Comfortable pack on first use. Hiked 8 miles into Minum Lodge, OR and couldn’t have been happier with the performance of the pack. The suspended mesh liner kept things comfortable on my back. Well engineered sizing and fit worked very well. Had plenty of room for four days clothing and fishing gear including waders, wading boots, rod, reel and tackle. Did not carry a tent or cooking gear on this trip as the lodge provided that. Also purchased the Osprey 2 liter bladder. All worked very well. Highly recommended.
I am new to backpacking and this is my first pack. I did alot of research and decided on this one. My plan is to do mostly weekend overnights. I have not fully loaded my pack yet but just took a 3 mile test hike with elevation changes of 300'. Temp was about 85 degrees. Pack was well balanced (about 20 lbs), comfortable and most importantly the ventilation was the most impressive. this is a great pack but the newest model does not come with the flap jacket like older models did. Most review videos you see on the web are of older models and show this feature but is not a problem for me. I highly recommend this pack. I am 5'10" 230lbs. pack fits like a glove and it truly never slowed me down
Super comfortable, like it’s not even on your back. More than sufficient space for my use. Excellent ventilation on the back, I noticed a distinct sweat decline.
This pack relaxed my 20 year old REI Flash50. I was packing for a weekend trip in Uwharrie NF and I ripped a seam. Off to REI I went for a last minute pack purchase. This Osprey pack is the pack of packs. It’s only 50 liters but a perfect size for me of up to a week or so. It is excellent quality and it is obvious from the get go. The lower sleeping bag pouch fits my Kammok Mantis perfectly. The side pockets have both horizontal and vertical access which is great for water bottles. It took me about all of the first day to get the back adjusted properly but once it’s set you’re good to go. The back webbing provides for excellent airflow and allows the load to conform to your body. I love this bag, I should have bought it years ago. As usual, the staff at REI Pineville (Kurt) were awesome and helped guide me through the selection and fit. I’ll be using this bag for a long time.
Just finished about 50 miles trek in Himalayas and this backpack provided just the right amount of space and support at hip. Adjustable straps were extremely helpful while trekking down (lonest I trekked was 15 miles and 200m meters down) - at no point I felt any soreness on my solders and any balancing issues.
Just finally got to use this pack for a 3 day, 2 night hike on the at with my girlfriend. It didn’t squeak at all, didn’t need much adjusting, held my belongings securely, and most importantly it was comfortable! The mesh outter most pocket began to stretch a bit too which was good because that pocket was very very tight at first
Very comfortable and durable! Held everything I needed and integrated well with the osprey bladder.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The atmos ag 50/65 is THE BEST backpacking pack out there hands down. I personally use the 50 L and it is the perfect size for 1-3 night trips. It is extremely comfortable with around 30lbs of gear. I love the sleeping bag pocket on the bottom of the pack, absolute necessity and only a feature on the atmos AG NOT the atmos LT. The removable lid is also a welcome feature when you’re trying to go lightweight.
This is one of the most critical pieces of gear from my 2023 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. Before I had picked any of my other gear, I knew my pack would be an Osprey. It didn't take much research to settle on the Atmos 50. This thing is a beast and could handle anything I threw at it or in it during my hike. The best feature is the one everybody already knows well: the airspace and ergonomic curvature that perfectly forms to your back. Furthermore, this distributes weight very efficiently, allowing your hips to bear more of the burden and relieve your shoulders. Other features I love include the waist pouches where I stored quick access items like my multi-tool and hand sanitizer, the included rain fly for quick rain protection, and the angular water bottle holders on each side where I had quick and convenient access to my one liter Smartwater bottles. I even made regular use of the two pockets in the brain portion. The interior dimensions are sufficient to fit a bear vault of the largest size turned sideways. There are straps on the bottom end of the pack that frequently held my tent, though you could also extend the top straps for the brain and store your tent under there too. The shoulder straps are thick and comfortable. I was able to attach a phone pouch on one and regularly attached my umbrella to the other. The materials are rugged. Despite all the use and abuse, scraping on trees and rocks, repetitive motion abrasion, weather exposure, and slinging around, the pack held up well without failure for 2,000 miles. There are probably adjustments I could have made to reduce weight, as this comes in at 4.2 lb. This while most thru-hiking packs in the ultralight category are less than half of that. With Osprey you're getting two extra pounds of comfort, in a sense. Alternatively, they do have the Exos 58 that weighs less. Also, regarding sizing, I think osprey could improve by separating them out into four: S, M, L, and XL. Other lesser known UL brands do this, so I would think osprey could handle it. This is my only real "complaint". All around, Osprey is, in my book, the best backpack maker in existence.
I like nearly everything about this pack. The positioning and space of all the compartments is absolutely perfect, and it definitely distributes weight very effectively even for heavy loads. I do wish the shoulder straps had a bit more padding around the armpit area though. Definitely starts to hurt/pinch/bruise after about that ninth or tenth mile. Note, I tend to carry about 35 pounds.
