Great Skins - Terrible new Tip Loop
This is my third set of BD Ascension skins; I have used them for years and loved them. However, I am extremely disappointed in the new Tip Loop system - it’s a nightmare to install. They changed the screw from a simple Philips head to a Torx screw that forces you to use the very flimsy Alen key that is completely useless. Secondly, it was a huge struggle to snap the screws after fighting to get screwed into the back clasp. Really wish they would have stayed with the old design that was much more user-friendly.
Terrible design
I have cut, installed tips and used bd skins in the past. They were great. This pair however I am beyond disappointed. Installing the tips is a nightmare. No instructional videos anywhere, tips seem too small to actually work on a 143mm ski tip. They don't sell a tip for a larger ski or have the adjustable ball baring for different size tips . The instructions are horrible. I bet they skin great if you are able to actually use them.
My favorite gear item
I love these skins! They are my ticket to the beautiful backcountry, up steep mountains sides, and to my next adventure. They are easy on and off, rugged and dependable. I have tried other skins and none of them have delivered quite like these. They were easy to trim to my ski length and I know they hold the quality of Black Diamond products. Couldn't ski what I do and enjoy the backcountry without them!

I've just got a new set of skis and these were easy to mount. It'd be great to see a video on installing/cutting these skins from BD. Maybe I've missed it. But that doesn't detract from the product. BD makes great skins and I'd happily recommend them to anyone. :) Thanks, BD!
Innovation!
I love thoughtful, mechanical design! It’s been several years since I bought a pair of BD skins and trimmed the profile with the BD envelope opener-aarrgh! Now BD includes an excellent plastic blade holder that precisely and easily cuts the 3mm offset in situ! Awesome!!
KIT DOES COME WITH OFFSET TRIM TOOL
this kit did come with the trim tool even though it's not pictured. However, the tool pictured did not come with my kit. I bought a trim tool separately and don't want you to make the same mistake I did.
Climb Like a Goat
Well, almost like a goat this year...needed ski crampons this year, more then I would like to say! The skins have been great on all new snow types, yes, including wet!
These are simple and work awesome
Trim to length. The new tool is very nice to use while trimming. I’ve been using the Ascension for 20 plus years and I have no complaints. Black Diamond is top shelf.
Easy to install for a newbie
These were easy to fit and install for me - someone who is completely new to fitting skins. The video that Black Diamond has posted as a how-to made this a breeze!
