Great pack, Great features, A touch small
Overall, it's a solid pack. Great colors, fabric, and features. The straps are comfortable and you would be hard pressed to overload it. The side pouches fit a 1L typical sized water bottle. The internal compartments work well. The only issue for me is the size. It feels a bit smaller than I would prefer. The measurements are correct, just make sure you know the size of the bag as you are ordering it. It's just small enough that I would struggle to use it for anything other than a weekend airline trip or a casual day-pack around the city. Your millage may vary!
Perfect rucksack for bopping around town
This backpack is great! I've been using it while bopping around town on my bike, and it's just the right size for a small grocery run or a quick trip to the beach. The compression straps on the sides and the top keep everything nice and small when the pack is empty, but they open up and provide some extra space if you need to squeeze a loaf of bread and some bananas in there, or a bunch of leaf bags from the hardware store, or a towel and snacks for the beach. The big buckles and zippers are easy to operate, and they're even a hit with my toddler who loves practicing her zipper and buckle skills with them. 10/10, would recommend for anyone looking for a rucksack like this.
Good for bopping around town
I have been using this bag regularly for several weeks and think it is great for using around town. The two external zipper pockets are useful for storing keys or a small wallet, and the inner compartment is roomy enough to fit a computer/tablet, sweatshirt, water bottle, and a few other small items. I would consider using this bag for hiking, but I prefer a hip belt to avoid putting pressure on my shoulders, and also found that the water bottle holders on the side are too narrow for my nalgene water bottles. The materials feel very durable, and I am looking forward to getting several years of use!
Cute casual carrier, not a technical pack
I love the fun colors this backpack comes in. It definitely looks more "tech pack" in the photos and much more "padded casual" in person. The straps do sit a little close at my neck, which is OK for shorter trips with a nalgene and a layer, but not ideal for a long hike with any weightier items in it. There isn't much compression/expansion gotten (or needed) via those side straps, they kind of seem superfluous. The main compartment fits 4 six-packs, and it sits snugly along my back even at that load. You can't get anything besides the narrowest water bottle in the side pouches, they are quite tight. Overall, not wowed by any of the features, but it's cute and good for carrying your laptop to the coffeeshop.
Turn heads on the trail!
Bold and bright colors will turn heads on the trail or moving commute. This 20 liter capacity, multipurpose pack will be useful for a day hike on a local trail as well as taking your laptop and lunch to work everyday (laptop sleeve keeps your electronics secure). This small and light pack has room for the essentials, that will be secure with the roll top and buckles. This pack has two pockets for plenty of storage of small items or snacks. Two water bottle pockets on the sides will carry your 32 oz bottles. Well paddled shoulder straps allow for all day comfort. I’m very happy with pack for day trips, commuting, and travel!
Lightweight versatile bag
Great versatile backpack. Used it predominantly for commuting on my bike. Lightweight and comfortable and easily fits my 15in laptop in the sleeve. Looks great and got a lot of comments on it. Also worked well as a daypack, although doesn't have the straps across the front to stabilize it, so not quite as comfortable as some more dedicated hiking backpacks. Would be tough to find a more versatile bag that looks as good, though, so if I had to pick 1 pack, this would be it.
Good Pack, just not for me
The Topo Designs Rover Pack is a good backpack for casual use, but is not for me. I like the bright colors and they definitely stand out in the design. However, I do not prefer a top load pack as a casual/daily backpack and would prefer a standard pack with more defined storage spaces. The laptop sleeve holds a surface laptop with room to spare, but it goes to the bottom of the bag so be careful if setting down your bag hard. There is not much padding on the bottom to protect it. There are 3 main pockets with the large drawstring open main storage, zippered front pocket, and zippered lid pocket. Ample space for a 20L bag. The zippers and drawstring worked as expected. The storage areas are large with no additional separation except for laptop storage (main compartment) and keyring holder (top lid). The two water bottle pockets fit a coffee mug great and hold tight with built in elastic compression. They are not coming out unless you are pulling them out which is nice. They are probably to tight to fit the larger 32 oz water bottles. The straps are padded for roaming around town, but wouldn't take for a long day hike. The compression straps are fine, but not really needed with the straps to close the top lid and the compression in the water bottle holders. Overall it is a good pack for casual outing/around town if you prefer a top load bag. Good quality material and simplistic design with fun bright colors.
Great Stylish, Well-Made, Multi-Purpose Bag
I've had the opportunity to use this bag 4 times over the last two weeks from bike commuting to work, to a 9-mile day hike, and using as a normal back pack. The pros: the pack is very stylish - I love the blue, red, and khaki colors. The size is perfect for cycling since it's not too deep and very streamlined, but has plenty of room to hold my laptop, a change of clothes, snacks and two separate pockets for smaller items. In my limited use, it appears to be well made with high quality materials. My favorite feature is the water bottle holders - they have an elastic band that expands to allow different sizes as well as cinch straps to hold the bottles securely. The Cons: I really wish this had a chest strap to hold the shoulder straps more securely. This would be very useful when using when cycling. The pack was very comfortable for about the first 5 miles of my day hike, but a chest strap would have been appreciated for the last few miles.
Great bag, no regrets
Love love love this bag. I got the grey / purple / blue one, and I have brought it with me on trips, into work, or even just going to a friends house. Plenty of pockets and methods to organize things, it fits my laptop pretty well, and I get tons of compliments on it. Maybe the only annoying thing is that the water bottle pocket is a bit tight, and if I already have the bag full of stuff, it's hard to get my bottle in. But definitely not a deal breaker!
Like it more the longer I own it
I got this bag intending for it to be an all rounder that I can use traveling, hiking, and day to day. However, I was not expecting it to excel at all these tasks! This bag is a perfect airplane personal item. The large bucket compartment gives you lots of packing freedom, and the front straps lengthen so you can close and compress the top no matter how full the pack is. Most importantly, its rectangular shape allows it to easily slide under a plane seat even if packed to the brim. This bag really surprised me on a recent climbing trip to Red Rock canyon. The numerous straps on the outside of the pack let me clip on additional gear and a water pouch. I was also able to roll up my thick puffer and secure it under the main front closure straps during the approach hike. The bag’s material also did not absorb dirt and stayed clean the whole trip. Lastly, the styling and colors are nice enough for the city, and the laptop compartment adds some versatility to an otherwise outdoor-worthy pack. Some things about the pack that might bother you: the side water bottle holders are very narrow, and are hard to use when the pack is stuffed full. also, the laptop compartment lacks padding on the bottom, so you can bump your laptop if you set the bag down hard. The pack also lacks sternum straps even though there is a spot to attach them - they must be purchased separately on topo’s website.
