Love this bike

I bought this bike in 2020 from REI. It has totally changed how I commute to work or appointments, and I love riding it--especially up those steep hills that I would avoid on a regular bike. It's also so nice not to have to worry about charging the lights separately from the bike, and the battery lasts a long time. The computer is also very easy to use and read, and the bike feels remarkably stable, even going over bumps and cracks. It is a little clunkier than it looks in the videos, but you really can fold it up and move it around, eg to an office. That feature gives me peace of mind that I can take it to appointments or events where I wouldn't feel comfortable locking it up outside. I am so glad I bought it, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a folding e-bike.

I love this bike

It’s so functional and it so well designed. If I had to be ultra picky, I have the Tern bucketload pannier which I leave on the bike all the time (it doesn’t interfere with folding) and when it’s filled with a lot of stuff the single sided Vektron kickstand doesn’t support the bike any longer it can tip over toward the loaded pannier side unless you hold the bike or place it against something for support. But like I said, 5 stars. Highly recommended.

Unbeatable versatility and performance

After logging over 700 miles in just a year with my Tern Vektron S10, I’m thoroughly impressed and feel compelled to give it a five-star review. This bike has been a game-changer for my daily commute and running errands, effectively replacing our car for most trips around town. One of the standout features of the Vektron S10 is its ability to handle a variety of tasks and weather conditions. It comfortably pulls my 4-year-old along, and with the addition of poggies, it manages ice and snow with ease, making it a reliable companion throughout the seasons. Despite being a folding bike, it rides with the stability and comfort of a traditional bike, which is a significant plus. It’s also lightweight for its class at 50 pounds and comes equipped with premium components that ensure durability and a smooth ride. Tern remains my favorite e-bike brand, and the Vektron S10 is a testament to their quality and innovation. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable and versatile e-bike. It’s a solid investment, and I’m excited to add more from Tern’s lineup to our family bike collection in the future. Feel free to tweak this review to better match your personal voice or add any additional details you think might help other potential buyers!

Perfect Cruising Companion

You get what you pay for! My partner and I both have Vektrons. We take them on our boat, in the Tern travel bags, and they are the perfect solution. We have traveled many islands of the Salish Sea and have been quite happy. They ride like a standard bike. No "folding bike disadvantages" on the road for this bike! And the infinite adjustments work for 5'7" me, and my 6'3" brother-in-law. I have a cargo trailer that I add for bigger loads when needed. It makes a perfect grocery-getter.

Solid Construction, Solid Feel

I have only had my Vectron S10 for a very short time. I think I’ve put 28 miles on it so far. That said, the bike rides great with and without power assistance. It feels solid on the road. I’ve not tested it on gravel or rough roads so it’s too early to know how it will handle.

poor build quality and attention to detail

lots of cheap plastic. had to remove the chain guard so it doesn't break. Rubber hinge cover won't stay in place. lights seem fragile. clip to keep pedal while folded is no longer included in the build. supposedly the new model folds better and doesn't need the clip. But the pedal still has to be removed to lay the bike in the trunk. hopefully it doesn't get lost. new model also states that it no longer needs the bungee to keep it closed. but the magnet to keep the bike folded doesn't align very well so the bike still has to be bungeed. for the price of this bike I would expect better quality. I will be returning it. it is too bad too because otherwise this is a great bike.

A "folding BICYCLE", not a "FOLDING bicycle"

Folding bicycles are all about compromise, so the question is how to pick the folding bike that has the compromises you want. The Vektron is a great bicycle first, and a folding bike second. It has 20-inch wheels, so it won't be the smallest folder. It will fit in a trunk or a backseat, but it will take up all the space. You can transport one in a typical car trunk without using a bike rack, if that matters to you. The tires are big enough that handling won't be twitchy. The mid-drive motor uses your gears and it will climb hills easily, even when they're more than a 15% grade. The rack at the back holds a lot of weight, and although the rails are thick, they're still compatible with Ortlieb panniers. Being a great bike first comes at a cost. The Vektron is pretty heavy, so you'll really want an elevator to move between floors. Sure, you can take it on transit and roll it on to a train, but if the train doesn't have a level platform to just roll off, it's going to be a lift to get it up even a step or two. There's a magnet on the front wheel that supposedly keeps the bike folded well, but they bundle a bungee cord to hold the folded bike together. I considered this bike and the Brompton Electric. I bought the Vektron because my commute is fully by bicycle (so the rack was important but the elegance of fold for transport by trains was not), and the mid-drive system helps climb hills.

Not as practical as it seems

I found this bike to not be very practical. It’s somewhat of a cargo bike, but also folding. The thing is, you can’t really expect to use both. If you want to fold it, you first have to remove any cargo accessories. This is obvious in hindsight, but easily overlooked when shopping. Folding is not as easy as described, but becomes so much more annoying when having to remove accessories too. For me it was the Yepp child seat, weigh is easy to install and remove but feels like a big barrier on top of folding. The weight of the bike also feels awkward. I returned this for a GSD, which is significantly heavier but somehow easier to manage. Overall would not recommend, but I gave it a 3 because it does feel like a quality and fun bike to ride. If you go into it with the above in mind you could be ok, I just think it’s quite a bit over marketed as so easy and flexible.

Tern Vektron S10 folding electric bike is a marvel

The build and ride are amazing! The Sacramento REI bicycle mechanics were incredibly knowledgeable about the bike, answered the myriad of questions I had and allowed me to compare and contrast this e-bike with others available at the store (lots of test rides... thanks for your patience). I ordered 2 of these e-bikes (his and hers to celebrate a 25th (silver) marriage anniversary - silver e-bikes, of course). When I picked up the e-bikes, the REI bike mechanic showed me how to fold the e-bike until I was able to do it myself. The bike mechanic also helped me load both folded e-bikes in the back of a VW Golf hatchback (unbelievable or not, it happened). The mechanic was gracious in reminding me that if there were any issues, I could bring the e-bikes back until I was satisfied. Needless to say, with this kind of customer service and e-bike, I am over the moon and enjoying the cycling adventures with my spouse. THANK YOU REI!!!
