Warm, Dry and Comfortable
I received these Pearl IZUMI bibs for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I really love how warm these bibs are. The front of the bib offers a wind stop and water repellant material. The inside of the bib is fleece to give you added warmth. The chamois is thick – perhaps a bit too thick for my comfort with my saddle on my bike. The back has reflective spots on the calf that makes you easier to see in low light. I found the front of bib, from the waist up to be a little high, making it difficult at bathroom stops. The bibs are labeled “form fitting” I suggest staying with your typical sizing. I sized up as with bibs I find I need the length for comfort. I should have stayed with my typical size, the straps were comfortable, but the mid-section is a little baggy. However, after a second washing I found the fit better. If you ride in weather below 40 to 45 degrees these are awesome, above this they are too warm. The coldest I used them was 30 degrees and I was very comfortable and I believe they will be good well below 30 degrees.
Great cold weather Bibs!!
This was my first time trying cycling bibs and the jury is still out for me if I will adopt from bike shorts, but can see the advantages in the colder weather. The cold hasn't fully came here in MN so I tried these out in 50s and they were plenty warm. They should easily be able to handle colder temperatures into the 30s with no issues. The inside fleece was very comfortable and warm on the ride. I used these for inside training ride and they were breathable even in warmer environment. The bib does come up higher on the front which help keeps your front warm in the colder weather and any wind riding up the jacket. The padded chamois was comfortable, but does have some bulk to it which I prefer. No soreness on any rides with them so far. There is some minor reflective markings which will be visible in the low light situations. I haven't ridden with them in the rain/water, but there is some water repellent features in case you get a minor splash or sprinkle. Overall they are a quality pair of cold weather bibs to help extend your riding season into the colder months.
high quality, comfortable bibs
Great full length cycling bibs from PEARL iZUMi. The upper bib material is very soft and stretchy which feels great next to skin. I felt no spots that rubbed or chaffed on longer rides. The chamois pad is comfortable without being noticeably bulky which is important to me! The material breaths well, allowing good temperature management if the day warms up. Reflective patches on the calves offer good nighttime visibility. I typically wear a medium and while this medium fit me well, if I was any taller I would probably want the next size up (I am 5'11)
I'm convinced...there are good cycling tights!
It's been a while since I have bought/worn tights. From my previous experience, I was certain that they provided no value whatsoever because I rarely found that they kept me warm. UNTIL NOW... These tights do an amazing job of keeping you warm, even in a cold headwind. The brushed fleece (pictured) is soft and replaces the uncomfortable nylon feel that I was familiar with from poorly designed tights. The chamois (pictured) is extremely comfortable and the reflective strips on the legs help to keep you safe. I'm now a believer in cycling tights and can throw out my fleece sweatpants that I had been wearing. If you've never cycled in tights before, you'll quickly recognize the advantages and these prove that there are good tights that can keep you warm and comfortable. Worth every penny.
Comfy, Warm, maybe a bit overbuilt
I really like these bibs. The material is extremely warm, almost feeling like neoprene, which does a great job blocking wind and keeping legs nice and toasty. I did a ride down in the mid 20's F with no issues. Shoulder straps are comfortable and unobtrusive. The chamois is a bit bulky for my tastes, but well shaped, comfortable, and gave me no grief for two hours in the saddle. I'm on the shorter side, so my size medium's legs are a bit long causing some bunching near my ankle, but not a deal breaker. I think a medium is the right size for my 31" waist, but I'd like the length to be right. These tights will be in the rotation all winter, just wish the chamois were a bit more low profile.
Nice, but runs way small.
The Temp is in the low 30's today so I went to see how these would perform, unfortunately I am 6'3" and can't get them up to my hips. I wear a 2X in sweats, shorts, lounge pants and snow pants and my legs are not particularly big, but these are incredibly small for a 2X. However, a couple of the things I notice are 1st- there is no fly for nature breaks and I wish the seat/butt pad was removable as I also ride an ICE recumbent trike and the pad is not needed. The material feels warm and comfortable and of high quality, the panels are well stitched and do not seem to rub on the skin. If you are under 6' and normally wear a large, the 2X would probably fit you just fine and you would be happy with these bibs. Now I am required to submit photos, but am going to have to come up with something G Rated since i can't get them all the way on... And They are very, very hard to get off. Attached are photos of the seat pad and the no-fly zone in front. These are things I would like to know before spending a lot of money on gear.
Perfect for cold weather!
I bike commute daily throughout the year, so when I heard about a thermal bib tight with a water repellant finish, I had to give them a shot. Now, I wonder how I have survived without them. The fleece lining has been super comfortable and warm in temperatures of 30-45 degrees. I'm confident I can use them well into the 20's. On two occasions, there was medium-light rain, and the water repellant finish held up quite well. My calves felt were dry, and my thighs where slightly damp but still quite warm and comfortable. The bib straps are light weight, don't bind in your shoulders, and keep you tights where they need to be.(From my experience, regular tights have a tendency to ride down your backside the longer you ride.) The chamois is on the thicker side, which I don't care for, but has been fine so far. My longest ride in these tights has been 20 miles without a hint of chamois chaffing. The bibs come up high in the front with a lightweight fleece material, which is actually quite clever, as it provides additional protection against cold drafts between your jacket and tights. The ergonomics of the leg panels are perfect as I have not detected any gathering of excess material or binding around my knees or hips. The reflective accents on the calves is a big plus for me as many of my commutes are in the dark. The fit is true to form. I have a 33-34 in. waist and the large is perfect. Any negatives? Getting out of them can be a challenge if they are a little damp due to the thick fabric. I'm really stoked to use these tights into the winter for commuting and fatbiking!
Awesome Cycling Bib Tights
This Pearl iZumi AmFIB Bib Tight is a great piece of gear. I was able to wear it on several low 40 degree days and a couple sub 40 degree days. My legs stayed comfortably warm. My face, hands, and toes were cold, but these bibs did their job very well. One day there was a light sprinkle and even then they kept me warm and dry. The rain balled up and shed right off the tights. Size was spot on for what I usually wear. The chamois is ample and made the rides extremely comfortable. I have several other Pear iZumi items, they are always well constructed and designed. This was a great addition to my cycling gear.
Not that great
Not that great. The bib tights certainly don't live up to the $200+ price tag. Firstly, the size is way off. I am usually a small (5'7", 140 lbs), but the "small" is way too small - and I like my bibs tight and compressive. Secondly, the design could do with an ankle zipper to help with getting into them. As it is designed right now, it is a huge struggle to slip your feet through the less than stretchy AmFIB material. Thirdly, I am not a fan of the AmFIB fabric. It's not soft-to-the-touch, and irritates my skin. Maybe if the tights were cheaper, I could overlook the less-than-luxurious fabric I was expecting for this price point. Anyways, there are way better choices out there for +$200. These may be worth it if they were on sale.
Runs Very Small
I normally wear medium-large clothes: 5’10”, 190#. However, this item runs super small for sizing. I could barely get the bib around my legs, and no chance of getting it all the way on. Recommend sizing way up or trying on in-store
