Comfortable
I have not tested in the water or on the trail yet. I plan to take them on a 4 day kayak trip in June, will test them before that and update this review. They are comfortable and roomy. Easy to get on with and without socks. I could see wearing these as water shoes and around camp once off the water. I bought them for their advertised versatility. I plan to use these on trips that require portages and maybe some short day hiking. Size: they fit as expected. I usually buy a women's US 9.5, I ordered the 10 and it is a bit more roomy than I would like but the 9 would have been too short. The toe box is unrestricting with and without socks.
Hydro moc in the rain forest!
Love love love these shoes. Just bought a second pair for me, and a pair for my two year old. I went hiking, in the rain forest, in mine. They held up amazingly well. My only complaint, if I had one, was that they were a bit slippery when they got wet on the inside. I dried them out with a shirt and they were good to go. We got up to 211ft in elevation and I had no problem with hurt feet or swollen ankles. They were better then I could’ve expected!
Odd fit. Don't size down!
I sized down based on several reviews -- I'm an 8 1/2 and was originally going to get a 9, but I read the reviews and got an 8. Way too small! My toes were scrunched up, I think in part because the front curls up so much. I may try a 9, but that may make them too wide, as they were already very wide in an 8. I probably would suggest any potential buyer just try these shoes on at a store rather than ordering them online -- they're odd enough of a fit that I think it makes the most sense.
Comfy and stylish
I got these as a birthday gift recently and I am OBSESSED. I was originally going to use them as house shoes but they’re SO comfy I wear them everywhere. I have really slim feet so crocs never fit me but these fit like a glove, plus I love the arch support. I also love that they don’t slip off of my feet even tho they are roomy. I’ve also gotten sooo many compliments and I’ve only had them for 4 days. I’m definitely going to order a second pair just because. I’ve always loved Merrell and I knew they wouldn’t disappoint but they definitely know what they’re doing with the Hydro Moc.
Thank you for the awesome review!
Pleasantly surprised
I was looking for lightweight camp shoes to replace my Keen water sandals (that weigh over a pound). I have fussy feet/ankles and need something that is comfortable, stable to wear barefoot or with socks, and can hold up to water crossings and possibly uneven footing. I've only tried these on at home so far, but am pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are, with or without socks. They feel stable and stay on my feet well, even without the heel strap. Not sure how they'll do on tricky water crossings (I might still bring my Keens if I anticipate those), but I believe they'll be great around camp and weigh just over half the weight of my old shoes. I'll be able to find them easily with the very bright color, too! (These shoes won't win any fashion contests:-))
Get them!
Comfortable and so durable! Size down though, I ordered a size 7, because I’m a 6.5 and they were too big. So had them exchanged and got a size 6, love the exchange feature too!
What kind of sizing system is this?
I have average width low volume feet, so these seemed like a better fit than the ubiquitous "alligator-brand" alternatives. I normally wear a 8W and according to the size chart and foot length measurement, I ordered a W's 7. They arrived and my feet (even in thick wool socks) are absolutely swimming in these shoes! About 1.5 cm. A W's 6 will probably be too long, too. Size at least two sizes down. I AM going to break my neck in these. As for quality, somewhat lower than expected. You can tell where the molds especially around the holes which aren't fully cut out. Eventually the edges will wear down, so I'm not too worried about that part.
We're sorry you Hydro Mocs didn't meet your expectations, but we appreciate your feedback.
I wanted to love it!
I wear a size 11 running shoe and had read the reviews of them running large but went ahead and ordered 11 anyway because people who wear half sizes ended up ordering down. I thought they were a bit too large so also ordered the 10s to compare and would send back the ones that didn't fit. Well, the 10s were a bit too small...my toe was right to the edge. I really, really wanted them to work because I loved them but I was afraid the 11s would slip off if I were walking in water or stuck in mud so I ended up returning both. If they were a bit narrower I think I could have gotten by with the 11s but it was not to be. I'm bummed. I need a between size!
Perfection
I bought these so I would have a water friendly shoe to hike in, that would also be easy in and off. I’m pregnant, so lacing how my hiking shoes isn’t going to be feasible for much longer. These are amazing! They’re easy to get on and off, have so much arch support, and don’t make my feet sweaty. I’m usually a 7-7.5 wide, for a seven in these, and they fit perfectly. There is so much room in the toe box, and they’ve been comfortable from day one. I leave the moveable piece forward for every day, and flip it back for more stability on longer hikes and walks. Are they pretty? No, but they don’t need to be; their function makes up for it.
Awesome! We're so glad they're working out for you! Thanks for the 5 stars!
Not an accurate fit
I wear a size 9 W in D width (most women’s shoes are a B width) and these were quite spacious on my larger than average size 9 foot. They are ok with socks but I purchased to wear them on the rocky beach at low tide. They are true to size if you were to wear them as a dry hiking shoe but the heel slides all over the back and they ripped up my Achilles heel very badly so I still have the injury two weeks later. I rinsed off my sandy feet in a beach shower and when I was walking to my car the wet material combined with poor sizing destroyed the back of my foot. Would need to order a whole size down for this to be an actual water shoe.
