Great pants for working outdoors that actually fit
Jen R
I am an archaeologist that works in extreme conditions outdoors. These pants fit well and have held up to everything I have subjected them to. I have been scratched with large mesquite thorns that drew blood and the pants were fine (no tears or holes). They have also got caught on barb wire and easily came off without tearing. They are comfortable in a warm climate. I have also worn them with a light weight base layer in a temps as low as 25 degrees. An added bonus is they wash well and so far none of them have been stained by the red and black clay mud I have been digging in. I am extremely happy with the pants and now own 5 pairs. My only complaint is the design of the cinch at the bottom legs of the pants. They need to be redesigned as the current cinch mechanism is terrible. The strings on a few pairs are too long and I have to cinch the pants tighter at the bottom so the string does not come out. On other pairs the small plastic piece that is used to hold the string cinched comes off of one side, which is annoying when you are trying to dress in a hurry. I ended up tying the strings and cut them shorter to make life easier. Other than this issue these pants are great. I wear a size 12 short and they fit great.

The most recent pair I received fit larger and looser than the ones I purchased a year ago. They are less flattering and even the 2 is far too big, especially considering how much this fabric stretches throughout the day.

Great pant for long backpacking trips!

I bought these for backpacking and really needed something technical, quick drying, water resistant and durable. These fit the bill! I took them on a 10 day backpacking trek around Mt Rainier and they held up really well. Lots of brushy areas where the water hit my lower legs. A lot of it pilled up and didn't soak in, but even when certain areas made the lower pant wet it dried quickly. They stretched easily when I needed to climb up some larger boulders or steps. The cinch on the bottom cuff was really helpful for keeping extra wind/moisture out. My only complaint was that they seem to pill easily in areas like the front upper leg where my backpack straps hung down and were in frequent contact rubbing that area. I may be able to shave those off with a fabric razor. Also I could have sworn these were black in color but they are very much a dark blue when held up to something that is a true black.

Finally outdoor pants that feel and fit SO well!

Finally outdoor pants that feel and fit so well! I am a canyoneering, climbing and hiking guide and I usually resort to wearing leggings or shorts since outdoor pants usually fit me very poorly. For reference I am 5'0", 136lb with a curvy/athletic bottom. My boyfriend wears these all the time guiding and I was getting jealous of how comfy they look and how long they've lasted him (years). Bought my first pair and they fit me wonderfully (short size) and they are breathable, light, and I don't have to keep adjusting it (the drawstring and button combined are perfect). When my boyfriend saw my in them he said WOW they look GOOD! Haha!

I want to live in these

These are the most comfortable, well fitting hiking pants I have ever found. Period. The fabric is soft and super light, stretch is awesome, abrasion resistance is very good (hiking through - and falling in - heavy overgrown shrubs yielded no snags or abrasions whatsoever). I find them to be warm as well - hiking in 50-55 degree fall weather with light winds was comfortable. I was worried that the inseam (stated at 31.5') would be too short - I have a 32" inseam, but the length was perfect. I could seriously wear these every.single.day - I like these so much I got 4 pair, and if I could find my size in black, I'd have 5.

Great Job!!! Love The Update!

This updated Ferrosi Pant is much better than the pair I purchased back in 2018. Love the pockets, the thigh pocket can fit my iPhone 8+. Women need pockets or at least I do so this is a great addition. Comfortable to wear while hiking and all other activities. Stretchy and made well. The best part is how versatile these pants are, wear outdoors or wear into town for dinner. I love Pants that are dual purpose. Great job Outdoor Research!!!

Pilled and torn within the first week

After reading some reviews (e.g., "I'm an archeologist and these held up forever out in the field!") I had higher hopes for the Ferrosi pants than they bore out. I purchased them before a multi-day backpacking trip. I like the way they feel, though the material is thin enough that even keeping a hair tie in my pocket resulted in the outline of a circle on my thigh. I was disappointed to find a pull in the fabric on my first day wearing them (during which I rode a train--there was no major activity), but figured it was just bad luck. Then, a few days into the trip I realized that the material was pilling around the waist/fly. My backpack waist straps weren't hitting it, so it wasn't that--I still don't know what did that. And then I took a spill on the trail and tore a hole in the seat of the pants. (Not likely the pants fault, but thicker fabric would've held up better, I suspect.) In general I like these, but not enough to buy another.

Great durability for field work

Im a wildlife biologist and I’ve taken these pants through some of the toughest bushwhacking field work I’ve ever had to do in my career and they have held up! Couple of snags here and there but no major rips or tears which is astonishing with some of the terrain I’ve been through. They’re light, comfy and fit just right. Im in between sizes 16/18 and wanted to make sure my field pants had breathing room. I went with the 18W and they fit perfectly, need like 10 more pairs!

Highly recommend!

I love these pants! I tried on many hiking pants and couldn't find any that really fit well. I'm a heavy lifter so I have more curves than what some pants allow. I have about a 30" waist and about 40" hips. These pants look great on me AND bend really well. They're stretchy and water resistant (the water beads off). They are very thin, so they're not made for winter but I put on my thermal leggings underneath to keep warm. I'll probably wear them all year round if given the chance. I've had these for about 2 months and I would buy them again in a heartbeat. I wear these with a belt just for personal preference. They're stretchy, look good and feel like they'd last for a while. Great for curvier women and allow you to bend/ squat down without the waist slipping down your bottom.

Almost perfect!

I was on a mission to find some comfortable plus size field pants that fit well. These are the best so far BY FAR, and I am grateful to OR to be making some great plus size clothing. However, I do have a few comments in case modifications will be made: I don't like the shank-style closure at the top of the zipper--the fabric is thin enough that the shank pulls sideways. I'd prefer a button, snap, or snaps. The waist does stretch out, so I appreciate the drawstring, but a built-in belt would be even better. (There are "gathers" because the drawstring is narrow compared to the waistband.). Three belt loops in back would help if I choose to wear a belt.

Crashed a dirtbike and they look new

I skidded on my side about 8 feet after crashing a dirtbike going way faster than I had any right to, and the pants look new. I don’t know if the current fabric is the same as these, but I bought them about seven years ago, wore them hiking, and then decided to take up dirt biking last Saturday (you are correct, these are not appropriate pants for that sport). The side of my leg that I landed on is covered in baseball-sized black and green bruises, and I do have broken skin. The pants are untouched. I have no idea how. OR you killed it
