Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to Influenster & Altra for the gift of $50.00 usd cash back on these shoes in exchange of our honest opinion. We got this for my husband. He always is having a hard time picking up good walking shoes, these sneakers were surprisingly comfortable to him. It’s hard to say how long they will last as far as durability, but so far my husband thinks they are amazing. They are a little pricey, but with the incentive from Influenster & Altra they were affordable. Overall very respectable shoe and good selection of colors. His normal shoe size is 9.5 but we had to get a 10, and it fits perfectly.
“I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.” My first impressions with the Altra Men's Timp 5 Trail-Running Shoes Original Fit shoes was very favorable. They are lighter and more comfortable than my current shoe with a wide toe box. I've went from 9.5 to a size 10 and that to big because the toe box is so much bigger. Not sure yet but there seems to be far less fatigue after a run. I may have found my go to shoe. I'm taking one star off until I find out if they can stand the test of time. I'm hard on my shoes! I have not used in more that 6/10 miles on hikes, to feel how really a size 10 either work for me or get a actually smaller size also I have used them in full concrete for a Mexico City trip for about 15/20 and I did get a little fatigue in my right foot and calf.
Holy grippy kittens! Actual words to describe these shoes on a 1.2 mile 20% grade up a very rocky trail. Much more cushion than the Lone Peak boots that I love. Like the Lone Peaks, they run a tad small, so I got 12.5 instead of my normal 12. This gave comfy room in the toe box for my wide feet. Fit perfect. My only hesitation (and this is a ME problem, not a problem with the shoe) is that I overpronate and I was concerned if they had enough heel cup support. The newer Lone Peak all do have a spiffy little heel cup that treats me right The Timp (shoes and boots) do not have a heel cup and I am starting to roll in a bit. At REI I saw a pair of Olympus shoes and they have a ton of heel support and WILL be my next pair of Altras (I already own four pair). The Vibram sole (on the Timp and Olympus) is a big upgrade and I feel it will last longer than the standard Altra outsole. I'm a full 100 kilos (230 lb in freedom units) and am hard on shoes. I love the color and these are my daily kicks that let me hop on any trail at any time (the Vibram seem to hold up better on concrete/asphalt). My feet get hot and I really like the ventilation in the non waterproof in all Altra priducts. Trade off is both Timp and Olympus have more cushion so a touch more weight, but the difference is less than the few extra fries I ate at luch and I don't run marathons. (But do 10-15 mile hikes) Lastly, these are 0 drop like the way we were born. Unless you ride a horse, why they heck do you need a heel? Altra are one of the few shoes that offer many options in a zero toe drop product.

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These were the first wide-toe running shoes that I've used before, and I'm not going back. So much more comfortable than the tight toe box flavors. I've run several times a week in these, sometimes twice a day - putting many miles on them. I run around the soccer and baseball fields near my house - dirt and grass. Running on tarmac messes up my bones and joints. The grip has been great, even on wet grass. I'm sure the Vibram soles will hold up well for a long time. The shoes fit snug - no moving around and more importantly, no blisters! Throughout all my long runs, the padding has maintained its comfort and I have not experienced any feet discomfort from these shoes. I've probably put over 100 miles on these shoes so far and the construction is holding up flawlessly. No signs of fading, pulling, or ripping. The glue and stitching is all staying in place well. The coloring is ok - but I'd prefer more subtle tones - these will eventually reach the stage that all running shoes do - where they can no longer be used as running shoes due to worn out padding - and transition into "dad-shoes". I may need to do something with the bright orange parts….
The shoe is very comfortable and was able to do a 50k out of the box with no issues. Great traction and fits my foot well. Switch from the Lone Peak to the Timp for the addition cushion for long runs. The only issue is the wrap around laminate from the toe box began separating on both sides after one run. Additionally, the material above the top eyelit rubbed all the way through the material. Love the shoe but cannot afford to have it fall apart after one long run. If that didn't happen this is a 5 star shoe for me.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These hiking shoes are now my husband's go-to outdoor shoes for all activities. With an attractive and stylish design, the shoes are really well made. They are made using quality breathable material. The fit is decent. The grip that these shoes offer is simply amazing. The sole is thick enough not give me impact pain when you hit rough terrain.. They are perfect for any outdoor activity like hiking, running, walking and also for those intense workouts.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the Altra Timp 5 Trail Running Shoes. I was pleasantly surprised when I first put them on. First of all, they have great cushioning and flex. The soles have an excellent grip. I had no issues with traction on any of my runs. They are very comfortable and have good arch support. I plan on wearing these until they wear out. I highly recommend you give these a try if you haven't ever worn Altra's before. Overall, these are great shoes.
Altra has made some great improvements over the Timp 4. Durable materials, incredible base soles, a more comfortable fit. QA issues exist, we received the wrong size in the labelled box, the inner soles are molded incorrectly. The rubber base lugs are soft but they are wearing out quickly with street use. For trail use the base soles will last longer.
Okay, I finally feel like I have a good idea of these shoes after putting close to 50 miles on them. What I like: The outsole is great! Love to see it and wish that Altra would carry something similar over to their other trail shoes. Looking at you Lone Peak! The mid-sole is plush and super responsive. Feels like a proper trail shoe. I'd like to see a rock guard, but it isn't necessary on this shoe due to the stack height. Of which, isn't over the top like Hokas. I'm personally a fan of brightly colored shoes. So, they have a few and that's good enough for me. That said, what I Don't Like: Now, there isn't a ton here. However, my main issue currently is the build quality. These guys have seen dirt trails with some grass intermixed. Already I'm seeing mid-sole chunks disappear and parts of the laminated toe box de-laminate from the fabric. Note, I have tried super gluing them back together for now since I'm passed my return window. But 50 miles for this Altra? Honestly unacceptable in my opinion. The other big issue I'm having is toe box room. Weird to say, I know. It's literally Altra. That said, these shoes need an Original Fit variant. Give us the option Altra. It's not that difficult. In a wrap up, this iteration is good. However, it still has minor flaws that keep me from wanting a second pair.
