Cool, cute, functional layer, my new go-to!
Big fan of this Mountain Hardware jacket! The slightly cropped cut is attractive, the water resistant performance is excellent, the hood has comfortable and wide coverage, and the sleeve length fits my long arms. The outside texture is a tad rougher than I expected, but it actually seems to help the flexible and quiet nature of the fabric. The inside is a soft mesh, can be worn directly against your skin. The zipper is easy to maneuver. This has become my go-to throw-on spring jacket - stylish and practical protection against the rain, the wind, and a slight chill.
Love this jacket!
Comfortable. Stylish. Great pockets. Hood is a plus! I’m usually a small up top, but I’m glad I went with a medium. That way I can layer as needed, plus I like the more relaxed fit. It’s easy to move around in and repels water. Obsessed w the color, too.
Perfectly lovely for spring!
This is a really cute windbreaker with a decent amount of water resistance, but overall I would consider it town-appropriate fashion clothing rather than serious outdoor gear. First off, I love the color. Mountain Hardwear definitely made some good choices this season. The cut is generous, as I ride the fine line between L and XL, and this fit very comfortably with no restrictions in the shoulder area. The sleeves are a touch shorter than I prefer, but I'm also 6' tall so that's a pretty normal complaint for me. I really like the length - it's not a short crop, but it stays nicely out of the way of my waist pack which is fantastic. The material can definitely withstand light rain, but I wouldn't trust it to keep me dry in heavier conditions. I feel similarly about the wind protection - great for a light spring breeze, but too thin to hold up to anything gustier. I feel like these are totally reasonable tradeoffs for how insanely packable it is though - this thing packed down to almost nothing, and I could fit it in my waist pack with plenty of room left for snacks and other essentials. Overall, I feel good about taking this out on a day hike if I'm certain the weather is going to hold, but it's not something that I'd pack if I were hiking to elevation or backpacking. The one feature that I absolutely cannot ignore is the pockets. Firstly, they did a really great job of providing plenty of pockets without making this jacket feel bulky or awkward. Secondly, and the thing that really blew me away, is that the side pockets are sewn up the sides to the absolute perfect height to keep a phone secure, even if you're moving around. I'm not sure why that's so rare in a jacket, but they really got it right on this one! Overall, it's a really cute jacket and a nice thing to have for nice weather.
Functional everyday jacket
Overall solid lightweight jacket. The Caspian color is phenomenal and striking. I prefer to have an interior pocket for keeping small valuable safe. Pockets are an important feature for me and unfortunately this jackets pockets didn’t quite serve me. Functionally, the jacket did its job keeping me dry when testing it in the rain. Thanks to the venting holes I never did get too warm when being out for more than 60 minutes in the rain. Easy to move in which I can appreciate having to manage multiple things when going about my days. The hood has great clearance even with a ponytail which I really appreciate. Even with a cap the jacket managed to keep the cap dry. Didn’t love the length. Wish it was a tad bit longer to come over my hips a little bit more. Definitely recommend if someone gets cold easily to considering layering as it is thin.
Great material and lots of pocket options
This jacket arrived on a rainy day so I got to test it out right away. I biked to dinner in a steady drizzle wearing this and rain pants and was pleasantly surprised with how water repellent the material is, without the feel or look of a rain jacket. No interior pockets, but the five pocket choices on the exterior front are comfortable and convenient. The jacket definitely has a cropped boxy fit, and I’m 5’9” with a long torso, so it looks cuter on a more petite frame. I really like this jacket though and plan to use it a lot for travel.
Great lightweight jacket with multiple uses
This is a simple nice lightweight jacket that can be used for the trail or just doing everyday activities when it is brisk outside. I like the light feel of the jacket, but it's still sturdy enough to repel a good amount of rain and protect from wind. Love that it is UPF 50 as I've been really conscious of the sun lately and have been trying to update my wardrobe for more sun protection. The jacket is simple but also packs in a lot of helpful features like venting holes and multiple pockets. In terms of fit, the jacket was a bit looser and shorter than I typically prefer, but it actually seemed to work with the style and allows me to do a lot of layering underneath. The dark caspian blue is deep and beautiful. Definitely recommend!
Love the jacket, but not great for the trail
I would have really like to give this jacket a 3.5 stars. First, the good. The jacket looks REALLY nice. I very much like both the cut and the color. I found myself enjoying wearing this about town, not just on the trail. The jacket is lightweight, and water-resistant without being plasticky. It also lacks the static buildup that my previously water-repellant jackets have. Now, the bad. This jacket is nowhere near as warm as others I have had, probably because the breathable fabric doesn't make as good as a windbreak. Then, there are the pockets. There are 2 external pockets on each side, slit pockets and slightly expandable flap pockets. These pockets look great, but they are poorly designed. Neither pocket securely fit my phone. The flaps on the flap pockets won't close with my phone in them. I can put the phone in the slit pockets, but it feels like it might fall out with vigorous walking. It did fall out while sitting. There is a zippered small pocket that seems like it was made for phones, but my phone barely fits. I could technically force the zipper to close with my phone in it, but it would be a hassle to put it in and out. If I left it unzipped, I was worried about the phone falling out while bending over. As much as I love the idea of running around the trail untethered to the modern world, I usually need my phone with me (and use it as a safety feature). There is no reason for a jacket designer not to make sure there is a suitable, accessible, and secure phone pocket in modern outdoor gear. It's not like I'm going to take my purse on a hike! Between the pockets and the warm issue, this jacket will probably see more use in the urban jungle than on the trail.
My favorite casual outdoor jacket maybe ever!
BEST light jacket for outdoor activities and casual wear. Wow. I truly did not anticipate loving this jacket so much..... The length is perfect without feeling short (I hate how longer jackets can impede movement. It's stylish for casual wear, but holds up hiking, biking, and rowing (so far). Plenty of zipped and non zip pockets for holding keys, snacks, phone, bandaids, etc. I almost want to buy this in a different color way.
Nice color but not a flattering fit.
I really wanted to love this jacket. Unfortunately, it's a little bit too boxy for my body shape and hits me at an unflattering angle for me to really love it. The pros: The color is gorgeous! It's lightweight. It has pockets for days. The cons: It's boxy and the pockets are really big - it makes me feel like a flyfisherman. It's not a jacket I'd wear on the regular - if they make it in a more tapered style I feel like it'd be a win.
Great lightweight jacket
Nice comfy jacket with room the layer. Love the hood and how it feels secure and not flimsy. The jacket feels lightweight but just enough to keep a bit of wind out. The length is a bit shorter, if you have a long torso you might want to pass.
