Insulated performance for your resort days
Thoughtfully designed, very functional insulated ski coat. Too warm for my backcountry outings, but has been great for resort days. Well-sized hood for use over a helmet. Pockets in all of the right places and sizes, and appreciate the combination of zip and non-zip interior pockets. Have spilled a lot on this coat already and exposed it to dirt and it has stayed clean, even though the DWR finish doesn't include perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs/PFAS). Sleeves are longer than I'd like, but not too bothersome. Have ended up wearing this coat on dog walks and doing errands in town, because it's just so comfortable and functional.
Not all it’s cracked up to be
Unfortunately the color is different than advertised. Much more of a bright blue with no green/teal undertone like the pictures. The pants are pretty good, but the jacket is disappointing; the sleeves are very thin, much closer to a windbreaker than a ski jacket. Seems good for spring skiing but I wouldn’t trust it in January. Also despite ordering an XS (normally I’m a S; 5’2 120 lbs) I’m swimming in the jacket and the pants are too long. I will say though, the pocket lining is a very soft material and the zippers feel strong enough to survive WW3.
Fantastic jacket!
This jacket is fantastic for outdoor play! It has the side vents for much needed cooling off once your heart rate is up and your blood is pumping! It runs a half size small, so it can be a little challenging to unzip those side vents when you need to without taking the jacket off if you are somewhat broad shouldered or have muscular arms. Otherwise, it is very comfortable and well insulated. It is also water resistant (which is good since we have had more rain than snow this year grrrrr) and can be in snow for several hours without getting soaked. In moderate rain it was wet in about 30 minutes. The hood is nice and ample, tho a little on the large side (which is great if you are wearing a hat with a pom pom!) so it can slide back relatively easily. The material is extremely wind resistant and you can nordic or downhill ski for several hours very comfortably. I will hopefully have more action shots to post once it actually snows without rain and I can get out to ski comfortably! In the meantime I have some general pics for general fit and look. The front pocket is larger than some I have used and you can fit an extra pair of gloves and a few hand warmers! The side pockets are typical and stay dry even with extensive snow play.
Could be better
Product Overview: This jacket came as it was described in product overviews. It is lightly insulated, especially in the torso area. The arms do not seem to be as insulated as the rest of the jacket. It was good for warmer Colorado skiing but I will need to add layers for colder weather. Sizing/Fit: This jacket runs true to size. I am 5”5 and 165 with an athletic build. I am between a Medium and a Large and went with the Medium because I like a little more fitted jacket. I recommend sizing up if you are between sizes and plan to add layers or like a baggier look. Pros: -Waterproofing is good (zippers, lining, etc) -Pockets are all fleece lined and are deep. The type/location of pockets on this jacket are on par with any modern ski jacket -Arm pit zippers are super nice (but also standard on a lot of jackets these days) -jacket material does a good job of moving well but also blocking out wind and snow -The front zipper face shield comes up very high which is nice but has a pretty big con too Cons: -I wish the hood was detachable -The zippers are tiny and hard to grab with ski gloves -the front zipper/face shield is made from the jacket material and when I breathe in, it gets stuck to my mouth and I can’t breathe through the material. My other ski jacket has a Sherpa lining on the face shield that you can breathe through but this jacket does not. The first time it happened, I was mid run and it freaked me out because it felt like i was being suffocated. I ended up unzipping the jacket a little bit to prevent it from happening again. I am also going to try a balaclava next time but I have not tried that at the time of leaving the review -when the jacket is slightly unzipped, the hood doesn’t stay up Final thoughts: I love the Patagonia brand and this is a nice jacket but I am not convinced this jacket is worth the full price. The flaw with the face shield is pretty bad in my opinion. Otherwise the features this jacket offers are on par with jackets that are quite a bit less expensive.
Powder Town Winter Jacket
This jacket is a treat with its quilted insulation, big open and zippered internal pockets, and minimally invasive snowskirt. Runs a bit big so you can add extra layers underneath but attractive enough to wear in town as an all around jacket. I am right on the cusp between small and medium sizing so the medium I got provided ample room for anything I could have wanted to load into my pockets (snacks, beacons if off-resort, wallets etc etc). I love the sage color as well (even though I'm usually a function over style person)
Great jacket
I love this jacket. I have a hard time finding women’s that have arms long enough for me.
Great jacket for skiing or everyday use
I bought this for skiing and it's been great through two seasons so far. I love the pockets - chest pocket, internal mesh pocket, internal zip pocket, arm pocket for your ski pass, and two normal side pockets. I guess the only negative that I've noticed is that the hood is built to go over a ski helmet (which I have used and it is great), so when I have used the hood when I am not wearing my helmet, that means it is way too big and hangs down over my eyes. I've tried folding it back a bit but just falls back in front of my eyes after a second or two. This is a rare occassion, I'm otherwise really happy with it!
Not recommended for petites
Wanted to love it but the sizing was off for me (5’2”). I’m usually a small and even exchanged for a medium, but sadly it didn’t help. The powder skirt made the jacket uncomfortable and pull/gather so the jacket laid funny. If the power skirt was detachable I would have likely kept the small.
Warm!
Perfect for our trip to Iceland! Provided warmth and helped keep me dry. I look forward to using for future skiing trips as well.
Warm, Dry and LOTS of Pockets!
I love this coat! The number and type of pockets were my first attraction but the comfort and performance in our COLD weather has made it my GO -TO coat.
