For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

La Sportiva Bushidos have been my go-to light trail shoes for some time. When I needed to replace an old pair of light hikers, I was pleasantly surprised to find these boots. Great fit for my narrow heels, with room up front for my toes to move. Lacing adjusts well when tighter fit is needed. Sticky Vibram soles provide good traction on a variety of terrain, including snow, and strike that happy medium between too stiff and too flexible. Uppers are water-resistant, not waterproof and do breathe well in 55-70 degree temps. Very little break-in required other than dinking around with adjusting laces.
I'm so disappointed. The boots are really nice. They go up just over the ankle, are nice looking and feel comfortable right away, but there is insufficient arch support. Just walking around my house my foot rolls inward with each step. That would not be good on a hike so I'm returning them to try something else. I'm also concerned about the thin Vibram sole on them. It is just thick enough for the lugs, but maybe only 2mm more than that. Darn! I was so excited to be getting my first pair of La Sportiva, but they don't work for me.
These boots fit well, are lightweight, and feel secure. I have worn La Sportiva trail running shoes for thru-hiking and was impressed with how long the tread lasted. The toe box is large. Recommendations say to size half size up, however I still have "wiggle room" or big sock room in my typical size and the half size up way too big even with thick socks.
I was looking for a new pair of hiking boots and the REI sales rep recommended these to me. I am so glad she did. These are so comfortable. There is much more room in the toe area than my previous hiking boots which has helped eliminate a constant toe rub in had with the previous pair. I have found the traction and waterproof features to be high quality. I am very happy with this purchase.
I usually hike in Altra Lone Peaks and was looking for more robust footwear for cold weather/winter hiking. These were the only boots at REI that were comfortable for me. The toe box is roomy, but the boot is nice and secure around the heel and the midsole so my feet don't slip around. I've worn them on a few short hikes and walks so far and they've been very comfortable.
These are THE BEST!! I've had a pair of La Sportiva hiking shoes for a couple of years and loved them so thought I'd like their boots, but they are even better than I expected. They took literally zero breaking in and are so comfortable. The soles are super grippy and they are fully waterproof as promised. I've only had them for a month or so, but I've put probably 50ish miles on them and am absolutely obsessed. Oh, and they are so light weight!!
Perfect fit out of the box. Wore them yesterday on a hike that was really rocky and we had to cross the creek about 2 dozen times (round trip). I’ve been wearing La Sportiva hiking shoes for years but my SO suggested going back to boots bc I have a torn ligament in my left foot and also my left ankle has the funny way of twisting itself. I’m so glad I got these boots. My feet sweep when I hike and even after 7 miles of up and down in steep rocky terrain, my feet stayed happy and comfy and I didn’t twist my ankle like I usually end up doing. I’m going to wear these over my shoes going forward—they’re more comfortable and totally waterproof—all those creoencrossing proved it!
I’ve worn these a few times now on different hikes and they are very comfortable! There was no break in required and they are perfect for wider feet. No blisters either! I had to replace a pair of Oboz that I only had for less than 2 years. I hope these last me longer, but so far so good.
Finally found a comfortable pair of hiking boots! These are great, right out the box you dont need to break them in. They are soft and flexible. I have narrow feet with a crazy bunion, and these boots dont hurt at all.
Hard to find gear that lives up to its waterproof claims. I have worn these on a number of day hikes, and they have kept my feet dry through downpours and stream crossings. The support is right for me as well - more support than a trail runner, while still providing flexibility. Originally I tried the Lowa Renegades, but found them too rigid. Have not tested them on a multi-day trip with a heavy pack, but have tested them on 6+ miles and have no issues. My feet are narrow, these fit me well and have a roomy toebox. May not be for wide feet. Only complaint is the traction on wet wood could be better.
