Great snow pants.
Tested by active 10yo. Things she liked: Cozy fleece interior. Insulated but not bulky. Kept her butt and legs warm while sitting/kneeling in the snow. Waterproof. Cuffs are grippy and held onto her boots. Things she didn’t like: Pants are not “bib” style so she got snow up her back when sliding in the snow. Limited color choices. Things I liked: Tough material. Waterproof. Adjustable elastic waist. Expanding hem. Looking forward to using it for her younger sister when the pants are close to being outgrown. Areas to possibly improve: Bib style pants cannot be beaten for kids. Perhaps a non-insulated upper part just to keep the snow out but thin to prevent overheating. Knee patches.
Let's Go to the Snow! These pants could be great!
From a look's perspective, the pants are sleek, simple, and set to go. The color is eye-catching but not over the top. My daughter's favorite color is blue, so it checked that box, but from my view, the color is gender-neutral and can be combined with any other color. The REI logo is represented but doesn't overwhelm the eye. Let's discuss wearing the pants. The pants are warm and easy to get on and off. If you have children, sometimes that can break the deal. The ability to adjust the waistline with velcro is excellent. It gives you options for the number of layers you wear or if your child is still growing. The pants are long, even with boots on. Depending on the brand, my daughter is a size 12 or 14, and these pants are longer than any of her pants at size 12. You could look at this two ways. One your kid can grow into these pants and last several seasons. Or how will I hem or adjust these pants so they are not tripping all over them? You decide. I would rather have it be too big and grow into them than the opposite. These pants need additional pockets, including at least one zippered pocket. To put a room key, a phone, etc., and it is secured. Overall, it is a good, solid pair of pants. They don't blow you away, but at the same time, do the job and don't break the bank.
Keep your kiddo warm on the slopes
I got these pants for free in exchange for an honest review. These pants kept my little snowboarder warm all day. We did a lot of sitting on the snow but my kiddo was dry and warm even at the end of the day. These pants are durable, breathable, and stylish. The waistband was super adjustable and allows room for growth. The high waist kept the snow from getting in while seated on the slopes. I wish they had a little for stretch for freedom of motion.
Nice pants but could almost be too warm
The size is very true; fits a 12-year-old height perfectly, with some room in the waist for extra layers if needed/wanted. The boot liner is nice to have the extend-a-size option. With the boot liner, the fleece lining ends at the boot guard, which helps the boot/leg area not feel so bulky. The only concern I would have is with the fleece. The fleece insulation could be a bit much if someone gets warm very quickly, and it could cause the kid to overheat. The adjustable straps at the waist is very helpful in the absence of suspenders. The blue color is very neutral and almost gives the look of blue jeans. Overall, however, these are excellent pants for a full day in the snow.
Fantastic Kids Ski Pants!
I got these pants for my nine year old son. He wears a size eight and these fit very well and are true to size. These are very well made with a warm fleece lining, reinforced cuff material and adjustable waistband. These feel very well made and great for any outdoor winter activity!
Nice pants with room to grow
Full disclosure, there is no snow at my house currently so I cannot give them a full review. That being said, these seem like nice pants. I got them for my daughter. She is 11 and about 5'2" and 100lbs. She is quite active so she is pretty lean. She typically has issues with pants either being the right length and too wide in the waste, or fitting in the waste and too short. These pants honestly are not any different. They have a good length on them and fit her long legs well. The waste however, even when synched up is still a bit too baggy. Perhaps if we put a larger sweatshirt or something on underneath it would help fill the space. Other than that they are really nice. The material is nice and warm and comfortable. There is even a string that you can pull to let out additional hem length for when they grow. Additionally, my wife, who is about the same height and slightly heavier can wear these too. So, when my daughter outgrows them my wife will have a nice pair of snow pants to wear in the winters.
Ready for ski season!
What a treat to have soft fleece insulated kids pants. After an extra cold ski season last winter, we appreciate the warm lining, especially when it feels so cozy to put on. These pants cinched up with the velcro to perfectly fit and will be able to adjust as our guy grows - we appreciate the leg cuff we can let out to get a second season of use. Pants are well made, sturdy and easy to bend in. Now all we need is some good snow!
The Perfect Snow Pants
My partner needed new winter/snow pants. She is 5'6" and weighs 110 pounds. She has no hips so women's pants are always too big, and men's pants would never be small enough. So, I decided to take a chance on the largest size in Kids' snow pants. They worked perfectly, and she loves the fit! They keep out the snow and wind and they work whether we are walking our dog, playing in the snow, or caring for our horses! Nice job REI!
Won't fit over snowboard boots
These are nice looking pants and the XL fits my slim teenager well. Unfortunately, the cuffs are too small to fit over snowboard boots without a serious fight. Probably a good choice for snow play, but not the slopes...
Good but not very durable fabric
The fabric tore in two places after a season on skiing. I expected more durability out of these
