has, but that’s easy given the quality reflective lines that are pre-attached (with quality tensioners too). One last feature - this tent looks unique and is innovative. I had several people tell me it was “cool looking”. Normally I wouldn’t care much about design or aesthetics for something as prosaic as a tent, but it reinforced my positive feelings about this purchase.
I gave this tent a poor rating on a previous review because the pump failed on our second set up. REI gave me a replacement pump and I just returned from a 7 day bear hunt in the Colorado backcountry. We had sunny days, wind, and lots of rain. I have to change my rating because this tent worked amazingly well. It was a joy to use and I am very happy with its performance. After using it on an actual trip I highly recommend it. I am still a little worried about the pump longevity but the tent is awesome.
used it for a 4 day music festival.. was the ideal home base.. easy to set up, super roomy & cozy, sturdy & dry. Breakdown and pack up wasn’t too bad. Takes some space and strategy but I’m sure it will get easier the more we use this. Not sure why people are giving it negative reviews. It’s a fantastic tent!
I bought it on July 24th, 2024 at REI in San Carlos. Tent itself is good, however, second time pumping it up at home, the pump that is included in the set failed in the middle of it, so before the tent was fully pumped up. Unfortunate, as we liked the tent itself. So we returned it. We were glad we tried this out before our actual trip.
Great idea, hoped it would work like the company videos showed. Set it up once on my lawn and the pump slipped a few times but we got the tent set up. We decided to set it up again the next day and the pump would not pump any air at all. The plunger would go up and down without pumping any air or developing any pressure. Glad we were not in the Colorado back country where we are going in two days. We would have been sleeping without a tent. Back to REI we go. Don't know if I will get a replacement tent of this type or not since I can't afford to be in the backcountry with such an unreliable product.
In the back of the manual it says "This tent is suitable for light to moderate weather. This tent is not suitable for Use alone above the snowline or in severe winds" and also "This tent is not designed to withstand severe storm conditions. During a sever storm it is recommended that this tent be taken down". I'm sorry, but I need a tent that can withstand a high altitude rocky mountain thunderstorm in the middle of the night. Always be prepared. I didn't even set it up. I'm sure it's nice, but not for me.
I put together the pump and followed the directions. I could not pump up the tent. I tried for 45 minutes. It should be a simple process. As I laid it out it is to small for my needs. this is 2 man tent not a 4 man tent. there is no way 4 men can fit into this tent comfortably. the only thing I can think is the valve must be malfunctioning. I did not see any leaks or tears.
I have a ten man version of this tent that I have for the family. But for me and the dog, is a too much of a palace! So, after considering all the options, I decided to go with the 4 man Aerospeed tent. It not only has the connector to the Aerobase canopy, the eyebrow poles and door fit under the opening for the Aerobase. I am 5’6” and 215. The Aerospeed 4 is tall enough I can stand straight without any issues save ducking under the fan I attach to the centerline. I use a full size air mattress (24” tall) because Neville ( ‘His Majesty’ ) refuses to sleep on his bed if dad is not with us and he manages to take up far more room that his little 6” legs would indicate he should. All that being said, the mattress fits in the corner of the tent at just the right height to access the ladder pockets easily with room left over for a table by the bed, a portable AC unit at the base of the bed and good storage space for battery banks and bags. I am able to store the ice chest, dry food storage, and camp gear in the back vestibule. We even had enough room left over to put a camp chair one day when it rained. So, this tent would work for a family of four with sleeping pads and bags with no issues with room in the vestibule for packs. The quality of the tent is excellent. It is most definitely waterproof. We had severe thunderstorms and high winds and the tent stood firm. It did not buckle under the onslaught of the weather. I was concerned a bit about ventilation but the side windows, the mesh window in the front and the breathable fabric for the back opening along with the mesh ceiling kept air flowing through the night so the ac was not necessary. On the rainy nights, I zipped up the windows partially so that air could still move through, but still allowed the tent to stay dry. I did have the tent staked down at the four corners and all the guy lines deployed. With the coverage provided by the awning and the canopy, I did not have to close the front vestibule during the rain. It did take about 10 minutes to set the tent up by myself from rolling it out to having all the guy lines all staked in. I have used the air pump to air up the tent, but the Zempire automatic air pump is much easier and allows me to do other chores while the air supports are filling. So, great tent! Plenty of room for 3-4 people. Sturdy and rain proof! Easy to set up and Neville approved!
Will take this over a roof rack tent any day! i love the sleek modern design, shape, quality, set up process, and how everything packs into a carry on duffel! highly satisfied with the camping experience because of this tent and now addicted to camping!
I had high hopes for this tent. Thought it would be an easy one person setup based on YouTube videos. I was wrong! It looks easy to do for sure. Pump it up then go inside and help it stand up. The reality of it though, is that it doesn't standup as easily as those YouTube videos make out to be. It tends to cave in one side and collapse on the other. I've tried pegging it in, and not pegging it in. Doesn't matter. Maybe with two people it will be much easier. I actually have the Zempire EVO TM V2 tent, but wanted something smaller. The much larger EVO TM V2 is way easier to setup. That tent is extremely easy to setup solo and is very fast. The Aerospeed air tubes are cross hatched compared with the EVO tent's air tubes which are just arches, and I think that is the reason. The EVO tent will basically standup on it's own. Oh, I did manage to get Aerospeed tent up and it's a nice size once it's up. Just took way too long and was very cumbersome. You do have to use most of the guide ropes to ensure the shape of the tent whereas the EVO TM V2 doesn't need them to maintain its shape. Both front and rear support bars also need to be used. This tent was bought brand new, and one of the two side guidelines was missing. There are supposed to be six preinstalled guidelines, one on each corner tube and one on each side. I checked the pack to see if it came off in shipping and it wasn't there. Not a huge deal, but disappointing for a brand new tent. I will most likely be returning this tent. No issue with the pump like another reviewer had. Giving it two stars because maybe with two people it will be an easy setup. I wish REI still sold the Zempire EV TS tent. That would be the one to buy (smaller version of the EVO TM V2).
