Low-light display is a fail
Sad Johnny
The features are really awesome, except for one glaring exception: the display is washed out when using the backlight in low light conditions. Apparently this is a well-known problem that I hadn’t noticed when doing my research, and it was not a problem on the older Instinct models — only the Instinct 2’s. It’s great in daylight and I would keep it if I didn’t use it much in the evening and/or under heavy tree cover, but I’m returning it for another model without this defect.

Great Features, Washed out screen

Loved the features and battery life but the screen washes out at night. Unreadable except with looking at it straight on. If you plan on using at night, I do not recommend this model. The Garmin Instinct 1 did not have this issue.

Great watch!

Purchased about 3 months ago on sale for $299. For the price, it's a great, feature packed watch. I wasn't looking for music, or extended connectivity to my phone, so the Instinct seemed like a good match. A pleasant surprise - it supports blue tooth and ANT+ HR strap connectivity. Only 2 negative comments (and why 4 stars instead of 5). 1) the solar thing is not worth the extra cost. I spend a lot of time outside, and I just haven't seen much benefit. 2) the wrist based HR is ok when you're not active, but the sweatier you get, the more unreliable it is. This wasn't a surprise, but I was hopeful that the new sensor package would be better.

Spotty readings.

I had a Forerunner 245 before this watch, for maybe two years(?) and had virtually no issues with it getting an accurate reading for runs and sleep and stress metrics. I wore it on my left arm, which is covered in black and grey tattoos, which I know that sometimes can affect the optical sensors in the watch, but I had no problems with the Forerunner. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I ordered this solar Instinct 2, so excited to get a new watch to train for my next ultra, when I realize I’m getting spotty readings throughout the day even when the watch is as tight as it can be. So I call Garmin support, they said there is nothing they can do to troubleshoot and recommended switching wrists, so I did that four days ago, it worked for three days, now no longer reads again, just like before on my tattooed arm. Idk if it’s because the watch is much larger (45mm vs 42(?)mm on the forerunner), or if it’s because the sensor is shaped different, but it’s not worth spending almost $500 after tax on this watch for it to give you spotty readings. I will be returning this. I’m so upset that it’s not working how it’s supposed to be, but at least I didn’t trash my Forerunner. I’ll just wait for something different I guess. Maybe a forerunner 255 and I just have to scratch the dream of going solar on a watch.

Game changer

I’ve had this watch for over a year.. gotta say it’s a game changer. I originally bought it for the heart rate monitor. Now I use it for much more. Just as recently as last week I realized I could track my pup from my watch. Not having to pull out the handheld every time is a time saver “not that’s it that hard in the first place “ but watching on the wrist speed and direction at a glance is great. I’ve put over 100 miles on the trail .. weather updates ,gps gym workouts . Garmin has a great product and pair very well with ease. Aruba to Alaska this watch is bulletproof.

second verse like the first!

Awesome watch, I got 6 years out of my first instinct 1.0 non solar watch before I decided to replace it. that watch, instinct version 1.0 still works great and still holds a charge normally. I am in construction and the first three years of wearing this watch was at work in a steel boat shipyard and the next three I wore in traditional construction sites before replacing with solar 2.0 version. I have lost track of how many times I have whacked, smashed and bashed both watches and they really do take a beating. I didn't think they could improve this watch and was hesitant about buying basically the same watch but that is not the case. the instinct version 2.0 is even better, faster, more data fields and activities...just buy it and get over it, you will be happy with it.

Compare to the citizen smartwatch, this is enough

I know I did bought the first citizen smart watch but to compare it, this Garmin smart watch is enough for me.I mean I don’t know if this is a real deal or not but at least it’s way more better than the citizen smart watch and forever it is truly a nice smart watch that I first saw on my wrist of hand. I think I love the sport style smart watch better than to some thing maybe it’s a way too much stuff but the citizen smart watch cannot get online for the long distance and the long hours of itself. Either way, I think I temporarily I have this one first but if there is any other choice of the Garmin, I’ll choose to see or consider to others of this brand. But if not, I’ll temporarily I’ll take this then. Thanks for the suggestion in the app of Treecard. I’m loving this smart watch. Thanks again !

I should have bought one years ago

I’ve been a long-term Apple Watch user and recently decided to try and adventure towards the Garmin watches after seeing some of the features. I should’ve switched over years ago because this Garmin watch has features that I didn’t know I wanted. There was so much activity and unnecessary additions on the Apple Watch that I wasn’t really using it. My Instinct has exactly what I need and never having to charge it is a huge plus. I work outside for eight hours a day so I never have to worry about plugging it in. I was having to take my Apple Watch off during lunch to do a quick 30 minute fast charge because it would drain due to all of the other things running in the background.

Perfect Fitness Watch

I bought this watch to replace my old Forerunner 910. Its connnectivity to the Garmin Connect app is seamless and the accessories you can add to track performance are more than enough for the average athlete. The metrics that are gathered are just right for the person who wants to track improvements, but does not want to get deep in the weeds in data. I am able to track many different sports which meets my needs. I do like that I can use a chest strap HR monitor in addition to the one one the watch, so I can mount it on my handcycle or kayak deck. The solar charging is a must have in my opinion

Love the watch and the pickup process was easy!

The Instinct 2 Solar is the perfect hybrid between a fitness watch and a smart watch. It's rugged, has a long-lasting battery, has all the sensors I would ever use for tracking activity, and is very comfortable to wear for long periods.

Instinct 2 Solar

Day one - I love the fit and feel of the the watch so far. I have worn heavier and bulkier watches like the Suunto Alpha Traverse/Vector/Core and the GShock Pathfinder for the past 12 years. The first thing I noticed about the Instinct 2 Solar is that’s it’s not as meaty and it’s much trimmer/not as rugged feeling as the previously mentioned LP watches. I’ll update in a few months once it have more mileage on it.

Good tool in the box. Battery life is decent, unlike Apple Watch. More durable as well. Requires phone connectivity for certain features ( weather, etc)
