I wanted to love these shoes! Unfortunately within 4 months they have totally fallen apart. I work in an outside job that is hard on my feet and ankles and have loved the feel of these shoes. Unfortunately, however, the material has simply not withstood consistent wear. They almost immediately lost their waterproofing so much so that the presence of any water will result in soaking wet socks. The adhesive connecting the base of the shoe has broken down almost entirely. I love the idea of these! Just can’t recommend them
They take a little bit to fully break in with the waterproof membrane being a little stiffer, but they are definitely fully waterproof. They hold up to deeper water up the boot, and you can walk around in creeks and shallow river areas just fine and stay fully dry. I really like the zero drop sole, and they're protective for rugged hiking while still giving some ground feel. The tread on them is impressively grippy, and spaced well so they don't get mud and stuff stuck in them. I'm glad I was able to receive a pair of these to review from Xero. They'll be my go to boot when I need full waterproof protection.
Great lightweight boot but you will feel any sort of major pointed rock (i live in the desert). I probably should have stuck with trail runners for when i daypack since i usually do more hardcore trails but i decided on these instead. I added a more sturdy insole (blue superfeet insole) and it helped so much when i do the hardcore terrain. wanted to try out the waterproofing near lake mead and fell in up to my knee in mud. I was worried i was going to loose a shoe but they stayed on my feet and kept them perfectly dry inside tho i was incased in mud lol
Just got back from my hike. California trails are muddy now after the atmospheric river and thus trails have this shallow streams of water. This one is my 2nd one, I’ve returned the 1st one because after using the 1st o e to cross a shallow stream of water on our king tide low tide tidepooling, water penetrated the shoe and my feet def felt It. Returned that one. And they proceeded with the exchange. Fast forward to now, passed another shallow stream of water. And again, went home it wet feet
I have a wide forefoot and narrow heels, which makes shoe fittings very difficult. These were a bit too tight across my forefoot. Xero says to try the men's version if you need wider, but the size will be -1.5. They only make down to a 6.5 so not small enough for me. They felt very light and flexible. One issue that I noticed is that there is tread on the bottom but not where your arch is, which creates almost negative arch support. I noticed that this tended to make my feet tip inward towards the arch more than normal. This might be something to be aware of when checking how these boots fit you.
These checked all my boxes in theory (zero drop, minimalistic, waterproof) but once I got them on my feet and on the trail, they just didn't work for me at all. To start, my socks and feet were completely soaked just walking in wet grass (no puddles). I found the shoe to be quite narrow for a barefoot style shoe, and my toes were smushed together. The shoelace area, which is pretty rigid, would also stab into the top of my foot with every step. These were perfect on paper, but unfortunately, I'll be returning them.
I LOVE these shoes!! Just finished five days of backpacking in Big Bend State Park with these boots. After only one three mile hike to break them in, I took these on some of the most rugged trails in Big Bend in March of this year - we gained around 2,000 ft of elevation with a pack weighing 65 lbs on day one. (Sidenote: water weighs SO much!!) I've done a fair amount of backpacking, and this is the first time ever that my feet were so comfortable that I forgot I had boots on. No swelling feet, no excessive sweating (in 90+ degree weather), no blisters. These will be my go-to backpacking boots from here on out. These are my favorite boots of all time. Flexible, light, nice and wide (I have short wide feet and the first xcursions were too narrow but these are great!) . I wore them to the Oregon coast and dunked them in a pool of bubbling wet sand and they came out clean and dry. Crazy. So comfortable for hiking. Walking on sharp rocks is no problem. And they’re pretty.
I have only used them twice so far, but so far I really enjoy these boots! Waterproof, rugged, tread works great on both dirt and rocky trails. They take a little bit to "break in" but that was pretty painless. I am more comfortable on hikes when I can feel the terrain under my feet, and these boots provide that as well as adequate protection. I may add inserts at some point for arch support, but that could say less about the boots and more about my high arches. I will agree with other reviews (and the details) that you should go up a half size. I'm typically an 8.5/9, got size 9, and they fit perfectly. Overall a great boot, and exactly what I was looking for in a "barefoot" hiking boot.
I haven’t fully broken in my boots yet. But thus far I love them. The wide toe box doesn’t squish my toes. The waterproof aspect has proven itself multiple times the past few months. These shoes carried me on lots of adventures in Alaska this summer with zero issues. My feet stayed dry on wet and muddy hikes and I have yet to get a blister with these boots. My feet don’t feel tired after wearing them all day or for an average hike. I still need to see how they hold up on a 50+ mile pack packing trip, but I am excited to put them to the test! They recommend ordering a size up (which I did) and they fit pretty good. I probably should have ordered 1.5 sizes up that way I have room for double sock layers.
