Great shoes with good traction
My kid loves these shoes. They're the number one pick for romping around outside in the woods. They have a great sole that helps with traction on slippery rocks, leaves, and roots. They're supportive enough for a hike on a trail in the woods, yet light enough for running around in the yard chasing the other kids around. We've been through multiple sizes of this shoe, through multiple kids, and they keep on trucking. Easy enough for a 2 year old to put on all by themselves, too. No ties or scrunches or cinches to deal with, just velcro. The tongue does tend to slip down sometimes, but that's easy enough to fix. I can't recommend these shoes enough.
Happy Kiddo
Our almost 2 year old has enjoyed these shoes this winter. They have excellent grip and are light enough for him to keep moving in our wet and sometimes frozen terrain here in the northwest. As expected he managed to submerge them in water, including above the ankle, and I was pleased to find his feet mostly dry and the shoes easy to dry out. Overall size appears to be a bit narrow, though sizing is tough at this age. We have these one size larger than he normally wears and they fit great.
Comfortable Colorful Show with Good Tread
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These sneakers were a big hit with my daughter. They are very well made and only require a Velcro closure which is always a huge help with kids. The soles have two different tread materials so the gripping power is good for active feet. We unfortunately have only had them during a snowy/slushy spell so my daughter has decided to only wear them at home to not get them 'yucky'. So it's a good sign she'll enjoy them when it dries out.
Built Toddle Tough
These shoes have definitely lived up to the quality I expect from a company like Merrell, and have quickly became the shoe of choice for a very opinionated two year old boy. We ordered a size 8 and they fit perfectly. The heel cup makes shoes slightly more difficult for our toddler to put them on himself, but it makes for a secure fit and helps ensure they stay put throughout the day. One of the unexpected benefits of having such an aggressive tread is that it makes it much easier to clean the mud, dirt, and play dough that accumulates on the bottom of his shoes. All in all a great shoe for a budding adventurer.
Great shoes for kiddo
My daughter loves these shoes. She has worn them to the beach twice now and they are holding up great. They did not retain a lot of sand and dried quickley when they did get wet. She wore them on a hike after we finished at the beach last weekend and she had plenty of traction to get up some slick hills. The sizing was perfect and they look great!! We will definitely get her another pair when she out grows these!!
Great hiking shoe for preschoolers!
Pros: Snug fit, good tread, great colors! Cons: Can be tricky for preschoolers to put on Overall: I really like these shoes and so does my 4-year old. I love that they are blue and could even pass them down to my son, unlike most hiking shoes that are overly gendered in color. I like that they have a lace/velcro combo that allows them to fit more snugly than just Velcro shoes we’ve had; however, I think this may be what makes it trickier for my 4-year old daughter to put on. We have worn them mostly on green and blue rated trails in the front range and the tread seems to work well.
Quality shoe for toddlers
I like the Moab Speed 2 for toddlers because they are a mini version of the Merrell shoes I’ve worn many times and they don’t skimp on the quality. The uppers are durable and easy to clean. The soles are grippy, and allowed my daughter to scale the playground on a rainy day. The elastic fixed laces keep the shoe firmly in place while the Velcro strap is child friendly. The inclusion of blues and pinks make them a match for many outfits. When my daughter outgrows the shoes I have no doubt there will be plenty of wear left for her brother!
Fits and more importantly stays on.
The baby, as babies are, is rough on shoes. She has a few pairs. The stride rites are a favorite but those aren’t allegedly water proof. While I’ve not had an opportunity to test them in proper outside wet conditions they turn water under the sink. The more important thing since they’re a sort of little boot is they’re pretty light. She has some others that are less so. They also fit snugly. They stay on for good. No slipping here. All that seems to be a result of the tiny elastics near the toe of the foot and then a pretty typical velcro strap up top. We’ve not worn them long enough to judge durability well yet, but there’s no evidence of wear after several all day outings.
Mom Loved, Toddler Hated, High Quality Shoe
Very High Quality Shoe, toddler HATED them. Classic example of a shoe that mom loved and kid hated. The shoes are super high quality and fit well in mom's opinion, but in toddler's opinion they were too stiff and she pretty much refused to wear them. To be fair we are in a phase were all clothes are basically offensive to said toddler, but these shoes were particularly bad. I think in general a lot of the shoes she has are a softer build and these because they are more like a traditional adult hiking shoe are pretty stiff. I even tried to get her to believe they were the shoes of a certain orange heeler dog character given the coloring and NO! The waterproof factor is super nice, but they are low so keep that in mind because jumpy toddlers are still going to end up with wet socks in a puddle! They are pretty easy to rise off though because of this which I really appreciated. If you are a family who is big on outdoors and has a toddler who doesn't hate clothes, I'd say these shoes would be a great investment. If you have a toddler like mine who can be SUPER picky about clothes then I would buy with more caution, especially if you are not in high need of an sturdy outdoor shoe.
Look good and sturdy
Love these for my 21month old (bought size 8). She runs a lot and these have held up in the park and through hikes. These are not heavy and have washed them a few times already and they become as good as new.
