I have the 2019 version of the Hornet 2P as well as the footprint. Short review: This fits the tent the way it is supposed to and is a simple way to get a correctly sized footprint (yes, it is supposed to be smaller than the floor of the tent) with no more hassle than waiting in line at the checkout counter. Long review: In addition to the above statement, the footprint weighs more than other options like cutting your own Tyvek or Polypro. But those options require effort on your part. The weight savings can be significant (about 2 oz versus the 6.3 ounces of this product - note I don't include the footprint stuff sack because it's just extra weight; see side-note below), but you have to buy the materials, then measure and cut them to fit. After that effort, your DIY footprint doesn't attach to the tent like this one does; without additional labor (cutting or attaching strips and grommets), your DIY footprint is free to move around under your tent (or for you to mis-align the tent when putting it on top of the footprint). I've made my own Tyvek footprints for other tents, and while they are a fun project and weigh very little, if you are looking for a quick, easy footprint solution, this is a great way to go. Bottom Line: This product weighs more than other options, but is an off-the-shelf, walk-out-of-the-store-and-use-it-immediately footprint. Side note: I leave my footprint attached to the head of the tent, and place the rain fly on top of everything. Then fold the whole pile (sometimes thirds, sometimes fourths, depending on my mood), so the footprint folds with the tent, then roll the tent from the foot towards to the head. This leaves me with one rolled up bundle that fits in the tent's stuff sack just fine. When it is time to set up the tent, I roll it out and the footprint is already correctly placed under the tent, with only minor adjustments to be made at the foot of the tent when staking that end out.

Wroks fine. Too heavy

Snarky review of a piece of nylon ahead - fair trigger warning.... A footprint on a 2lb tent should not be 25% of the tent's weight (6.9 oz). I am sure it is possible for a mass-market tent company to design an effective lightweight footprint. Cottage companies figured out the effectiveness of Tyvek and Polycro years ago. So, this does do what it is supposed to do - but not without a significant weight penalty. Which, that begs the question why someone would bother to buy an ultralight tent if they *must* use a footprint with it. The answer is: you don't, despite what marketing might tell you. There are few scenarios in which you actually need this. Pitching on bare granite, pitching on abrasive sandstone benches. Makeshift sites that are not durable. That sort of thing. It's nice that they make it - but I figure it could be as light as 2 oz and still get the job done. It's overbuilt to the point of offending my gear loadout's sensibilities. Now I want to take a moment to address the issues other reviewers have had. I camp the backcountry 80-100 nights per year. But I knew this from night #1: A footprint is *supposed* to be smaller than the tent bathtub floor. Not larger. Not the same size. That is how they work - a footprint which is larger than your tent will allow rainwater to come in and pool under your tent. A footprint which is slightly smaller will hide underneath the part that is receiving precipitation, leaving it drier than it otherwise would be. There. Now you know why all these supposedly experienced backpackers are complaining about their tent floors soaking through on their brand spanking new Hornet that I'm tired of reading about. Next, I'd like to address the rocket surgery that is attaching two plastic clips to your tent. The footprint has clips that look like a C. The tent has plastic clips that loop like an O. When you look at them side by side, the inclination to attach them together comes naturally - no surgery required. The C fits over the O. Kind of like how the two prongs of a plug fit into the two holes of an outlet; bet you didn't need instructions for that. Brilliant.

great accessory but…

It does its job, it’s great extra protection for my hornet, just not thrilled that it’s at this price point and an accessory to an otherwise great tent. It does pack up nice into my tent when wrapping up, but if you’re counting ounces, this is gonna hurt. I would argue it’s definitely going to be helpful in the longevity of my tent floor depending on the surface I need to pitch on. As for ease of use, just watch Nemo’s quick YouTube tutorial. It’s extremely easy to set up, definitely recommend setting up the tent and not staking until you’ve laid this out. Also, it is absolutely sized appropriately, despite some people’s interpretation of how it’s supposed to be

Perfect fit

I'm truly baffled by the negative comments re the footprint fit and installation. The footprint is properly about an inch shy all around the tent. This keeps rain from coming between footprint and tent. It is easy to install/attach. The simplest way is after the tent is up but not yet staked. The only possibly confusing thing is that the square plastic u shaped attachment rings come with ring opening hidden inside the loop. You must rotate the ring so opening is available outside. Great product!

Good Footprint

Despite the learning curve of attachment points, this product is well thought out. 6.9 oz isn't exactly ultra lite but it will protect the tent floor from pin holes or worse. Size keeps the weight down and the water out. Mesh stuff sack opening could be a fraction larger but still useful. Overall Hornet 2 is a great solo tent for anyone looking to lighten their load with the luxury of free standing and imo the foot print is a necessary accessory...

Nemo Hornet 2P is wonderfully light - too bad.....

I have to make a return trip to the store! Picked this great new tent up over the weekend at REI because my current tent is way to heavy for a long Alaska backpacking trip. I set it up for the first time in my living room just now, and found that easy enough to do (used a trekking pole to stabilize the narrow end since I could not use stakes inside). Disappointing to find that the footprint was not included. I did ask for help in the store (purchased $2K camping gear and was clear that I needed assistance) and this essential accessory was never mentioned. Now I have to go back...since it's under $50 they won't ship for free to my home.

Fits perfectly, under the tent so as to not collect water, strong, looks like it will last. Connections are intuitive (not sure why other reviewers had issues) minus one star for price, waay too expensive for a piece of nylon.

Light, Easy to install, perfect size

Not sure why there are some reviews about the attachment points and size being too small. This footprint is perfect. Attached great to the tent, super light, great quality and provided great protection after daily use on a long trip. Also used this to double as a ground cloth when sleeping in shelters or just on the ground.

works great

I used it for the first time this past weekend. No problems at all. The only thing is it would be much easier to figure out how to connect it to the tent if they would be a small piece of paper in the pouch about the "C" clamps and how they connect. The other end is obvious. Otherwise no problems.
