New looser fit is a big bummer + a tad hazardous
Loved all my previous down sweaters, but not this one. This jacket is wildly different: the sizing is wildly different, even from my newer 2020 model. The sleeves have no elastic. The sleeves are so loose they resemble the fit of a bathrobe. The loose sleeves have resulted in a few dangerous situations during outdoor activities, sliding down over my hands, etc. Only wish I had read the reviews before replacing. For those considering buying this version of the jacket for casual wear, be aware you won't stay warm because cold air, rain or any weather element finds its way up and INTO the loose sleeve. What a bummer, not sure who at Patagonia greenlit this design, but hope they read all the review and make some adjustments. Will need to return and purchase an REI model for the interim.
New Style, new problems
This updated version of the down sweater is puzzling. First the positive the jacket is a bit longer in the back which to me is a bonus so when you move around or bend over your body stays covered. The negatives: Not at all warm below 50F, bleeds feathers like crazy, wrist has no elastic (which was present in previous versions) so any wind easily compromises the jacket and reduces its ability to keep you warm. Overall given the increased price tag over the older version this update is a huge miss. I have cheaper jackets with a similar fit that keep me warmer and dont have any of the aforementioned issues.
3 Years, Still Going Strong
I can’t say enough good things about this jacket. I’ve owned it for about three years now and it’s still as warm and tough as the day I bought it. It’s accompanied me on week-long backcountry trips, weekend-warrior camp outings, cold fall hikes, casual city strolls and everything in between. In really cold temps, it’s still easy to layer and the internal chest pocket is great for keeping a snack from freezing on a cold hike. It can be rolled up into about the size of a 40oz bottle and still retains its puff and warmth after being unrolled which makes it great for when you need to add or shed layers when you’re outside. I’m 6’2” and 180lbs and the medium fits me perfectly.
Great jacket - but color doesn’t match!
This is the 4th Patagonia jacket we’re buying and love it, BUT - be aware that the sedge green color does NOT match the picture at all. It still works, but I was a bit disappointed that it was much more faded and dull.
Nice Needed Updates
2024 jacket has the elastic back at the end of the sleeve cuff. The jacket is a little roomier than previous versions.
Comfy but fragile and leaks down like crazy
Pros: Stylish, packs down well, comfy and warm. Cons: Unbelievably fragile and leaks down everywhere. It’s a nice jacket, but definitely not worth the price. Patagonia usually is known for their quality, but this is really surprising in it’s poor craftsmanship. I bought it a year ago and with moderate use there are now dozens of spots it is leaking down. I sent it in to be restitched but they said there was nothing they could do. Very disappointed considering the price point.
Fragile Lining – Disappointed
I’m disappointed with the quality of the lining. It’s extremely fragile—I noticed two holes after gently pulling out a few feathers. I’ve only had this jacket for five days and have used it lightly for city walking. If feathers poke through, I’d recommend pulling from the opposite side to avoid damaging the lining. The quality is too bad for a jacket at this price.
Warm Jacket, But Questionable Quality
I bought a precious model of the down sweater. Loved the looks but the filling started to come out after about a month of regular use. Fabric also rips easily so I feel like I have to pamper it more than some of my other jackets. For example, I have an Arcteryx jacket I have been wearing for a few years and no rips. I’ve had it less than a year and I already have a couple patches on it.
Use to be a great jacket
No elastic in the cuffs whatsoever. Cold air blows in but worse than that is the sleeves slide down over your hand. Very uncomfortable and difficult to perform everyday tasks like using a door knob or holding your phone. How this jacket made it out of development without elastic in the sleeves is perplexing. Hard pass on this one guys.
Warm but fragile
Overall I really liked this jacket, feels like good quality but after just a year I have gotten so many tears and pin holes in the back of the jacket. If it gets snagged on anything it’s probably gonna get a tear. I have a lot of black electrical tape covering holes right now so that is disappointing.
