The perfect campfire ANYWHERE and ANYTIME
After several overland camping trips in areas where there were burn bans in effect I realized I needed a better way to have a campfire. After researching several portable propane firepits I decided to purchase the IGNIK Firecan! It has been the biggest game changer and I use it in my vehicle for camp trips, concert tailgating, cooking on the trail and even at home in the backyard. It has been a tried and true piece of gear that I don’t leave home without! Now going on 2 years of use I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a portable and reliable way to have a controlled smoke free camp fire!
Love the unit - Missing heat diffuser
The unit is well made. No sharp edges or complicated parts. Legs fold down without pushing a button and stay up when carried by the handle. Coating is nice. Regulator allows really fine control of the flame output, which makes it nice to be able to hold your hand directly above it comfortably. Wish it had a built in igniter but not having one is fine, one less failure point. I knocked two starts off because the video on REI here and the manual it comes with advertises a heat diffuser for this model that is not included or available. I contacted the manufacturer, Ignik, and they said it should be available for purchase next year 'due to supply chain shortages, we wished to include it but couldn't'. I'm looking at having to build my own version of the heat diffuser, because I don't want to cover the burner in fire glass or lava rocks as they'll rattle around. This would be a perfect 5-star review if it was included or available for purchase now. Without the heat diffuser the flames are ... meh. Looks like 29 individual flames instead of a nice fire. It gets HOT too. Put it on a fire mat and let it go for a while, then checked the fire mat temp and it hadn't even been noticeably warmed.
It's an acceptable compromise.
I don't care for propane fires, but sometimes it's the only choice - like at tailgates and well, all summer as of late. So far, it appears to be well made. I expect it will last a long time. It's small, so it packs up nicely, but that means it also makes a very small fire. It does not come with lava rocks, so you have to buy them separately. The flame is pretty lame without rocks. If you're not worried about saving space and packing lightly, get a bigger one. If you want something compact and don't mind a small fire, this works very well.
Not enough heat for me
A very good little fire pit, but it lacked lava rocks or a diffuser and I had to purchase those separately, which Should be included for the price. It didn’t put out the heat I would have liked it to either. I really liked the build it was solid. But decided to return because of the previous mentioned faults. Probably be ok if you are solo camping
Definitely good build quality.
The build quality of this product is great and I would have given it 5 stars except for 2 things. First the diffuser did not come with it. After reading reviews, I knew this would be the case but I bought it anyway knowing I could easily make one. That said, Ignik could also easily have tossed one in the box. The other reason it misses a star is that I feel this unit could and should have an igniter. There is a hole in the side that’s beat used with either a long lighter or match. Lighting from the top with a regular lighter could result in serious injuries. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase and I will be even happier after a couple modifications.
Super compact and easy to use.
Been able to use this little guy a handful of times now. It's easy to setup and provides lots of heat. Used it in the backyard to add light and heat for a get together, but cant wait to have it for lunches and drinks at the ski resort. Aprés going to be all time! Way better than the big rv style ones.
Great for burn bans
Have used it several times so far this summer. Car camping, at home in the back yard, and with our camper. Fun for the kids to use for s'mores. Had a grate for another stove the fits on the top and have boiled water on it a few times too. Would suggest getting something to defuse the heat/flame a bit to increase the way the heat radiates. Otherwise it just goes straight up. Have a few lava rocks that i use, but will be upgrading to some fake logs to give the full campfire experience. Doesn't use propane too fast either. The little nipple that the hose attached to does protrude a bit. So afraid for bending it, wish that had a little more protection.
I love this thing!
The design is really sweet and loosely based on the size and function of an Army ammo case. The legs provide tons of stability and fold out of the way for tidy storage. Construction is bomber and the powder-coat finishes are durable. The fuel hose stores neatly inside the unit when not in use. It also provides ample working distance between the FireCan and fuel source. I imagined using this on the back deck as well as camping. It turns out that I use it a lot more often than I anticipated whenever I want some instant heat and atmosphere (working in the yard, at the kids sporting events, etc). The FireCan throws more heat than I thought it would but it's also easy to dial-back the flames to conserve fuel. I'm REALLY looking forward to purchasing one of their fuel growlers as it will make this set-up even easier to tote around. I haven't had any issues lighting it up in the breeze or even a light rain. Wondering why it took so long for something like this to come to market!
Amazing So Far!
I have used this mity little guy for just 1 trip, but we had some incredibly windy conditions. I am happy to report the Ignik fired up 1st try and stayed lit the 1st night with winds well over 25mph. Another larger propane firepit was also present, but it would not stay lit and was very hard to get going even for just a few moments. The Ignik shined that 1st night. The 2nd night we got to test the heat it throws off with way less wind. It provided enough heat for 6 of us under an easy-up style structure and produced a very good looking flame with about a dozen 2-4" fire stones put in to fill about 1/3 the total inside height. Highly suggest this unit to make your camping easier, cheaper in the long run, and help stop Wildfires.
Awesome Fire Pit!
I took this FirePit with me dispersed camping. Worked flawlessly. Everyone loved it and asked where they could get one. There was no need for us to look for wood so less to carry. Didn’t smell like a campfire when we went to bed. The only thing I would improve is recessing the quick disconnect for the gas so that it could be stored without the possibility of breaking off. I personally put it back in the box that it came with for safe storing. The rocks didn’t come with the pit but highly suggest getting them for a more active flame. Price point seems a little hefty until you see the quality and enjoy the compactness, and ambience!
