Monocular is great, accessories meh

This is a cute and practical monocular, and it works well. It's easy to hold, thanks to the grippy texture and the asymmetric design. The focus knob is positioned so it's easy to turn with your thumb or middle finger of the same hand you're holding it with, and the feel is just right. It has no slack, and stays where you put it. 8x32 is just the right lens for it. It's nice and bright, and long enough to see good detail, but still short enough that you can handhold with one hand. 10x gets too shaky for me. The packaging is very nice: plain cardboard. (No plastic clamshells!) They don't seem to label the outside of the box, though, so the poor REI employee has to open every box to find the right color. That also explains why some people who bought online got the wrong one. What's not so great? The strap is a teeny buckle which is always flopping around and starting to undo itself. Every other device I own has solved this by using a solid loop, to girth-hitch through a hole. I don't know why Nocs went with an obviously inferior design. At least it's easy to replace. It comes with a small thin bag which doesn't seem to provide any real protection to the lenses. It would have been nice to have some kind of lens cap option. Need to find a better case. I wish it had a belt clip. (They sell a quick-release plate, but it costs as much as the monocular itself!) There is a 1/4-20 thread, though, so I can always make one myself. The gadget itself is great. You just might want to replace all the accessories. But I think it's still the best monocular in this price range.

Works fine until it doesn't. The first one I had had a little dirt or grit in the mechanism. Just sitting in my pack, not rolling on the ground. As I tried to move the focus wheel the connector snapped and they were toast. I reached out to the company and they sent me a replacement. This one got wet in my pack 1st trip out and is now ruined. Have been trying to get a replacement for over a month with no response. Emailed and ghosted. Called the phone number, voicemail box was full and no response. Be aware the zoom tube is not only not waterproof (which they say if you understand the IPX ratings) but they are highly susceptible to water and dirt intrusion. Was hopeful but I'd save your money and pick a different brand! The warranty isn't much use if they don't answer...

Handy zoom to tell what you're looking at

This is a very handy device to have on a walk. It fits nicely in my hand and has a very convenient focus knob. I have been using it to look at birds and squirrels in the city. It is also useful to look at ships and mountains. While walking at the beach, the zoom this provides makes it easier to tell if there is sea life or if the dark spot is just driftwood. It seems pretty durable as I have already dropped it once. The wrist strap is a nice feature, but is not as secure as I would like it to be.

Good for bird watching, great for fieldwork!

This is my first monocular telescope and I was really happy with the level of zoom for the size and weight. It's just a bit longer than a highlighter and probably smaller than the diameter of a small energy drink. It's really lightweight which made it great for adults and kids to use. The single knob for focus was easy enough to manipulate even with a gloved hand. The description says it's water resistant but I haven't tested it in inclement weather. One great thing about this scope is the ability to add the photo rig and microscope to get lots of varied use out of it. Personally having/using the scope is great, but the ability to connect it to my phone for micro or telescopic images is wonderful!

Carries anywhere

I really love this little monocular. Nice and small, armor coated for good grip and the focus knob is right on top where you need it. Also, anytime you carry a glass, other people want a look. Most don't know how to focus binocs, and get frustrated. With this little beast, there's only one knob so adjustments are quick and returning it to your preference is easy. These are pretty good in low light and are a good general use glass. I haven't tried any of the add ons yet. Im trying to keep it simple.

Very useful for adventuring

Bought these for my husband in February. He really enjoys it and the green color is very nice. It is so easy to carry around when we are walking, hiking or even cycling to watch birds. We've liked the zoom tube so much, I bought one for myself. The only reason for the 4-star review is because on my husbands monocular the gold lettered NOCS end cap where you change the focus has fallen off. It doesn't affect how the product functions, it is just an unfortunate quality issue considering the cost.

Great for bird and nature watching.

I picked up these monoculars today from REI. I think it's a really good value for the money. It has a really nice feel to it and the magnification seems appropriate for nature watching. Another other reviewer sayd that it's basically the same magnification as the naked, this is simply not true, I pointed it at signs that I can't read with naked eyes and when I use the tube I am able to read very small type. If you want more magnification go for the 10X but you will have to pay almost double the size, I am happy with the 8X.

Great, but beware included strap.

I bought this to avoid having to pack bulky binoculars on vacation. I now prefer this to my Celestron binoculars, even though the binoculars have a larger field of view. The light weight and ease of use just make this monocular so enjoyable to use that I don’t mind the smaller field of view. This monocular remained fog free when the humidity fogged up my binoculars. The only downside was the included strap. It unraveled while I was using my monocular at Bryce Canyon National Park. I feel very fortunate this happened on a sidewalk before I got to the overlook, because it could have tumbled to the bottom. Despite the drop on the concrete, my monocular is fine with no sign of damage. I now have the neck strap, which is fortunately much better quality!

Great but no lens caps.

Like others, I find this monocular perfectly useful for its intended purpose. It’s for outback sighting purposes, not birdwatching or sightseeing in my case. I went with a monocular for packability, and while greater magnification could be useful, not essential for the extra $$ it would necessitate, My biggest complaint is the lack of lens caps. The baggy they provide is a nuisance, and in fact I have already lost it in less than six months. Lens caps are essential for protection of the lenses and transport, and it neither comes with lens caps, nor are lens caps easily found for this unit. I would take off kore stars for that alone, but I am being generous with 4 because the monocular itself is good for the price.

Works great, exceeds expectations

Mine works great, optics crisp, no complaints and exceeded expectations. I love the ergonomics, the bump-out with the focus knob also works to help steady it, and having the focus knob separate from the eyepiece I find much more functional. It is bigger than I expected, but I and other family members find it easy to hold, steady, and zero in on your subject. I like that it has a tripod mount for a camera tripod or monopod/walking stick. I previously had a LL Bean monocular that pales in comparison to the Nocs. My only quibble is that it only comes with a wrist band and not a neck lanyard (I swapped one off my former monocular). A great way to spend your dividend or use with the annual anniversary sale discounts.

Amazing monocular for $75!

We purchased this binocular today at REI. It is an amazing value for $75. The 8x magnification is perfect for camping trips or hikes in the Rocky Mountains here in Colorado. Our two sons, both US Marines, are also very impressed with the quality of this item. I highly recommend it!
