My $.02 on fit
Not to dismiss fit problems folks had, ever body is different. But it occurred to me Rapha’s choice and placement of elasticity and cut of materials is specific to a cycling position. That is, I had a similar criticism of long hems and short straps - until I got into a cycling position. On the bike, the strap length is very comfortable, as my torso is surged an shorter than standing. Likewise, the hem length seems long standing in a dressing room, but in a cycling position is perfect. So, just something to consider, the dressing room fit might be uncomfortable, but riding fit could be fine for you! Try sitting on the bench (or chair at home) with your shoulders forward and elbows on your knees.
Long Inseam Short Straps
Like other reviews have said, the inseam is very long. I am 6' 3" (36" waist) and the legs come down to just above my knee cap in size XL. And the straps are short and very tight. I have a hard time getting into the bibs and the straps cut into my shoulders. Had they shortened the legs and used a little of that material to lengthen the straps by 1-2", the bibs would have been perfect. I will be returning. One star for weird fit.
Rapha has the only chamois that protects a butt
Pro: I studied hard or bought and tried every set of bib shorts priced from 35 to $170 over the last year and I have determined that Rapha is the only, I mean only, brand in that price range that currently makes a chamois that actually reaches the sit bones and is dense enough for rides between 20 and 175 miles. Cons: My pair needs to be retired after 11 months; this product is not durable. I've had much cheaper shorts that have lasted thousands more miles. Every other time I look at REI, the price of this product has increased. They are tight in the front; there is too much padding or it is not quite in the right place. They also look very strange in the front, such that you will overhear people commenting when you are off the bike.
5'8 195lbs = Size XL Fits perfect
Great Fit and feel. The cushion is sufficient so no complaints there. The material is soft and stretchy and the grips really do a good job of staying put. I only have about 100 miles of saddle time in these but so far they have survived 2 washes. I just treat them as delicate garments and gentle wash with hang dry only. You can often catch these on sale but $130 for a solid set of bibs is good value.
Very strange sizing
I'm not a "large" person, medium to small generally. Pearl Izumi bibs I'm a large, so I tried the Rapha large as well. The legs are tight (tight tight), and reach the top of my knees. The straps are short and awkwardly spaced. I tried pulling the legs up, but they are so tight and the rubber is so grippy they aren't going anywhere. Really wanted to like them, I'd order some of the $270 options but I assume the fit will be similar.
Best bibs for the money
Thousands of miles later and they are still amazing. If they don’t fit you just return them. Giving something a bad review because your short doesn’t mean anything.
Best Chamois
When you are purchasing Rapha--you are buying them for the patented Chamois. That is what they are known for. They have a design like no other that perfectly covers the sit bones. You won't find a more comfortable cycling bib. After 30 year of cycling they are my favorite by far.
Don't let the pink tag fool you!
The pink tag was odd, and sort of a turn off... but the sales person at the REI store, said she'd heard good things about these, and they mainly carried them because one of the local clubs ranted and raved about them... so I bit... and they are by far the best and most comfortable chamois shorts/bibs I've ever used, made a huge difference... I also bought some Pearl Izumi at the same time, not their highest end, but probably middle of the road, and these are more comfortable on the road bike.
great brand, material, yet inseam is way long
I’ve been wearing Rapha for years and this company is known for quality and good fit. Every thing is perfect except these have the longest inseam! Like not flattering at all. It’s like they were cut for some one with a 32+ inseamI’m 5’9 204 with a 30’ inseam and these are maybe 3inches longer then I’d like. Even considering the price and the brand I can’t justify keep this as they will ride over my knee. Rapha please fix this!!!
Love these bibs!
Super comfy, great chamois! The straps may be a bit tight on the shoulders if you’re on the taller side, but they fit me great (5’10” with 31” inseam. Size M). I’ve seen some reviews complaining about the length of the legs as well, but honestly I really liked the slightly longer length. These are a major upgrade from my old performance shorts. Will be getting a few more pairs in the near future.
