Sturdy Bottle, Keeps Cold
This little bottle keeps water cold for several hours, especially compared to the plastic version of the Podium bottle. The lid/cap system are the same as the plastic version, however this version the cap includes a straw to allow air to enter the bottle so you can drink freely and quickly. The cap features an on/off slide closure as well as a rubberized comfort nozzle so you don’t bump your lip or chip a tooth. Compared to the plastic Podium bottle, this bottle does not sweat like i have experienced with the plastic squeeze insulated Podium bottle. Lastly, the bottle and cap are both dishwasher safe, which is a huge plus. The only downside is that 18oz empties rather quickly and I’ve had to unscrew the cap to fully empty the bottle.
Promising new bottle from CamelBak
I tend to go through bottles quickly but this one is nice enough not to lose or leave somewhere accidently. It's a bit heavier than normal which I appreciate because it stays put on both my treadmill and indoor cycle bottle clip. it's got an interior straw feature that keeps you from having to either suck it when running (which I find hard to do) or squirt too much over you. It is heavy because of the metal exterior but I think it's like the double-walled design that will keep my drinks colder this summer. Overall, this is an upgrade from a regular bottle with the ability to keep the water hot/cool, and the locking feature to me it's worth it!
Great hiking/sport bottle.
This bottle is a great size for day use and short hikes and rides. The insulating features work great. I was curious about using it during freezing temperatures to keep my water flowing and it did better then expected. I took it on a few hour hike in below-freezing temps and kept it on the outside pocket of my pack. I was able to drink without any ice formation in the spout. While the steel outside was pretty cold, the water inside stayed at a consistent temp. I will note that the packaging says to avoid freezing the bottle, but in my experience for a few hours it performed well and the cold did not affect any of the plastic or silicone parts. As far using this as a bike bottle, I have mixed feelings. The bottle actually fits perfectly in the cage and is easy to insert and remove. It feels a little strange to not be able to squeeze it but water is not hard to get out. If you tip it upside down it will flow out freely when the valve is open. The difficult part is opening and closing the valve with one hand while riding. The valve lock on the lid is not easy to get all the way to the open or locked position with only one hand so I have usually ended up leaving the valve left open. This hasn't been a problem so far and there hasn't been an issue with spilling but the point of having an insulated water bottle is to keep the hot air out of the bottle. Other than the difficulty with the lock/unlock feature it has been effective. I think that due to the inability to close the valve and the additional weight of the steel, I will probably only use it on bike rides when it is either below freezing or exceptionally hot.
Decent bottle that's well made
The bottle is a nice addition for bikers. It's small size may not be appropriate for water, but an electrolyte mix would be a more efficient use of volume. The bottle is very well made, strong and durable steel finish. The open close function is very simple to use, especially when biking and can be used with one hand. It's also very convenient that it is dishwasher safe. It cannot be used for hot liquids, which reduces its versatility.
Great bottle that will last!
A bottle that will last, this well made water bottle is perfect for on and off the bike. After years of bottle breaking down over time it's nice to know this one will stick around. I use this bottle mostly for water as cleaning sticky drinks from the air release straw between every use would be essential. Would be 5 straws except like many bottles it doesn't allow you to drink the entire contents off the bottle.
Doesn’t Bounce
Double walled stainless bottles weigh more than plastic bottles. You’ll notice them walking out and popping out on bumps. Can be noisy on bumps too. I’ve been using insulated CamelBak Eddy bottles in Ciussi cages for a few years. Squeezed the cages in to hold them tighter, makes the bottles harder to get out, but its better than riding next to your bottle rolling down the street, which is kind of dangerous and annoying. This is a great bottle if Camelbak makes a cage that can hold it properly. Until then keep those cages tight.
A Necessity in High Temperatures
I arrived at choosing a stainless steel bottle after growing tired of insulated plastic options not holding true to their description. Insulated plastic water bottles don't hold up to the Florida heat. All I've explored have a synthetic aftertaste leading to the belief that some of those chemicals are being ingested. CamelBak's Podium has a form factor that looks good on my bike, and feels strong, as though it will hold up through many adventures. I have the raw steel option which I was afraid would show excessive scratching, but that has not been the case. With this week reaching above 90° F, going this route is proving to have been a great idea.
Keeps cold liquids cold
The Camelbak Podium Steel VSS Insulated Water Bottle does an excellent job of keeping cold liquids cold. I used this product on several indoor bike rides and the ice I started with was still intact after a 60+ minute ride. I did run into a few issues, where at first I didn't realize you need to keep the device in "open" status to drink and was unable to open it with just one hand while biking. The bottle also has no "give" and so it is hard to get it in/out of the cage on my women's bike (not a lot of room between the top tube and down tube).
Ditch the Bladder
Been looking to ditch the water bladder and this fits the bill. Loved it as soon as I drank from it. Easy to open and close the valve, great flow rate, and way easier to wash. Much better than sipping from a tube.
Good construction, but extra weight
Construction seems solid and advertised with "double-wall vacuum insulation" to keep drinks cold for 14 hours. Biggest question though is this worth the increased weight advertised at 11 ounces. Other insulated bike bottles are more than half this weight (4.4 ounces) with a 20oz bottle size (2 additional ounces). I presume the durability of this bottle would be better. Other than that, I'm not sure if there are any benefits over non-steel constructed bottles. Also, this is the smallest bottle size made by CamelBak.
