Super warm, comfortable gloves
These are the warmest five-finger gloves that I've used. I've been using them for cross-country skiing and showshoeing in Washington's Cascade Mountains for the past few weeks. My hands run very cold, but I also like having the dexterity of a five-finger glove (versus a mitten) for taking skis on and off and other tasks. These gloves perfectly fit the bill. They are super warm but still give me great range of motion. I've been able to ski in these gloves down to 10 degrees F. For me (again, cold hands), I need to put on a liner glove when the temp is below about 20 F. That's incredible performance, since my hands are usually painfully cold with a liner glove at 20 F in any other gloves. This is the only glove that I can use well below freezing without having to resort to mittens. The grip on these gloves is good for cross-country ski poles or hiking poles while snowshoeing. No issues with poles slipping when I'm pushing hard up a hill on my skis. The construction of the whole glove seems great, and I expect they will last for a long time. The sizing on these is snug. I'm 5'10" tall with fairly large hands for my size and the large is just right. The fit is tight but just barely doable with a liner glove, but most folks probably won't need to use a liner with this glove since it's super warm. These gloves have been really comfortable for me and are good for a full day of skiing. I haven't had any issues with waterproofing; these gloves shed snow with no problem at all. I can make all the snowballs I want when I'm out snowshoeing with my kid and not have to worry about wet hands on the hike back. Last but not least, I gotta say I like the colors, too, especially the deep blue on the back of the hand. It's fun to have a warm winter glove that isn't just the same black color as most of the other gloves out there.
Warm gloves with nice features
These gloves came in for the winter and I have to say, I like them a lot. They are warm, durable, comfortable to wear, and allow for a decent grasp of trekking or ski poles. It has been hard to get out and use them much so far, as the weather has been unseasonably warm, so not much need for a warm glove on a daily basis. I've only warn them 3-4 times since getting them on early mornings where the temps dropped, we got a little snow, and I needed to clean my car off for my family. But in those times, they worked great. What I like about them: first they are really warm. My hands were roasty toasty when wearing them though I struggle with poor circulation in my extremities, in the time I was outside with these on I had no issues. The other thing that I like is the forearm bands, which help when taking the gloves off, they don't have to be shoved in a pocket or held onto. It is nice having them suspended easily on my wrist so that I can put them back on easily. The Velcro-expanding wrist band is also really comfortable and provides a good seal so that snow, moisture, or anything else doesn't ride up into the glove and only my hand. Finally, the grip is reasonable good for the nature of the glove. Of course I can get a better grip on my trekking poles with a thinner glove which allows more dexterity, but for the size of these gloves I was able to use them with my trekking poles pretty easily one afternoon during a hike. The pole handle didn't slip and it didn't feel awkward when using them at all. The reinforced palm and seams of the gloves help the grip as well as provide the glove with the ability to last, which is a definite big plus. What I dislike about them: I know I mentioned I like the forearm bands, but where they attach to the glove is a tight knot that I was unable to get undone. I don't always want to have the forearm bands attached or slipped on, so being able to easily remove them and reattach them would be nice. Another thing that was annoying, but is a common annoyance to all these types of gloves, is when you have one on and are trying to put on the second. I found myself having to bite the wrist band of the second glove to pull it only my hand as I couldn't get a tight enough grip pull them on. That was frustrating, and I used the tried and true method which I have used for years. All in all, I like these gloves and when snow finally does come, and I get get onto the slopes or out snowshoeing, these will be on my hands because I'm confident that I will be able to use them, and feel comfortable therein.
Warm and Tight!
These black diamond gloves are super warm and have some nice additions to other gloves I have used in the past. The cuff velcro keeps the gloves super tight which is nice when using for winter sports so no snow gets into the wrist, and the attached leash prevents from falling on the ground. They were super warm when using in 25 degree weather and the fit is true to measurement guide provided. First time wearing the lining inside bunched up, so be sure to hold the fingers tight with the other hand while removing the gloves. Stoked on these to be my go-to winter glove this season for skiing and snow-shoeing.
bombproof gloves ready for winter adventures
TL;DR The Black Diamond Spark Gloves are bombproof gloves ready for winter adventures. I used this glove during the last few days of skiing at Stevens Pass, a few hours from Seattle, WA, and enjoyed the warmth and dexterity the gloves provided. At first, they were a bit too warm, navigating around the base area, but once I started riding the lifts and the temperatures dropped, I was glad to have them. Despite the thick glove, I was able to adjust my ski boots, access my pack, grasp my ski poles without issues, and be comfortable during a full ski day. When I needed extra dexterity or the use of my fingertips to access my phone, I was able to use the integrated leach to keep them secured to my wrist without the fear of dropping them. The thumb even has a suede-like strip to catch a dripping nose during those key moments on a ski run. The size medium fits snuggly, even on my small hands, and wouldn’t want to wear a liner glove under them, so size appropriately based on your objectives. The fleece line insulation is great for those cold resort days, but may be too warm for any sustained uphill travel. Overall, a really solid glove in a rad color scheme (‘Henna Ink Blue’) with Black Diamond quality. Highly recommend.
Warm gloves for working on the hill.
I joined the ski patrol two years ago, and have skied for about 40 years now. We typically don't spend money on nice things for work, because they get destroyed. I have had cold hands for years, and just suffered through it. I finally sprung for a pair of your Spark gloves, and I was warm on the hill yesterday. I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be able to keep warm on the hill. They also look good as well. I will be wearing them on patrol duty until they fall apart. Thank you again for the hook up.
Need some work on the fit
I bought these gloves to give my patrol gloves a break and to use backcountry and resort skiing. I bought a medium same size as the patrol gloves. It was very difficult to get them on through the tight cuff. They would need a lot of breaking in also. They are kind of stiff. I returned the medium and bought a large. Easier to get on but now too large. I wish I could have tried them out but couldn’t get passed the tight fit. I’m sticking with the patrol gloves
Fingers still cold
Bought these gloves to keep fingers dry and warm in winter conditions. I am on a short trip in NYC with 10 degree Temps and wind chill. Using these gloves, my fingers were noticeably cold in 15 minutes. I opted to ditch using the gloves and keep my hands in my jacket pocket which worked better for warmth. Hard to believe these work in real winter conditions. I can't speak for water proof yet but not worth the money if you are trying to stay warm.
Best ski glove ever
I’ve only bought this pair because my 5 year old pair was stolen. Through probably 40+ patrol days a year and countless ski and touring days these are consistently the best moderate cold gloves I’ve ever had. The leather is durable and the insulation is perfect. It’s an excellent glove. Only con: BD gloves tend to fit a bit big for the size and it isn’t consistent across all gloves. Best to try before you order
BEST GLOVES EVER but they got stolen
I got the gloves and was super excited. I treated them with the leather treat. They smelled really good and they were looking really nice so I took them out warm for the first day when it was really really cold and they were great amazing probably the best clothes I’ve ever had super durable super soft, pretty warm, and then someone stole them when I set them down for a minuteðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Testing
My son is on snow, 4+ days a week. He’s blown through a number of other gloves that are more expensive than the spark. I wear other Black Diamond mittens that have always been durable, warm, and comfortable. I’m anticipating that these will last longer than other more expensive gloves that my son has worn. Black Diamond makes great product.
