Adventuring So Hard
These sunglasses have been the perfect accessory for my adventuring. I wore my first pair to climb Kilimanjaro and hike various national parks throughout North America. Then I replaced them and adventured through Antarctica with them. I cannot say enough about how great these sunglasses are. Absolutely love them!
I love my SunSkis, I have 3 pairs!
I love my Sunskis, especially the ones with the side shields. They are perfect for hiking! And I love that the don’t slide on my face when my nose is sweaty from hiking.
Great specs that DO ship with single use plastics
I came across these after a long search for some quality sunglasses that weren’t hyper marked-up by some souless mega-monopoly and I am very satisfied with my purchase. A lot of care went into making these a good product and it shows. The lenses have a very strong mirror on the outside that matched my expectations from the models’ photos in the product gallery. The side-guards do an excellent job blocking out light and dust that might blow in from the sides, as well as generally breaking up wind that would otherwise get in my eyes. The tortisehell design of the side-guards pairs well aesthetically with the clear frames. Speaking of frames, I’m a big fan of these. It’s especially impressive how sturdy these feel for being so light and slim. They hold well on my noggin without squeezing or slipping. The nose guard is very comfortable, and they sit comfortably on my ears even with my bone-conduction headphones and a hat all fighting for real-estate. A little surprise feature that I like very much is how inset the lenses are. The lenses sit a couple millimeters deep in the frames which keeps me from painting the insides of them with spf 30 with my sunscreen laden eyebrows. I’m not sure if this is standard on all sunskis, or just a byproduct of the geometry needed to accommodate the side-guards, but I love it. The lenses themselves seem pretty fragile, picking up superficial scratches from everyday wear. Frustratingly, one of those came from the zipper on the included case. It’s not anything major. It hasn’t affected clarity, the scratches aren’t really even visible unless you’re looking for it, and it’s easy to avoid bumping them into the zipper now that I know to avoid it. It’s just frustrating being able to notice wear so quickly. That much isn’t really unique to sunski though. The lens material they use, TAC, is pretty common and definitely has its advantages. I might be interested in looking at different material options if Sunski ever offers it, but in the meantime a zipperless sunglasses case would go a long way. Everything else about the glasses were true to their description. Slate lenses, polarized, mirrored, fog resistant, etc. Really there’s only one detail that keeps me from giving these a 5-star rating: the packaging! This may seem like a nitpick (may very well be), but hear me out. On the website sunski advertises that the products ship with NO single-use plastic. When I received my package, the USPS box had everything in place with plastic packaging. Underneath that was a small pamphlet that, again, marketed that the product ships with zero single use plastic. Inside of the box with the sunglasses was a note saying the packaging is free of single use plastic. I put the parts the box shipped with back together and took a picture I’ll be attaching to this review. So the product ships with plastic filler material. Is this the end of the world? No. Does this detract from the high-quality of the product? Not at all. Am I still open to buying more sunskis in the future? Yeah, I actually already have my next pair picked out. But you can’t put that much marketing behind an aspect of your product without opening yourself up to criticism, and despite claims, the glases ship with single-use plastics. Maybe the claims refer only to the small box that houses just the glasses themselves and not the larger USPS box, but if thats the case its still misleading. Other than that small hiccup, I still find myself highly recommending these to anybody that might be interested. Good product, good mission statement, good purchase.
hi!!! thank you for the detailed feedback, and for calling out the shipping plastic - this is a huge point of contention we have with our warehouse partner. we constantly spec kraft paper void fill and they'll use it for about a little bit, and then go back to lazy plastic bubble wrap without telling us. they otherwise do such a good job on timely and accurate fulfillment, but this is a fight wea re constantly having. ultimately we take responsibility for our vendors decisions, and so this is a place we know about and want to improve. just want to make sure you hear that 'we get it' and we need to turn the screws tighter to make sure our entire apparatus is living up to our sustainability values!!
The best of the best
These are my favorite shades I own now. The lens are great and the polarization is a perfect tint. They are super lightweight and comfortable which is good for wearing all day out in the elements. I've worn them snowboarding, while working with power tools and out riding toys in the desert and they perform just as well as goggles in my opinion. Plus my chick said I look like a badass when I wear them so..... you know. Highly recommend
Sunshields immediately broke, poor quality.
I bought these a week ago, upon arriving I was excited since the sunshields would be useful for active outdoor events. Unfortunately the sunshields are not actually 'removable'. They're fixed to the lens with these puny plastic tabs, and you have to flex the sunshield to get it out of the glasses. The problem is they've made this almost impossible to do by adding a 'lip' to the sunshield tabs so they won't come out of their housing. First attempt and these flimsy plastic tabs broke off, making them useless. Otherwise the glasses are fine, they look good, but the sunshields are the only reason to pay double what you'd pay for comparable quality sunglasses from other brands.
Hi there, so sorry to hear that you've experienced this. I am sending you an email now to send you a new set of sun shields.
Buying glasses online is difficult
I bought these glasses about a year ago and I really wanted to love them. The side shields are really slick and I love that they are removable. The glasses are super lightweight so my ears and nose don't ache after a day in the mountains. The tough part is that I just can't get them to stay on my face (especially while sweaty) without tightening a croakie around the back of my head - which doesn't feel or look super cool. Unfortunately I think I'll have to give these to a buddy with a larger head. I'm still out there looking for the perfect adventure glasses so maybe I'll try the Tera someday.
The best of the best!
The best shades ive ever owned. Paired with a ballcap and the fight with glare is completely gone. Theyre durable for any adventure and outing. Ive own plenty of competitor brands and these take the cake. Ive convinced all of my friends to grab a pair!
Recommend for glacier glasses/snow travel
Used on Rainier- loved the lightweight design, vents helped protect against fogging when using a buff over mouth/nose. They did not slide down my nose or face while looking down at my feet and rope for hours on end. I never took the side panels off, I see some reviews complaining they are delicate and easily snap or break. Functionality is most critical, but these look cool and stylish too. Great in shady and low light conditions as well as blazing sun reflecting off snow. I consider my eyes pretty sensitive and frequently require sunglasses even in the PNW. No complaints. Happy I bought them and wish I had them on prior trips in the past.
Great protective wear
Comfortable, super sun protective, sturdy, nice look, great for any activity!
Nice surprise!
I never thought I'd spend as much on a pair of sunglasses, butI needed a good quality pair after eye surgery that provided reliable UV protection as well as side coverage. I wasn't feeling all the wraparound styles that I was finding on the internet. I stumbled upon Sunski and was intrigued by the styles that included the magnetic side protection. I'm not a skier but I spend a lot of time outdoors. The Terra sunglasses are super comfortable, light, sturdy, provide beautiful clear vision, great sun protection and I love the style! The guidelines for size were extremely accurate and they fit perfectly. Expectations exceeded and money well spent.
