Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

I received the Women’s size medium REI Trailmade Pull-On Pants in the Iron Oxide Color to try out. I was not too enthused about the color by the photographs, but turns out that I really like the deep, earthy, red dirt kind of look they actually have in person. They are a little short for me (5”9”) as a winter pant unless I was wearing taller boots. I have about a 33” inseam and the pants fall to about 2” above my ankle bone. Besides the length, the fit is very comfortable and roomy. Six nice deep packets that are big enough to fit a cellphone in any of them. I like the extra little loop sewn into the waistband for clipping on extra gear. It has a toggled drawstring at the waist which I find very useful to keep my pants up when I overweight the pockets. The fabric is thin and breathable, but feels durable. Snow and dirt just brushed off. I have only used them so far in the winter for walking our dog and a little snow play. A base layer is definitely needed in winter, but I think these would make fabulous summer hiking and general wear pants. I washed them in cool water and tumble dried with moderate heat and they came out looking like new.
Sadly, these pants arrived in Nov in Seattle, and it was way to cold to try on actually hiking. The fit was fine, I'm generally a size small, and the small fit decent in wide and length. I will say, the hips/waist region was a little odd on me. It gave me an upside muffin top, or something like tapered parachute pants vibes. Personally, I think I prefer non cuffs on the bottom of my pants when hiking, because otherwise all the dirt and leaves end up in my shoes. When climbing, the stretch cuffs are great! They won't ride up. I will say, I wore them into the gym and around and they are quite comfy and stretchy. The front pockets are great for keeping small items in - chapstick, maybe a snack. I wouldn't do keys or your cell phone as those move around a bit and when you're walking, and especially if you're climbing, whacking those on a hold is not fun.
These pants are a welcome addition to my hiking and athleisure wardrobe! It was somewhat of a gamble to order a medium; though I consider my body type to be quite "average" (5'7" and 160 pounds), I usually have to wear size large in many brands. I was pleasantly surprised that these pants fit true to their sizing chart. The medium fit me well around the waist. For my preference, they are a little too high-waisted and a little too short, though I think that's the intended style. The pants are quite thin, which makes me question durability (though no problems in 3 weeks of casual wear). However, they are perfect for moderate temperature hikes and walks. The range of motion is good, and they allow for easy movement. I appreciate the many pockets, and I also love the color offerings! I am enjoying the Iron Oxide, and also like the Jasper Green option. I haven't had any problems with shrinkage or color fading with washing on cool and tumble drying on low. These pants make me curious to try more of REI's Trailmade line.
These are great casual pants for walking the dog or running errands! While they are super comfortable and light, they are quite short, definitely ankle length... possibly nearing capri length for taller folks. I'm not sure how I feel about hiking in them for that reason, since I don't like my legs exposed when I hike and would need to wear tall socks. The one odd thing about them is that even after washing several times and air drying, the fabric is super staticky. Might just be because it's winter in a dry climate right now, but it's noticeable compared to everything else I own. Overall these are a pretty versatile summer weight pant!
These pull-on pants are light-weight and well-cut. The fabric seems like a more-wearable ripstop nylon. There are multiple pockets, including some cargo pockets. The upper pockets are lined with netting, which feels like a breakage risk. The pants fit very well, but might run small. (I wear a 14 and ordered an XL, which fit me just right.) The pants are a little staticky but a good weight for walking in cool (but not cold) weather.
I love last year's Trailmade Pants, so I was curious how these would compare. Material: They're both made with 94% nylon and 6% spandex, so the material feels the same. It's lightweight and smooth. I've taken the old pants on plenty of long hikes and they're comfortable all day. I haven't hiked in these yet (it's getting chilly!), but I expect them to feel the same in the leg. Pockets: The old pants have one zippered pocket on the side. These don't have any zippered pockets. I like that the front pockets of the pull-on pants aren't lined with mesh. It'll keep my phone from getting as sweaty. Fit: The pull-on pants have an elastic waistband, while the original Trailmade pants have a drawstring to tie at the waist. I wear a 12 in those and L in these, and both fit well (with or without leggings underneath for warmth). The hips are a bit baggy on the pull-on pants. Overall, these pants seem just as capable for hiking, but they don't scream "hiking pant" quite as loudly as the original ones. If you want something that can go from town to trail, these are a good option, but I'd recommend trying them on in store because the colors don't quite match what's online.
The REI Women's Trailmade Pull-on Pants are well made for easy-to-difficult hiking, or other adventures in nature. The design doesn't interfere with movement: there is ample room to bend at both the hips and knees, making scrambling over rocky terrain easy to accomplish. The water resistant and lightweight fabric defends from wet dogs or creek crossing, and the easy on, easy off pants make hiking or backpacking trips more effortless. While the spacious front pockets (on the pant legs) initially seemed odd, they don't impede arm motions when filled. Finally, the Iron Oxide color is reminiscent of great fall days spent in the woods.
Buy these pants! They are super comfortable, they hold up great on the trail, and (bonus!) they make my toosh look fantastic. I’ve worn these hiking, kayaking, lounging around the house, with hiking boots, with Tevas, with Blundstones. Dress them up a little bit or completely run them through the mud with outdoor activities. They’re fantastic. And the colors are great (I have iron oxide and the green pairs and get compliments on both whenever I wear them). Have worn these just about daily for a six week trip to Patagonia with frequent washing. They dry fast and have good wind and water protection. Love all the pockets too. Hopefully these last me a long time.
Love the fit and look of these! Wore for about 4 hours and had no issues with chafing or anything- love the material as it’s thin but durable and can easily be worn in multiple seasons. I wore the other day with thermals underneath on a snowy hike and was amazingly warm. Also found that they are waterproof! Great plus. Only thing I wish was improved with these pants: I found that the tie above the waist doesn’t like to stay put. I don’t tie it tight or anything, but it just slips loose so I have to fold the top over. Not a big problem at all! Overall great pants and I love them:) side note- I got the tall because I have long legs. Perfect length!
Wowowowow! I love these pants SO MUCH! I'm always a fan of the elastic waistband for hiking pants and was drawn to these initially for the color. The fit is SO GOOD and I love how lightweight they are. I wore these for a backpacking trip and it was great having my legs covered without them feeling restrictive or too hot! They are seriously so comfy and I feel like I wear these almost daily now hahaha.
