Great battery & style with GPS
I really like this watch. It’s low profile, light weight, and easy to wear. I love that unlike a lot of watches I can easily go 1-2 weeks of real world usage without charging it( leave the backlight off or low). For me charging a watch means forgetting to charge it or forgetting it on the charger, so happily this watch is always with me. The sapphire glass and titanium seem really tough and I have no scratches yet. For heart rate, sleep, training, stress levels, etc it’s great. You get basic smart phone alerts but nothing like a galaxy or Apple Watch, for me that doesn’t matter. I don’t want anything other than text and calendar alerts. The extra battery and ruggedness is totally worth the reduced tech features. At half the price or less of a Garmin Fenix (especially a sapphire pro solar) I think the GPS is awesome. I really got this watch so that on long hikes and especially multi day hikes I can find myself on a map! It will give you GPS or UTM coordinates and you can then find yourself on any decent paper topo map or on Google maps, Gaia, etc. if you have a phone with battery. A vital safety feature if you hike a lot. I often run gps tracking at various battery levels/frequency if I want to track the hike and get turn by turn guidance but I leave that off at night to save battery if my hike is 3 days or more. If it’s a week or more I would just use GPS to double check my location when needed. You can use the GPS or the UTM coordinates or your whole track from the day with the Suunto app or Gaia and you don’t need to run your phone battery out with GPS! Nice option for evenings at camp planning the next day on my phone or paper map. The Suunto app could probably be a little better compared to apple etc, but I’m fine with it. I actually prefer the Suunto app route planning and topo maps to what Garmin’s app has. I like the style of the watch and I’m happy. Only complaint is that while Suunto does track surfing and waves and give you time stamps and stats and stuff, it doesn’t sync with Surfline Sessions. Hope they add that.
Mostly great but some issues need improvement
I do love the watch itself. The functionality, design, and readability is awesome. But it does not record my sleep hours outside of the app's set sleep hours. It doesn't automatically record an activity like my Fitbit Versa 3 did. If I don't select an activity and start & end it, then it didn't happen. In that sense the Versa 3 was much smarter than the 9 Peak Pro. Also the charger leaves much to be desired; the attachment to the watch is very weak and the length of the charger is only 20".
Suunto will not stand behind its products
I'm posting this review as a buyer-beware warning to customers contemplating purchase of a Suunto product. My recent negative experience unfortunately highlights Suunto's disregard for customer service and product integrity in favor of corporate policy, profit, and classic corporate greed. I purchased a Suunto 5 watch several years ago that failed at the watch connection sockets to the watch band . Suunto's cost for replacing/repairing this defect AT MY COST for $120+ is excessive for a what is basically a design defect that should not have failed in the first place. Please read on if you are interested: 1) The watch had very light wear and I believe failed because of poor design and/or manufacturing. I believe Suunto should have gladly used this information to correct that flaw and repair the product or refund my money, even though the warranty had expired. 2) Suunto refused to do so, citing corporate policy in several "too bad for you" email responses that contained standard corporate lingo, and also cited how much they appreciated my input and concern. This is simply insulting and irresponsible. 3) I'm citing the repair cost as $120+ based on memory because Suunto's website is so poor it would not allow me to go back to confirm that cost. That cost included excessive add-on charges for cleaning, repositioning the bezel, etc. that I feel were secondary to the real problem (that they would not acknowledge) and unnecessary. Current cost of the Suunto 5 on Amazon is $169. 4) Ethically this is wrong and tantamount to theft. I feel ripped off, so beware that Suunto will not stand behind its products even when there is a clear design failure.
Suunto will not support this watch
Do Not Buy this Watch! Suunto will not support you if the charger (which is quite a necessary feature to prevent the watch from becoming a $300 paperweight) breaks or is lost. When my charger broke after 3 short weeks, Suunto's website indicated the they were "out of stock". Additionally, they didn't indicate when or if they would be back in stock, nor did they indicate where you could get a replacement charger. Customer service suggested I go to a third-party site to buy a generic replacement. Not quite the level of support or quality I was hoping for when I bought the watch. Suunto usef to be a good company with quality products and good customer service. I give them a D- for product support and an F for customer service. I wil no longer buy any Suunto products.
Love it. It opened a whole new world for me.
Now i can FIND BACK if I get lost or loose my phone. Best look. One of the other great feature is that you can de-populated the items on the watch from your phone app. The shared short videos of the hike put people in awe and have so much detail that they show more information then any other app I have seen so far. Thanks Europeans (Made in Finland), where they now that sometimes less is more.
Loving it
Great watch. Sleek but gives you lots of customization and usage.
