Quality tent for the family

Same as other reviews, great quality… the idea of a divider is very cool but it does make the sections smaller.. it would be make it so two people could lay horizontal in each divided section in their bags. Still would give it 4 stars because of this. Easy set up and the vaulted ceilings are great to see what is roaming around you at night. There is a mudroom that you can purchase to add to the entrance which is pretty massive.

Great tent but divider makes rooms too small

I got this tent when our amazing Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 finally went kaput last year. This tent definitely holds its own, but had . It's very roomy. We had tons of space, which helped since we managed to be in South Dakota during two weeks where it rained almost every day. While we're on the subject, I can definitively say that it stands up very well in wet weather; no problems at all with leaks or condensation. Could have used more pockets but it was fine. Setup was unbelievably easy. No problems with anything breaking through several put up/take down adventures. All that said, I go car camping with my 2 kids and one of the things I knew I needed was a divider. This would have made this the perfect tent, but with the divider closed rooms are too small for the cots to fit (not a problem in our previous tent), which made using the divider for separation a pain since we would have to move everything around to close it, and it obviously didn't work at night. For me this was a big deal, thus the 4 stars. If that's not a big deal to you it's a great tent. We also bought the mudroom but somewhere on the trek to the Dakotas it fell off the roof of the car and we weren't able to use it, so I can't say how well it would've held up. I'm assuming it is the same quality as the tent. However, it would have been nice if the tent already had a vestibule without having to pay another $125 for it (also would have been nice if I'd done a better job tying it down.... :'( )

High Quality, Poor Design

This is a pretty good tent but REI needs to actually try their tents before mass producing them. First, the build quality on this tent is 10/10. Everything seems to be the highest of quality. I was skeptical of the lack of a full coverage rainfly but during my first week with this tent we got a short (less than an hour) storm that dropped an inch of rain and marble sized hail, and even though the tent pad trapped a couple inches of water next to the tent side the inside remained dry. Second, the design is a 3/10. It is clear that nobody in the design process actually tried to sleep a family of 4 in this tent. With the room divider in use, the weird triangular ventilation window in the center bottom has zippers on both sides of the room divider. This made me getting up in the middle of the night to frantically close windows during an unforecasted thunderstorm a nightmare. The dimensions of this tent mean that the only way to set up air mattresses and sleeping bags are parallel to the doors. This means that you have to step over an air mattress immediately upon entering the door. This is an atrocious design. Third, setup is 5/10. The "V" and "Y" poles in the middle are super awkward and don't want to stay in the grommets during setup and is harder to reach and move into place when setting up the tent. It is manageable with a second person helping you set up. The footprint for this tent is slightly off in dimensions and is constantly slipping off the poles during setup. Fourth, REI needs to include guy lines for each of the guyout points on the tent. Also provide a stake for each of those. I seeming received a random amount of guylines and stakes. Just sell me a complete tent. I am undecided if I will keep this tent. I want to see what my other options for family camping are.
