Awful design that injured me and have been waiting from HOKA for two months to process my return. These shoes are built up on the ridge of your foot so much that it bowed in my legs. I trusted HOKA and thought it would be something I would have to get used to. It made me counter the build up and ended up running on the edge of that ridge so that I wouldn’t run bow legged. This made me fall randomly multiple times. I thought maybe I would get used to it so I went for another run the next day. I continued to fall until I was throughly injured. I made the decision to exchange these shoes though HOKA as that’s who I bought them through. It’s now been 2 months and they are still “processing “ my order. I’m an avid runner and use running as my primary form of exercise and have never had this problem before. These are my second set of HOKAs and I did not have this problem with the previous pair. However due to their awful customer service I will not be buying again.
I’ve been running for over 40 years and this is the best shoe I have ever worn. Excellent for trails!
My purpose for purchasing this shoe was for a 50 mile ultra marathon and preparation. I have a narrow foot. I immediately noticed that the shoe had too much volume for me so my foot slid around in the shoe. I have to tie it extremely tight to keep my heel from slipping. The tongue is incredibly thin especially at the top so the lock down is missing. The laces dig into my ankle since I have to tie it so tight. I managed to make this more comfortable by cutting up some old shoe tongues and putting them underneath the tongue as well as swapping out the thin laces for something that would take up more space. Stability and weight are fantastic. I enjoyed the stiffness of the plates although they didn't help me to run any faster. I'm a mid pack runner. I read some reviews that people found these more plush than the Speed Goat. I did not find that to be the case. These are more responsive with less cushion but plenty to keep the feet comfortable. I was able to complete my race and have 250+ miles in them. If Hoka can address the upper end of the tongue, I think that would be beneficial for all runners. The foot volume availability is runner specific so it likely fits the majority of runners. It has more foot room than the Speed Goat. Overall, I am happy with my purchase but won't buy again unless there are some general improvements that suit my foot specifically.
