Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Compact and comfortable, perfect for travel
Lighweight, comfortable, and versitile, as it can serve as a light coat or inside layer for a heavier coat. The zippers are easy to use and very sturdy so far (only used a few times), and the side zipper pockets are deep enough for my hands and a phone, gloves, hat, etc. The hood is very effective for rain/snow as it covers slightly beyond my forehead. I like the openned of the waist area, as I do not like tight clothing around my midsection; however, there is an inside drawcord that can be use to sinch the waist for a snug fit if desired. I really appreciate that the materials are recylced Bluesign approved, one of my primary motivators when seeking new clothing. This is my new favorite travel coat for it compact and versitile features.
A perfect lightweight winter coat, when layered
This is a great fall coat, or winter coat when layered! I wore it while volunteering at the New York Marathon last weekend for 7 straight hours outside and I never felt too hot or too cold! I started volunteering at 7:30am when it was 41 degrees, and when I left at 2:30pm it was 52 degrees. I felt great the whole time wearing a sweater under the coat. I did size up to a medium, knowing that I’d likely want to wear a sweater underneath for maximum layering in winter! If you are a person who gets hot when moving, even in winter, this is a great coat for you. Not too heavy!
Light and comfortable jacket.
I really like the fabric of this jacket, it feels very soft and is incredibly light. Unlike other jackets, it doesn't make much noise when walking. I’m normally a size M, but I usually go for an L in jackets since the chest area tends to feel tight. For this one, I got an M, and it fit perfectly. The only downside for me is that I don’t think it’s fully waterproof...it's more water-resistant. Living in the PNW, I’ve worn it on wet walks and hikes. It holds up well in light drizzles, but it seems to get cold quickly. I still need to test it in heavy rain to see how it performs.
Perfect puffer jacket for winter hikes/camping.
Lightweight jacket, semi-packable for backpacking. Warm for the weight, it works as a winter jacket at least in my area. When backpacking or camping I've paired this with merino long sleeve shirt underneath, and a sweatshirt and I expect this will suffice even in the deep winter months in northern PA, although it's been pretty mild winter so far. I like the color, the pictures are accurate, and the sizing is fine. I got a medium, I'm 5'3" and 130-140 lbs.
Great for an around-town jacket, not the mountains
After wearing the jacket a few times, I decided, for me anyway, that it is better for an around-town jacket rather than one I would take hiking. It is too bulky to stick into my pack and probably not warm enough to justify the bulk. The pictures in this review were taken while the temps were about 50-degrees with a slight breeze and I was comfortable with just a lightweight REI long-sleeved ¼ zip shirt underneath. The jacket appears well-made and has a very large pockets which I think is great on an about-town coat as it held my phone and my wallet without any struggle to get them in. The hood is roomy and comfortable around the face without obscuring my vision or squeezing in on my glasses. The sizing seems weird though. I ordered size Small based on the size chart chest measurements. It fit great through the upper back and chest and the sleeves were a good length, but it just seems too full around the middle – kind of formless. I think an XS would be too tight through the upper back and not allow freedom of movement in my arms. Maybe I’m one of those in-between-size gals. Though I probably won’t wear it as a hiking jacket, the price point and features might make it perfect for some, especially for more urban hikes rather than in the mountains. I’ll keep it as one of my town jackets.
Colors & quality are great; runs comically large
I love the iron oxide/sunfade clay color contrasted with the blue zipper details. Product is high quality and very cozy. Would be an ideal winter coat, but too heavy for packing during a day hike or backpack--more suited for around town or activities like downhill skiing. I know REI sizing typically runs larger than most so I often choose XS; however, S also works for me especially so I can have multiple layers underneath. Unfortunately, this size small was gigantic--more like a women's large. I could wear it over multiple layers, thick sweatshirt, and another down coat. For me, the sizing was very impractical. Even if the size was appropriate, this is not really a "woman's" fit. It is shapeless and makes one look like a blob so I don't think the XS would be much better. Based on the small size, XS likely is more like a medium... Ultimately, colors and quality were fine but at least 2-3 sizes larger than a typical small. In the end, coat went to a good home at a coat drive and surely it will keep someone warm!
Great jacket!
At first I wasn't sure about the color, but now I love it! This jacket isn't bulky, fits well, is warm, and is wind, and water resistant. The sleeves are long enough for me, as is the body length, both of which are a plus. Highly recommend.
Solid rain protection without the high price
There’s nothing I love more than a good rain jacket - and this one is in heavy rotation for me. I usually gravitate towards the men’s versions since women’s are almost always fitted and narrow, but the Trailmade is not like that. For sizing reference, I have a 40D bust, and the XL actually fits without pulling across the front or dragging the zipper down when I move around - a huge plus! The first real test was wearing it while walking around on Halloween in decent rain, and it kept me completely dry. There was also no condensation on the inside, which is a major plus, and not something that usually happens with a completely waterproof jacket. There are two drawbacks, and the reasons why it’s not 5 stars across the board for me. The arms are on the smaller side for the size, so while a long sleeve shirt was fine, it doesn't allow for layering with a sweater or something thicker if you're hoping for full range of motion. Also, there is no option for tightening the hood. While I didn’t have an Issue with it falling down in front of my eyes, the wind will still easily blow it off. That said, it’s still functional for most situations. For the price point, it delivers solid protection and comfort without the hefty price tag, and can easily compete with the premium brands.
Cozy but stains easily
It's a cozy jacket but I had to agree with another reviewer that it stains so easily. It seems to be grease or hair/body product stains from around my face/neck as well as my hands (from applying lotion maybe? I don't even know! My hands aren't particularly greasy!). On the one hand I want to keep it because it's cozy, lightweight, and the material feels soft rather than scratchy to my texture-sensitive touch, but it feels a little embarrassing to wear unless I've just recently washed it. Overall - if you want to buy the jacket, maybe go for the black to hide stains, even though the discounted orange is a great price. If REI reads this and has any tips for cleaning the stains, I would greatly appreciate it!
For cool - not cold - weather
This jacket looks and feels nice, and it's lightweight and not bulky. I love the color. However, it's not as warm as I had expected - it's comfortable down to 50 degrees, 40 degrees if I'm being active. It's very much a puffy hoodie, not a winter jacket (in New York anyway). But it's good at being a puffy hoodie! It also doesn't have interior or chest pockets unfortunately. But overall a nice jacket to wear under a raincoat or on a brisk day.
