Great look but not strong material
Broke on the second time of use. Top Hopper lid that sits on top of the shaft - made out of soft plastic that wasn't strong enough to handle the pressure. It caused a deformation in the structure of the lid and the handle was slipping and wouldn't turn the shaft.
Car camping coffee grinder
The OXO manual coffee grinder was extremely easy to use. It fit in the hand nicely and the grinding arm movement was smooth. It ground 1/3 cup (80 grams) quickly and easily. It seems as if it could hold 1/2 cup (120 grams). The grind adjustment was adequate for drip and pour over, but it did not grind coffee beans fine enough for espresso. The initial feel of it’s weight leads one to believe it has glass containers at each end; however, they are very thick plastic-type material. The issue with this material was static causing the coffee grounds to adhere to the the cup. When dumping the grounds, the static caused a minor spread of granules on the rim and outside of the cup, and eventually on the surface of where it was set it down. This item is best kept for use in the kitchen or car camping. It requires no electricity, works wonderfully and is a solid build. It measures about 3” in diameter by 9” high.
Like but don’t love
Pros: love a good on the go coffee grinder. I liked that this has a “20g” line for your beans so you could measure off of that. I like that the grind settings are easy to set and that it felt good in my hands , not too bulky. Cons: because the bottom part is plastic there is a ton of static cling that makes it difficult for all the coffee to come out. It would be better if it was stainless steel. There is a little knob and groove for the bottom to fit together, but it is on the inside. To see it you have to get under the grinder, which with all the staticky coffee grinds left over I didn’t like. A little dot on the outside would help with this, which I put on with a sharpie. I would say I give this 70%. It got the job done but the static cling is annoying enough to not recommend it

Super simple set up. Easy to use, easy to choose grind setting. Haven't fully cleaned yet but seems simple. I love/ hate that part of it is glass (heavy to carry, simple and easy to use and clean.) As someone who doesn't need a giant bag of ground coffee, this is ideal.
Solid Coffee Grinder
This is a solid hand grinder. It's not the lightest, so not ideal for backpacking, but the build quality feels pretty good. This is great option for car camping or home use. I was able to get consistent grinds and made some great coffee with this grinder.
First use was rough, but likely my fault.
I received this product a few weeks ago and was very excited as I have never used a coffee grinder before. I've been looking into getting one and this seemed like a good starting place. I first noticed the compact size and handle that folds away nicely which I felt would be good for packing when camping. The directions that came with the device were very clear and includes a grind size/setting recommendation for different types of coffee preparation such as French press or pour over. I put in about 20g of whole bean for my first use at a setting of 6 for pour over coffee. I noted the handled turned easily and the coffee was ground without much effort. Took about sixty seconds to grind it all. The reason I gave it four stars was when I opened the cup on the bottom where the grinds fall, there seemed to be a static effect and grounds floated into the air and spilled out of the grinder. I poured the grounds into the filter four my pour over and the added the water as I normally do. I found the coffee wasn't as strong as I normally like it, but discovered this was due to the coarseness of the grind. I should have set it much finer for a stronger cup of coffee. After washing and rinsing the grinder and trying again, I found the static effect was negated. This may also have to do with the grind being finer. Who knows... But the end result is I had a coffee flavor much more to my liking, and will happily continue to use this item on many adventures to come.
Worked until it broke
This thing failed with maybe 10 to 20 uses. The plastic nut that the hand crank engages with inside stripped out. It’s not very well built, I definitely wouldn’t buy it again. You would be better to spend twice as much and get a much better built stainless steel conical burr hand crank grinder, like the 1Zpresso J or other similar brands and have an item that lasts a long time. Especially if you think you will use something like this often. REI should really think about selling more quality items in this space, rather than such a cheap, disposable option, like this. 2 stars because it made good, evenly ground coffee while it lasted.
Impressive gadget
I was pleasantly surprised by this lil guy. My husband is an absolute coffee snob and grinds his coffee in a very particular way im order to use our french press precisely. Took this grinder car camping with is and although i pondered on wether we should bring ground coffee on the trip, we opted to risk it and just bring this guy and our favorite coffee beans. This grinder did just the job. We had our delicious cup of coffee while watching a beautiful sunrise. Once home, I properly cleaned the grinder and it was such a breeze, it was like it was new again. Im very impressed!
Not completely reliable!
It worked well for the first 5 grinds. I cleaned it every time I used it and did not disassemble any parts of it to ensure that it will work. I planned on using it when I went out to NYC to do reviews on roasteries that roasted thier own beans. I was left with a couple bag full of ungrounded beans from various places in downtown Manhattan, an unused Aeropress, and of course this unusable hang grinder. I thought it was reliable to purchase this, but now I have to hold off on grinding beans. I would be willing to pay 3x this price if I'm guaranteed a reliable hand grinder. I guess I'll stay away from that. Thank goodness I didn't bring this for a hiking trip/camping trip.
Great camping/travel coffee grinder! Recommend!
Nice, easy to use coffee grinder! Small enough that it is easy to pack and it is good quality, seems as though it is built to last! Great for camping, picnics, or when you're just on the trail and want freshly ground coffee!
