LACE THE TOP HOOKS
SEAL OUT OF WATER
These boots are super cute and warm. I normally wear a 6 but sized up to a 6.5 for a thicker sock. The only issue with this boot is the upper hooks. For the love of everything holy. Under no circumstance. Do not leave the upper hooks unlaced. They catch on the other clips (of opposite shoe) and leave you locked in like someone has tied your shoelaces together. I fell twice today in the snow walking out of the gym. First fall knocked the wind out of me. I didn’t know what had happened. I got up and made it another ten feet before falling again in front of a car that had stopped to let me pass. It was then that I realized my feet were stuck together and I was left on the frozen ground again flopping like a seal or some sort of wretched mermaid trying to get the boots unhooked. I ate it twice in ten feet. Let that sink in. My knee is swollen and my hip is bruised. The embarrassment is unimaginable. Again, do not attempt to walk in these boots without having all of the laces up!! I hate that I still love them. The 3 stars are for me. It was a fail. Epic fail.

Do not purchase! Very dangerous and poor design

Do not purchase these shoes because of the VERY POOR DESIGN- I fell so hard on concrete and now I'm injured. The hooks on the sides of the boots latched on together (or the laces grabbed on the hook I'm not sure) when I momentarily got my legs close together because I paused walking to put on my gloves. And then all of a sudden it was like a cowboy lassoed my legs together and I went down so, so hard. I can't believe this is on the market. This needs to be recalled asap to prevent other people from getting hurt! Now my left hand is very sprained. My right hand and right knee is cut up and bruised. And I might have a little bruise on my right cheek

Changed My mind about TNF Boots

Product is poorly designed and made. The only reason why I kept it is because they are tall. Not 15 minutes after wife put these on she was tripping because of the shoelace holder on the inside top was catching the other shoelace holder. Then it came off. Completely ruined my day and now these boots. Cheaply made it was Glued on! Completely unacceptable TNF!

Unsafe Lacing System, You’re Going to Fall

Top hooks are a tripping hazard as they get caught on the laces of the other boot as you bring your back foot forward. I bought these for my 11yr old daughter and she was tripped before she could get out the front door, even with them laced all the way up. After the getting tripped a three times, once each time she wore them, I grabbed a pair of pliers and smashed the hooks closed and bent them inward as not to stick out. And when they trip you up, your feet are locked up, there’s no stutter step to get your feet out, you’re going to fall. So far, she has worn them twice since i altered them without tripping. In my opinion, these boots should be recalled by NorthFace or voluntarily pulled from the shelves by REI. They are flat out unsafe, laced all the way up or not. We are buying another winter boot for her because I still do not trust them. No matter what boot we get next, they will not have this style of lacing system.

Great, other than lace hook

These boots are great! Waterproof, warm, and durable. I walk my dog several miles per day in these. The only reason these are getting 4 instead of 5 stars is the lace hook on the inside of the boot. It's slightly too far forward, so if your legs brush by each other, the lace from the opposite boot gets stuck together. If you have any forward momentum (I.e. walking quickly) and you will fall face first. I was able to clamp them all the way down with pliers.

Buy it! Worth every penny!

Excellent! I weared it to Rocky Mountain National Park during winter( the end of Dec), it was snowing there, deep snow, slippery slope, but this shoes keep you warm and give me power to walk to 9900 ft Dream Lake! For your safety, when you walk on a slope more than 50 degree, please also have some extra equipment like snow spikes. It can better help you walk in the snow mountain. But if the degree is less than 45, this shoes are totally fine.

Buyer beware!! The hooks at the top are terrible !!

While these boots are warm and comfortable, the hooks at the top catch and it makes you trip. I just wiped out because of this. I've chosen them with pliers and rendered them unusable. I read the other reviews and thought "it can't be that bad! North face makes great products". I was so wrong. All winter they were catching I kept closing them and they kept catching and reopening. I just fell and destroyed my knees! I HATE them.

Problem with lace hook, which can trip wearer

There's a lot to like about these boots - warm, comfortable, however the hook at the top where the laces go through should be changed. One boot hooks the lace from the other boot, and down one goes. Twice. And I have a bruised palm and knee as the out come. I will try and and pinch the hooks on the inside of the legs closed. If that doesn'twork then back they go.

Loved them until they tripped me and I fell HARD

I read other reviews about the top clasps getting caught on each other and I should have listened. It seems like a small thing but it really is dangerous.
