I watched a few videos on setting up, which made it pretty easy for two people. I'm sure I'll be able to set it up on my own now. Love the height, love the ventilation. It's a well-made tent with quality stitching and taping (where needed). I do have a couple of minor quibbles. No front panel, other than the mesh - there is no privacy without dropping the vestibule. The stock tent stakes are useless in anything other than soft grass, but I guess that's the case with most tents. Just get some quality stakes and you're all set.
I love this tent so much! Used it for a 3-day weekend so far and am looking forward to many more. We had one day of hard rain and everything stayed nice and dry. I love the vestibule as it provides a perfect place to store things like shoes and keeps the tent clean. The fly zips open by the tent screens providing great ventilation. Also, some reviews complain about the storage pockets being in the back door. Yes, they’re in the door, but there are 4 other storage pockets as well - plenty for all your stuff. The tent is easy to set up, although I did have to watch some videos as directions are worthless. I practiced twice at home prior to the trip and had no problems.
Purchased this tent to replace a big Agnes that my dog decided to eat. I have several tents from canvas outfitters to small one man for backpacking. This north face seemed a good compromise for a base camp tent to put a cot into, just fits even if snug. I was initially concerned for the lack of a full fly but I have used 3 times now and the last trip it rained a lot and stayed dry, if there were 30 MPH winds and rain might get some moisture but one would survive. For some reason it seems difficult to get the fly when windy, might be the design or fabric weight, I just dried out and repacked and this time the fly is positioned on the tub so might be more easy to figure out which end goes where. The carry bag just does not allow to put the full tent in and zippered, I just put some rope arround to keep together. Been pretty happy so far and hope to keep the dog away from.
Last night my family went camping for the first time in 5 years, as night approached my wife and 3 year old decided to spend some time in the tent as it was approaching my little one's bed time. All of a sudden I heard creak and snapping sound and before I could comprehend what was happening I saw a tree limb break and fall directly onto my North Face Wawona 4-Person Tent. The limb bent the poles of my tent and ripped two holes onto the side of the tent. We are thankful to the high quality materials of this tent for deflecting the tree limb and saving us from what could have been a life ending event.
Camped with this for the first time over the weekend in the wind and rain. We were nervous that it would leak given the partial rainfly, however, we stayed completely dry and the tent barely shook in the wind - even with the extra height. There was a good amount of condensation in the morning though, but that's not really all that unexpected since it was closed up due to the storm. It's definitely not big enough for 4 people, but there is more than enough room for 2, and would likely work well for 3. The green color is very nice without being obnoxious. You do have to go outside to open the side windows, which is a bit annoying. I also don't like that you have to buy the front porch and footprint separately. The front porch was kind of difficult to use for the Wawona 4, whereas it's built-in and presumably easier to set up for the Wawona 6.
Decided to buy some cots so we could actually get some sleep so of course that required a new, larger tent. Tent was so easy to put up…done in under 5 minutes. We have two oversized cots and the fit great with plenty of room in between. Tent is tall so my 6’1” can stand up in the center comfortably.
Nice big tent. Good color scheme. I am 6 foot and I can stand up straight in the tent. Fits four comfortably.
Bought this to replace a 3-man; use it for one person, and it is a mansion. I use a single cot along one side and have a chair and couple of storage containers (which double as a table) on the other. Have used for 2 weekends now in Maine, one quite cold and one with a pouring rainstorm, and the tent performed beautifully for both. Used the extra tent tiedowns in wind. I bought the footprint. Not sure why storage on the back door is such an issue---why use the back door? Haven't had cause to notice the airiness in hot weather yet, but I noticed it in the COLD weather, LOL. Bonus: the cheery color of the interior mesh is a delight to wake up to. Oh---also---I was super surprised to discover that one-person setup is quite easy! Easier than my similar-style 3-man tent!
We used this tent for the first time this weekend. It's easy to put together and easy to tear down, plenty spacious, and durable. We were able to fit our queen size sleeping pad in the center of the tent with space for our gear on each side of us. We likely wouldn't have been able to fit another person, but our sleeping pad is larger than average. We could easily stand up and the gear storage is super useful. The ONLY thing that annoys me is that there are pockets built into the back door. While I love having those pockets, you can't open the door without stuff falling out. We upgraded from an $80 Coleman tent to this, so it's possible that it feels like the Taj Mahal just because of the massive jump up in quality. But this tent is truly great.
We replaced an REI Kingdom 4 tent with the 2020 version of this tent and my goodness are we happier now. We've been camping for almost two months in it and here's what we've learned. The good: The ventilation is amazing. When we were in the hot Utah desert we opened the vents and had great air flow. Though it's tall it did fine with some high winds (</=30mph). We did remove the poles when the winds gusted to 40+mph and covered the tent then weighted it down with some rocks until the storm passed. It retains decent heat in cold weather. We slept comfortably with our two-person big agnes bag and megamat duo though our water bottle froze overnight. A small, close tent is much warmer, but this is much better than the Kingdom at both venting when it's hot and keeping heat in when it's cold. It's incredibly easy to set up and quick to take down and is super lightweight for its size. The bad: During a surprise snowstorm with more high winds, the backdoor rainfly allowed snow to blow into the tent through the ceiling mesh. I used a chip clip to pinch the fly to the lip of the tent and that solved the issue. We've not had a big rainstorm to see if it'll be an issue with rain as well. The storage bag is weird and doesn't contain the tent/fly completely. I don't know why they did that. If we wrap the tent, fly and poles in the footprint it's better, but still not secure enough to toss around.
