Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Separation anxiety

Just got these about a week ago and only put 5.1 miles on them on a moderate desert trail Broadway Cave Jacob’s Crosscut. The upper is already separating on the toe of the left shoe. I’m really bummed because I paid a lot for these and I was hoping they would hold up a little better. They are really comfortable and light weight.

Fix the heel slippage

I really wanted to like this shoe. Vibram, Ego Pro, flexible carbon plate - but none of that matters if the lockdown is terrible. The toebox is a little tighter than I would want, but for a race shoe, I think its fine and will loosen up a bit once broken in. But the problem is with the heel (again). No matter how tight I tie the laces and use a runners knot, even to the point where its painful and I can feel the laces digging into my foot, the heel still slips. Altra, fix this one thing and you have a great performance trail shoe on your hands. I can't believe this wasn't fixed from the original Mont Blanc. Unfortunately had to return these...

Good trail shoe

They are comfortable and for the most part a great shoe. I just need to run more miles in them to give a better review. For now, I do feel a hot spot on the arch of my right foot. I have not developed a blister, but this is a little concerning since I have never had this type of an issue with any Altria shoes I have owned. I was also surprised by the color-I thought they would be more on the red side..but they are definitely hot pink. I think I will get good use out of these shoes, but I must say that I am a little disappointed for price I paid for them. Unless they break in a little better over time, I don't think I will be purchasing another pair.

So Close To Perfection

The under foot feel of this shoe is fantastic... Foam/Carbon plate are firm enough to be stable but bouncy enough to float you along smoothly. Vibram outsole is grippy and predictable. They really shine when you pick up the pace. Mid-foot fit is great and that Altra toe box is always a welcome living space for all of my toes. The color is less coral and more hyper coral. It's bright, but in my opinion, one of the best looking trail racers on the market... that's all the good. The bad... I couldn't for the life of me get the heel to lock down and on more technical downhills I felt like my heel was all over the place. The heel fit is better than in the OG Mont Blanc, but better doesn't mean great.

Color is off and ugly

The shoes seem great, and the fit feels pretty good. I've never returned a pair of sneakers due to the color even though there have been a lot of Altra design and color arrangements I have not been behind over the years. The color is listed as the same one that came with the Mont Blanc boa which is a sort of clay. I have them on Blanc Boas and this color as it's photographed on the site and listed by name is not at all how it looks. The color is hot pink and a god-awful. I can't believe it because I've been waiting months for these shoes and they seem like they run great but I might have to send them back and just wait till another color comes out. They are just simply way too ugly and I can't wear them anywhere where there will be people. I know this sounds extreme but I'm a pretty modest guy and these are the brightest ugliest shoes I've ever seen.

They did it

I took the chance on this shoe despite mixed reviews. Firstly, the step in feel is amazing. I was worried about the lower stack height but the midsole felt cushioned and extremely comfortable. The shoe is speedy It feels legitimately fast and seems comparable to the best super trail shoes on the market. The heel is indeed low and a little loose, but a runners loop locked everything done for me. As a note, the Mont Blanc BOA worked flawlessly for me. This shoe feels much faster. It isn't super wide, but it is still anatomical, which was plenty for my large forefoot. It definitely FEELS very 0 drop.

Great carbon for long distance

started running carbon with the Vectiv, now discontinued. Been off and on with Altra over the years since Brian and Golden started the conpany. These are for real. Amazing fit and control. I run a 100 miler about once a month and 2-3 200s a year. Excited to put them through the grinder. With a recent spine injury I don’t have full control of my right calf and these provide me the extra stability I need. Thanks Bronco and the Altra team!

Color is Misleading and Very Ugly.

Don't be misled for the color on the website photos. Shoe is not red and white, but more like hot pink and white. It is very ugly and I'm returning it. Unacceptable for a shoe that is retailing for over $260. Also the shoes has a very bad chemical smell out of the box, it is quite strong and had to put them back in the box as it was giving me a bad headache. I will be returning these. Older Altra's were more durable. Not sure why brands have started selling poor quality shoes but charge more for them.

Pink and stink

Tried on after ordering online, fit was true to size I normally order, color was very pink, SMELL was horrendous!! I had to put them in the garage so as to not loose any more brain cells overnight. The sole was very flexible, much more than what I expected with a full carbon rock plate! I was hoping for a more rigid sole to protect feet from the jagged rocky trails we have here in the Arizona desert. Had to return them before even taking a run in them cuz I knew I couldn't live with the stink.

Turbo Trail Time

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took these straight out of the box for 11 miles of muddy & technical Boulder, CO trails, and they did not disappoint! As someone who put quite a few miles on the original Mont Blanc, this shoe takes the Mont Blanc name to new heights. The additional springiness from the EGO Pro & carbon plate underfoot was immediately apparent, and the upper feels much more secure & locked in from the OG Mont Blanc, especially the heel collar. Looking forward to racing & training in these plenty!!
