Excellent once installed on mountain bike
We also wanted this setup installed on our mountain bikes and found sufficient spacer thicknesses (21+ mm) on two of our four bikes. Installation was relatively painless, only requiring us to take off the stem with handlebars still attached to remove the spacers and replace them with the Thule adapter. No concerns completing this step, it just took a few allen keys. We did come across a problem that we hadn’t seen written elsewhere, so perhaps it is localized to only a few stems. The stem extruded too far, not allowing the little semi-circle piece with red on it to get past the stem and into the adapter. This was not an issue on our second bike. To solve this, I used a bench grinder to take a few millimetres of metal off of the stem so that the little semi-circle piece could get by it. This worked and the product could then be used as intended. The product is really great once installed. I’m 6’2” on an XL bike and I hardly need to change my leg positioning. My 5’2” wife has to reach around the unit a bit, but can get by without much complaint. It takes a bit of time to get used to the top-heavy nature of the bike with your child on it, and the mental thought that you 100% don’t want to drop your bike! The only other thing we noticed is that the chest straps tend to slide down our 1.5 year old child’s shoulders and towards her elbows, no matter how tight we make them. It feels that there should be a chest strap to prevent this. Perhaps it will be less of an issue as she gets bigger.
It DOES fit MTBs, even with short stems, but...
I was nervous to get this seat given the conflicting reviews on here regarding fit on modern MTBs. For reference, I have a 2020 trail bike with a standard 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 tapered steerer tube and I run a 32mm length stem. It DOES fit just fine, but... 1) Stem spacers need to be removed and the adapter mounts directly to the steerer tube (i.e. not over top of the spacers as one commenter seems to have tried) 2) Thule's instructions say you need minimum 21mm of steerer tube below your stem. This is only true if you have a stem longer than about 70mm. Any shorter, and the lower clamp bolts on your stem will contact the adapter, preventing you from lowering your stem all the way down to the adapter. (see photos) In this case, you will need spacers between the adapter and your stem, and thus you will need more than the minimum 21mm under your stem Thule recommends. 3) There are a few things you can do to lower your stem as much as possible: A) You can remove the cap from the front of the adapter that has the Thule logo. This will buy you 2mm. B) You can install the adapter in the "A" position (less reclined). This buys you another 1-2mm by lower the front of the adapter. C) You could cut holes in the plastic adapter to accommodate your stem clamp bolts (I haven't done this, and I'm sure Thule wouldn't recommend it, but it looks like if you did that, it wouldn't interfere with any of the metal mounting hardware; that plastic part at the front seems mainly cosmetic) On my bike, by doing these two things (3A & B), I got it down to just 6mm of spacers between the adapter and my stem, but it raised my stem by about 6mm from where I would normally have it. This ended with my stem about 4mm above the end of my steerer tube, so I only just barely made it. (see photos) Anyway, it is a great seat and I'm looking forward to lots of rides with my little one. Bottom line though, make sure you have enough steerer tube above your headset to accommodate the height of the adapter (about 20mm) and the stack height of your stem as measured from the lowest point of the handlebar clamp bolts to the top of the steerer tube clamp.
Barely works for my YT Decoy. But love it
This thing barely works for my YT decoy. The stem needs a good amount of spacers on the head tube to not hit the frame so if you have a slammed stem you’re out of luck. I got it mounted to my bike, but there is no way humanly possible to use the foot holders. The legs need to be inserted into the base of the seat outboard an inch or so for them to clear my crown on my fox38. Thinking about 3d printing an adapter because Thule won’t, which is a bummer. Daughters legs just dangle for now. Install issues aside. This seat is so freaking good. If you can fenangle it enough to get it to work you will be in for a treat because it’s instant smiles from the moment you get your kid on it In the photos the foot holders aren’t pushed all the way in because they can’t be. They hit the fork crown.
Easy to install, fun to ride with!
I received it this week, installed it today and it was EASY. There's only 3 parts to assemble, plus the mounting on the bike itself. I ride with my knees a bit more opened than usual, of course it doesn't ride the same as when you're alone with no bike seat, but it's a great way to bring on the kid and it feels safe when thoroughly installed. In the pictures I screenshoted a page from the Instruction Book, as I think it should be visible information on the description of the seat, not only in the manual, because people that have mountain bikes or others that get this seat are likely to be frustrated with the product because it won't fit. But I don't think this seat deserve less than 5* because of this, it's just people that didn't look more into the product before buying it. (The instruction book is available under the instruction tab). Overall, great product, it's pretty, looks comfortable and safe. Pardon my english.
Useless, cannot install
Thanks to the ridiculous tab on the front of the seat, it cannot be installed on an REI Co-Op Cty 1.1, like the most standard fitness bike available, because the tab cannot get past the stem bolts regardless of spacers in between. I even bought a spare bracket so we could move the seat between our two Cty 1.1 bikes, which arrived dirty and used. Clearly these are return-worthy items.
Struggling to use this seat
Ordered the Yepp Nexxt Mini to use with our daughter on my bike & my wife’s. The mount that comes with it appears not to work, as we both have mountain bikes and struggle to accommodate the necessary 22mm to install the mount. I have tried to order an after market adapter, but that appears to be for another seat or generation… We are getting frustrated. We want to mount the seat on the bikes we have.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences on the Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini. I understand your frustration with the bike seat not being able to fit to your particular bike frame. Unfortunately, some bikes are just not compatible with a front-mounted bike seat due to the size and shape of the frame. From the photo, it looks like you were attempting to install the Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini to a full-suspension mountain bike. These bikes generally have a very aggressive geometry that is not compatible with many after-market accessories, and are designed for a kind of riding inadvisable with a child bike seat attached. The Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi was redesigned from the original Thule Yepp Mini to fit a wider range of bike frames without the need for an adapter. However, the Thule Ahead Stem adapter still has many of the same measurement requirements as the Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini to assure safe fitment. All necessary measurements for safe mounting to compatible bikes can be found in the installation manual for each Thule child bike seat.
Daughter loves it!
Bought this for my hubbys birthday so he could take our daughter biking with him! She was 6 month old and now 10 months old she loved it then and loves it now! I feel safe putting her in the seat and she looks comfortable in it! Very functional for the bike rider as well doesn’t change the ride to much just having a little one in front! Highly recommend
Fits well with some accommodations, 100% smiles
I love that the Nexxt Mini allows me to get out and ride with my son. He appears to love the seat and is in a near-constant state of grinning while we ride, and I love having him right in front of me and being able to speak into his ear while we ride. Install was pretty easy, although it requires a taller stack height than you might have - it was a tight squeeze for me on a Kona Unit. I'll also note that a dropper post makes it much more enjoyable and safer to ride with the seat in front of you, and for an MTB is probably near-mandatory. Lastly, getting my son into and out of the seat is pretty straightforward, no awkward contortions and he is very secure once in. He loves holding onto his "handlebars".
So Fun
Very well made and super easy to use. I set it up on my bike all by myself. I have so much fun riding around town with my 17 month baby. Great Mommy and Baby memories I will always remember! He loves pointing at birds and Cars and smiles and laughs! I'm very happy with my purchase. He gets so excited to go on bike rides so it's totally worth it! I also purchased an additional bracket so my husband can ride with him too and this was a very good idea and it's really easy switching from my bike to his. I can't wait for warmer weather here in Canada so I can take him daily!
Saved my baby in an accident
I bought this for my 9 month old baby girl. We strapped her in securely and put her helmet on and we were so excited to go on our first bike ride. We were only about 200 feet from our driveway, crossing a street and someone blew through a stop sign and hit the bike with our baby girl on it. She didn't have a scratch or bump on her!! This seat paired with a helmet did everything it was supposed to do to keep her safe. I am so glad I went with a reputable brand and spent the money on quality. You never know what can happen and I am so relived this bike seat kept her safe.
