very good helmet, but runs small
I tried on extensively both the Vantage and the Nexus. Ended up with the Vantage because the Nexus has so much tight padding around the ears it would badly hurt my earlobes after about 30 mins. Compared to the Nexus: - runs small… I am a M but for the nexus I had to go with a L which fits perfectly - doesn’t have anti microbial lining like the Nexus and the lining is insanely thin especially on the forehead area. If you can swap it out with the lining of a Nexus then it’s perfect (I ordered one from Smith directly) - has slightly less Koroid than the Nexus but it’s really not a big deal - ventilation is top notch - fit for my head is also top notch - doesn’t have the magnetic step of the Nexus but for me not a dealbreaker Please note this is the same identical Vantage you find on REI website (and stores) it’s just discounted and marked as outlet because of its specific color. I was able to snag it at a 26% off (because outlet) plus an additional 20% off (Fall promo by REI) and turned out an amazing deal for this helmet!! Highly recommended. If you like me were uncertain between this and the Nexus model, I hope this review helped :)
Good fit, love the vents
I was due for a new helmet this season, and I tried on a Gyro helmet, but for some reason Smith helmets just fit my head better. My last helmet was a Smith, so I shouldn't be surprised I ended up with another one. It's a great fit, light and comfortable, and I love the different vent settings. Keeps me warm but never too hot. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the "visor lip" on the front, but I don't mind it. Solid helmet, solid price!
