Great shoes for little hikers
The shoes are very bright blue and my son absolutely loved them since it’s his favorite color. He wore them for a while on a hike and decided he needed to put the water proof remark to the test despite me asking him to please stay out of the water. He didn’t fully submerge them but what he did, his feet were still dry. Even when they were wet on the dock he didn’t slip or anything so the grip is good. He had no complaints about pinching or uncomfortable. Did say his feet hurt a bit but he also says that at the end of any hike and he’s tired. If they did hurt him I imagine it was just the breaking in period, but overall he loves them and wears them when we go out hiking still so they must not hurt that bad if at all!
We love these!
These shoes have been fantastic for my daughter this winter season. The tread is strong and grippy, and they keep her feet nice and dry. She is also very picky about how shoes fit, so i love the adjustable strap that helps me keep them from being too tight. We also LOVE the colors as they match so much if her clothes!
Excellent waterproof boots for little feet
Our daughter loves these boots. They have now become synonymous with our adventures over the past couple of weeks. She has taken multiple opportunities to really test their waterproof capabilities with creeks, puddles, and even the edge of our lake. We were skepticle about how high water could reach before getting into the shoe, but the entire toe box can be easily submerged without issue. The closure at the ankle is secure, but very easy to get on and off. It blends in well with other shoes and is much more secure than a simple slide design used by rain or snow boots. Previously, she has just used regular running shoes for our hikes, but the increased traction and stability for her has been very noticeable. She keeps seeking out muddy hills to climb and conquer. I don't think we will be able to go back to regular shoes for her future hikes.
Great little boot for small humans
My daughter has been wearing these hiking boots daily since they arrived. I was a little worried they were lace up boots, but was pleasantly surprised that the laces are elastic, so these are essentially Velcro shoes, and my almost 6 yr old only occasionally needs help with slipping her heel in. They have great, sturdy tread yet are still flexible in the sole. She's worn them daily to school where they have a muddy play yard and they've worked great. She seems to be comfortable in them on the sidewalk, playground/play structures, sand, turf. I think the fact that they are her go-to shoes now speaks for itself - she really likes them and wouldn't wear them if they weren't comfy. Tricky to get actual feedback from her, but when asked what she likes about them, she said she likes that her friends like them too. :) Overall, we would certainly plan to get her another pair of these once she out grows them. My only long term concern is how well the elastic laces will hold up. Otherwise they are a great little boot for small humans!
Light, burly, waterproof, picky 5yr old approved
The 5 yr olds says they "felt a little weird at first, but then got comfy". This was in the span of about 20 minutes, so I'd venture to say that they have a pretty quick break-in period (if any). They're surpringly light for how burly they feel, and being Merrells I can assume they will hold up just as well as other Merrell kicks: incredibly well for the abuse my kid puts them through. The waterproof-ness is a huge bonus for playing outside in mucky conditions and keeping little feet dry. This isn't a negative but a heads up - they're about as thick as tennis shoes, so aren't insulated and wouldn't be the best for super-cold weather. Elastic laces with a velcro strap at the top secure them snugly, and if experience tells me anything the elastic won't stretch out any time soon. This also makes getting them on and off easy for a solo rugrat. The varied density of the treads on the soles (visible in the pics) helps with traction, and their lighter construction makes them pretty flexible. The kiddo usually isn't a fan of hightops, but she's made an exception for these.
Ready for adventure
Great adventure shoes for your littles. Wore these on a rainy day, stomping in puddles, and came out of it with dry socks. My little guy loved them and had no complaints. They offer great support, and don’t sacrifice comfort.
Comfortable and lightweight
These shoes are comfortable and lightweightl. However, putting them on can be a bit challenging due to the non-untieable shoelaces. On the bright side, the velcro strap makes securing them a breeze. My kid loves the bright colors.
Sturdy boots for little ones
We receive the blue color. They had good padding on the inside. Were woken during the recent rain storm and held up pretty well. I felt they ran a little big. But there was not blistering on my little one. The Velcro strap was useful in making the top of the boot more snug as my little one’s foot was a bit loose. Overall these boots have worked out great. No issues while on one of our local trails. Great grip. Good boots for little ones.
My son wants to wear these everyday!
Kids grown out of shoes so quickly so we have tried many name brands and off brands of hiking boots throughout the years. Typically my kids only wear their hiking boots when I make them wear them and otherwise prefer sneakers. Not with these boots! My 5 year old son LOVES these boots and has been wearing them to preschool everyday since we got them. We live in the upper Midwest and we have a lot of snow and ice right now, so these boots have been a great shoe for him to wear daily; not as bulky as snow boots but still has great grip for the icy walk to and from the car. My son loves to sprint down hallways and with other boots he would trip if he tried to run in them, but these boots let him zoom around as much as he wants. They are very easy for him him to get them on and off himself and the colors are fun.
Cute but falling apart
Bought these for my 6 year old daughter for our trip to Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain. Less than a week into our trip and they started peeling on the sides. They are also advertised as wayerproof and most definitely were not. We had some hikes where portions of the trail had pockets of snow we had to hike through, and hee feet got soaked. Supremely disappointed in the quality. I returned them after our trip, which was a shame because they're one of the few "cute" hiking boots for young girls.
