BC or not BC, that is the question
I like this boot a lot. I'm in my 2nd season nordic after a life of resort alpine, so I am used to a high-control boot system. The boot feels secure. I like that the ankle strap has 2 points of adjustment so you can really crank it down if you like me have low-volume ankles. My use case for these is likely to be mostly ungroomed forest roads. I think I will keep a lighter boot for in-track zooming. But I'm not sure yet, since I did like the control these gave me on the descents that you can find in some tracks. I prefer exciting exploring to exciting high speeds. The snow gaiter works fantastic. My first trip on these was 5 miles up 2ft deep warm powder. I sank a lot on my narrow skis. I wore these and some cheap fleece-lined ripstop joggers and never had the slightest bit of snow intrusion. I did have to take them off at the top of the trail to tape my outer two toes for developing hotspots. The boots were very warm to put back on and did not cool off during that procedure. I think that my pair is too big. I wear 25-25.5 cm in alpine ski boots but I ordered the Outpaths based on my nominal shoe size so I got the ones that are approximately 41-42 euro size. They did work well and I had minimal heel lift and surprising control in the loose powder, but I think that the rubbing I experienced is due to ordering one size too big even though I cannot imagine buying womens size 8 shoes in any other situation--ive been in size 10 trail runners for years. So I would base your purchase off your measured-while-standing foot length in cm, not your shoe size. I expect the 40 2/3 ones to be just right Despite the rubbing on the outer toes (that again I think is my fault due to improper size, evidenced by enough room to move to cause blisters + a bit of heel lift + having to crank the laces down) the toe shape of this boot is probably as good as it gets for someone who otherwise lives in ''barefoot'' style footwear. I found it secure but not narrow and the tip is fairly rounded so you don't have a lot of void between your foot and the connection point with the ski, unlike more pointy boots.
Simply superb
To begin with they are simply gorgeous; generously insulated - my feet were warm from the start even at -15 C (I had to go up a size because of the thickness of the insulation); generous padding enhances fit (they are very, very comfortable); easy to tighten laces and a very robust quality zipper make it easy to snug them up; your feet feel a bit like they are floating in the boots on the trail but they provide great support.
Perfect combo Fit/Volume/Warmth
Absolutely love those, they are warmer than normal XC shoes, slightly roomier but remained fitted, and SOOOO comfy. True to size, nailed it.
awesome Swiss army knife boot
This boot does it all and super comfy/warm. I use it to do light backcountry skiing and skijoring. A great coaching boot also.
