Runs small, weird tread

This boot runs small. I'm typically a 6.5 in my other three pairs of Danners, but I had to get a 7 for these. They are very waterproof. I used these hiking around the Scottish Highlands in the winter and had no issues. I don't love the tread. I don't know if I'm clumsy or these don't grip well, but I've fallen twice. Once on loose rocks and once on a little icy patch. Could have been my fault, but my other Danners haven't given me trouble. I'm retiring these from serious hiking and going to something else. They are very comfortable and seem to be durable.
