Disappointed

I feel I have to submit a review on this pair that I returned. I have come to love speedgoats and this was to be my fourth pair. I was disappointed that my third pair arrived with shorter shoelaces than the pair that I was replacing (speedgoat 5's). I made it work by using my then, current pair's laces. So for an upcoming backpacking trip on the AT, I ordered this pair of speedgoat 6's. Didn't even try them on because when I reached inside to remove the packaging, I could feel the end of the footbed's insert! It was the wrong size for the shoe and at least an inch and a half too short. So disappointed. Do better, HOKA!

Great shoes. Just don’t use them too much

The toe started peeling away within two months. I’ve taken them back to REI and was told that I have put too many miles on the shoes within those two months for any kind of exchange to take place and recommended. I call Hoka. I called Hoka and I have to pay for shipping to send them back For them to determine whether or not it is a manufacture issue, but if I have used them too much in that two month period, they will not consider that a warranty issue. So, you spend $180 on a pair of shoes that you should be able to use , But just not too much. This is the last pair of Hoka I will ever purchase.

Needs breaking in and full cushion sock

There is potential here. I have no hiked a little over a dozen miles in these and even took them for a walk on pavement (yes i learned my lesson). They were terribly uncomfortable on pavement, and way better on the trail. I recommend a full cushion sock since the back side where the shoe meets the stretch fabric is hard, it may be soon to tell but i don't foresee that changing. I have only hiked in these with a midweight sock. Outside of that they are decent hiking shoes for me, they do what i need them to do, especially in wet conditions. They are a bit tight around the middle of the shoe, but for nuance's sake, that is the widest part of my foot. I'm keeping a pair for muddy hikes and returning the second pair i bought.

Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke!

I’ve been a huge fan of Hoka Speedgoats—both the trail runners and the mid hiking boots—until now. To Hoka: why mess with something that already works? The Speedgoat 6 feels completely different from my old pair; I noticed it the second I put them on. Still, I wanted to give them a shot. I really wanted to love them, but nope! They hurt my feet within the first few miles. I thought, maybe they just need to break in (though my old ones didn’t). Plus, the lack of support is a huge letdown. Sorry, Hoka, but you really disappoint. I expected a lot more for a $180 pair of shoes.

Not the same shoes.

This review is not about REI. But more so for Hoka. They completely changed this shoe. The speed goat 5 mid’s are my favorite shoe… this new version speed goat 6 is nothing like the 5!!!! My feet hurt even running a single mile in them. Do not get these if you love the 5’s because they are so many differences.

nice feel & traction, useless neoprene cuff, HOT

I'd heard that the 5 was better than the 6, but these were on sale so I gave them a try since I like the hoka feel and wanted waterproof. These seem to run a little large but not wide, except the neoprene cuff, which seems useless. It cannot be tightened so there is a large gap all the way around. It won't keep stuff out and provides no support. This is ok for me as I really just wanted a waterproof hoka shoe. Otherwise it is a nice stable, cushioned shoe with good traction. It is, however, the hottest shoe I have ever worn and I generally wear waterproof mid-bootsor shoes.

My daughter loves them!

Bought these for my daughter who we have struggled to find good hiking shoes/boots for. She has flat feet and experienced so much pain even on small walks. She said these are so comfortable and makes a huge difference in her hiking.

HOKA Speedgoat GTX Mid Hiker Boots

I am so disappointed in these Speedgoat mid GYX hikers! In the past, I have always purchased the speedgoat mid hikers and LOVED them! I felt they were very supportive to my ankles on rough or uneven trails. However, HOKA has absolutely ruined these boots by replacing the thick, cushioned high ankle area with a thin band of neoprene. They have really cheapened these boots. I returned these boots and will not be purchasing them again!

Incredibly comfortable, supportive, light weight

Due to a foot injury and required to wear hiking boots with a non-bending sole. Usually, that means a lot of extra weight in the boot. Not with these Hokas! Stiff sole, ankle support but lightweight! Highly recommend!
