Sizing Notes

For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

My new favorite trail runner

This is an excellent trail runner with a hybrid rubber sole that is the best I've experienced other than actual climbing rubber. Straight out of the box I took these on the Grandfather Mountain trail in North Carolina(one of the more technical trails on the East Coast with rugged terrain and some scrambling) when there was freezing rain and ice on the trail. They stuck like glue even though the entire trail was soaked and in some parts a small running creek. Pros: Best rubber of any trail runner I've used. Seems to be a hybrid running/climbing rubber. The shoes are extremely light and did not feel bulky in the least. Neutral: Had to get a half size up and when I put them on the first time and even then they were snug around my foot. I have a wide foot so in the beginning this was tight, but after a few miles they molded and it was a plus on the downhills to keep my foot from sliding. Cons: It would have been nice to have this in a gortex model. Since I did run with them out on wet trails I almost immediately had wet feet from just splashing in thin puddles. It didn't create any hot spots and the main point of water entry was the top of the shoe, so any other time(not raining) it would just be good foot ventilation. Overall: I've run several trails in varying conditions and these are my new go to favorite trail runners. I'll probably use them for light hikes as well.

If Only the Fit Was Better

I wanted to love these, but the comfort just wasn't there. I was advised to size up as they run small. Sizing up gave me enough room in the toe box, but through mid foot and arch they were tight. For short, light hikes, or runs they were great, but when I tried to add more distance they became very uncomfortable. That being said, they were not all bad. The tread was great and grippy. Not once did I feel unstable, even on slick rock. The sole seems to be stiffer than other trail runners I've tried, which I rather liked. If I could get the fit dialed in, I could see this becoming a new favorite. My advice would be to size up for sure, and try them on before buying.

Superior

Got these because of dividend and because my HOKA Speedgoat 4 GTX's were causing numerous ankle turns when running on rocky/rooty trails..even twisted sometimes when just hiking. These are tremendous. First time out with them gave me a heel blister, and heel support is less than prior trail runners, but 2nd and beyond have been GREAT! Certainly solved my ankle twisting. These do run small/snug, so thanks to other reviewers who recommended sizing up (I'm 10.5). They're the best trail runners I've ever had. Mostly run 3-6 miles of very rocky/rooty Eastern PA trails. Not stiff at all, which maybe makes them a little less weather-resistant than stiffer Arc'teryx trail runners I've had before, but they're light and super comfortable even on rough terrain.

The Cinderella's slipper of trail runners

Used this shoe exclusively on my AT thru hike and shakedown hikes, going through 3 pairs. I regretfully replaced my first pair after only 600 miles, and my subsequent two each lasted over 1000 miles without ever failing catastrophically. My feet are exceptionally narrow, making these a perfect fit, plus I loved the traction and of course the durability. The mesh part of the shoe and panel seams near the front were the weak points. I would sew these up with dental floss and glue over the top to create a permanent fix. This is the last hiking oriented trail runner I will ever buy, and I'm tempted to buy a dozen pairs to hoard in case they're discontinued or changed.

Solid Technical Trail Runner

Solid 14er trail runner. I was looking for a stiffer, more grippy trail runner that I could wear on more technical mountainous terrain, primarily classes 2+ to 4 on 14er routes, that would give me a similar stiffness (maybe not quite as much) to an approach shoe, but still incorporate the good qualities of a trail runner (ability to run in them, lightweight, still durable). Overall, the Bushido has done its job. The first route I wore them on was Kelso Ridge up Torreys Peak. They handled very well on the terrain, both in the sections with shale and dirt and the sections with solid rock and moderate climbing. Then, I wore them on the Tour de Abyss (Bierstadt’s East Ridge, Sawtooth Ridge to Evans). Same story, my only complaint is the narrowness of the shoe which is why I am giving 4 stars. I typically wear a 9.5 mens, and I had to wear a 43.5 (or mens 10.5) to get a decently comfortable fit, still tight. I have wider then average feet and was actually told that La Sportiva may not work for my feet; I’ve been able to make these work but they took a little to get used to. For someone with narrower feet, this would be a five star review.

Mt. Bike Tires for Your Feet

Purpose built for trail running, these shoes offer a great combination of traction, stability, and comfort for off-road running/hiking. These are not just repurposed road-runners with a slightly stiffer midsole and a knobby outsole. They are geared for the unique demands of running on uneven terrain with sloping elevation changes. (They might work in a pinch on the road, but your feet will be fatigued. Stick to natural surface trails.) First, about the fit. The toe box is snug without cramming toes together, and the midfoot and heel are on the narrow side. For me, this is ideal as I have a narrower heel and achilles area, and grips my foot well. Be sure to select a half size larger than normal (my reference are the two brands that begin with a lowercase "a") to accommodate the narrower last shape. On performance, these feel amazing out on the trail. They are stable, agile, and inspire confidence in tricky terrain. The combination of materials on the outsole have amazing grip without feeling odd, but do expect to pick up some debris when the middle section (red) is brand new and very tacky. There is a noticeable reinforcement under the forefoot allowing for a comfortable landing, even on sharp gravel. The different traction zones create a solid, planted feel on any side sloping sections. Thanks to having a proper winter this year in SoCal, it was possible to try them out in wet and muddy conditions. Not a problem, at all. Unless, the mud gets ankle deep, you won't notice much loss of traction on softer, wetter conditions.

It's a winner!

Great fit, great traction, awesome color scheme, and is holding up well. Just like a shoe of this caliber should. I would absoultley buy these again or recommend them to firends with out a doubt. The Negitive: It doesnt do a great job at being water resistant at all.

Good shoes made great!

I loved the Bushido 1, but you did take a beating with any long distance run and I spent a lot of money and time testing shoes with more padding only finding myself going back to them because of how stable and light they were. Tie it up with a heel lock and confidence level went up to 100%. This new version looks great and added just the right amount of extra cushion for the long haul while even gaining on grippiness. La Sportiva hit it out of the park, keeping everything that made the 1 such a strong performer and upgrading exactly where it was needed. Size up, yes. Lock in your heels, yes. Enjoy, absolutely!

Great Trail Shoe

These are some great trail running shoes. The build is very good, and it is a very comfortable shoe. They are quite light, and have *amazing* traction. It's almost like big bike tires for your feet! :) They do run slightly small. Even sizing up, it is a little tight around the mid-foot, and after a little distance, it started getting a little uncomfortable. It wasn't bad, and mayget better after more use. I would think that these shoes would be great for hiking short trails in addition to trail running. The grip, as I mentioned before, is really great. Overall, it's definitely worth checking these out. La Sportiva has come out with a great shoe.

I love them. I really love them

I love them. I wanted to keep my LS Ultra Raptors II but they were too tall and narrow and thus a little unstable for my biomechanics. For so long I searched for a replacement —both trail runners and boots and finally came back to LS b/c these had great reviews and keep your heel lower to the ground. They fit great although 12M is a half size larger than I usually get. I would sign up for a lifetime supply if I could —La Sportiva don’t you dare change or discontinue these!!— really, why do they have to update these things every season? If it’s great it’s great. And these are great. And that’s why I love them.
