Comfortable fit & great in trees and pow
I used the Smith Nexus helmet, the last three days, in trees, POW, and off piste and it worked great. Today I mounted my GoPro, and the helmet adjustments gave me a secure fit so the added weight of my my camera didn’t move my goggles down on my forehead, even in moguls. It was very comfortable, and I didn’t have any hotspots. The fit with my goggles was excellent, and face shots didn’t sneak into my helmet. Today was a bit colder at Squaw, so I put a thin hat under my helmet, and it worked great. The shell does seem a little large, so be sure your hood will fit with the helmet. Overall, I really like this Smith helmet.
Sleek and sturdy helmet
This helmet looks very sharp, and feels extremely well-built and sturdy. It is also pretty comfortable, although did feel slightly tight at the top of the head, though not very noticeable once I wore it for longer. I really like that the chin strap is long and allows the wearing of a buff or scarf underneath the chin comfortable. The strap clasp is a little strange at first since I'm used to buckles, but this one has more of a slide-in magnetic clasp. It does feel secure though once clasped together. There are also two sets of adjustable vents on top, each one allows fully open or half open configurations. The back has a strap for the goggle strap which is pretty easy to take off or on. Overall, an extremely solid helmet with good features and definitely makes me feel safer on the slopes.
This helmet is top notch
First time upgrading to a nice helmet. Looked at reviews for weeks and came upon this one. Bought it in a large and I'm shocked at the quality. The shell is really hard and looks nice. The boa system tightens not just the back so your head feels secure. The earpieces are thick and comfy, but sort of noise isolating. Lastly the vents are awesome. There is two different sliders for front and back but they open up half way as well. This helmet allows for so much freedom and choices. I am worried about the durability of the fidlock system but time will tell, everything else on the helmet is better than expected. I would recommend this helmet to anyone
Sizing runs larger than Vantage
This helmet has great features and wanted to love the fit but just doesn’t work for me. I was able to try on a medium before ordering that was just a hair too small. The only large I was able to try was the Vantage which fit great. The Nexus large fits much looser than the Vantage large and cinched to a proper fit put the visitor so low on the forehead none of the goggles I tried would fit well. Just could not get it adjusted for a comfortable fit and had to return it and getting the Vantage. Quality, style, and features of the Nexus are top notch and if it fit me as well as the Vantage does would be five stars all the way.
The best helmet on the market?
Okay, this is supposed to be a snowboarding helmet but I actually use it for so much more. At first I took it snowboarding and it was amazing because… 1. It never pinched my ears. 2. Fit my ears really well. 3. Has a really unique snapping chin strap that is really easy to use with gloves on. I highly recommend for snowboarding as well as a backup bike helmet 😁
Nice Helmet
Not the warmest helmet. Adding a hood/liner helps, and not otherwise being warm means it works better as it gets warmer. Great integration with my Smith goggles, which never fog. Had an issue with a previous Smith helmet with the goggle retainer getting too stretched. It looks like the goggle retainer on the Nexus is not replaceable (which I find odd, as that is a high warranty issue. Had to remove foam from the earpiece to get music speakers to fit. Even doing that, the fit was pretty snug (same size as old helmet). But after a couple weeks, I have either adapted or it has packed out a little. I like the magnetic buckle. Light, but not the lightest helmet out there. Expensive, but my head is worth it.
I am 6 ft 1
I am 6 ft 1 and has a relatively big head. This is one of very few helmets with MIPS that fits me comfortably. Also, it fits nicely with my XL goggles.
Comfortable and warm!
The Smith Nexus Mips helmet has a lot of adjustment which lets you stay comfortable. The two different vents let you adjust how warm it is. And the boa lets you fine tune the fit to just what you need. The boa and vents combined let you easily change the helmet based on what you're wearing under the helmet - a hat, a balaclava, nothing - and still stay comfortable. The true test of a helmet is how it performs in a crash which I hope to never test. But all of the writeups about the crash technology sound like they would help keep my head safe.
Smoothering
I had a Vantage for several years and decided it was time for something new. This helmet is bulky and does not fit me like the Vantage did. I am always on the cusp of Medium and Large helmets so I need use the retention system when buying a large. The medium did not fit in this instance. The BOA wires break free from the padding when tightening which I can feel and then need to loosen. May not be a big issue if you were a solid Large but this has been my experience. BOA issues aside, it is a hot helmet due to the wave cell but drafty so you sweat and then you freeze. The ventilation is greatly reduced with the wave cell in my opinion and this helmet is unbearable on a 40 degree day. Had I had the option to return after a couple of days of use, I absolutely would have.
Nice helmet
Helmet is overall comfortable. I fall right between sizes. I originally bought a medium and even with the helmet as loose as it went it was too small, moved up to a large and now I have it cranked down all the way as tight as it goes. Definitely allows more wind than my old helmet; if it is could out you will want some kind of other head covering. Hoping it will protect my noggin, but I don't plan to test it just to see.
