short tights for runners with big thighs - a must
favorite running shorts
I bought these a month ago, and I am in love! I’m 5’0” 180 lbs, short and stocky, but I love to run and hike as well as bike. I could never find comfortable lightweight tights to run in, the thigh part all eventually ride up and it’s a pain to keep pulling down while trying to exercise. My legs are chubby, and these are the only ones that truly stay down!! I’ve run over 7 miles in these babies, and they do not budge! Being that I live in Phx as well, thicker clothing while exercising is a no go (especially outside). These are so lightweight, they are not see through, passed the squat test, I have a good amount of cushion (if you know what I mean) and they stay in place! They are on the pricier side, but it is so worth it in my opinion. I have previously shopped everywhere for running tights, but eventually all of them have failed me. I could’ve bought about 3 of these for all the money I wasted on other tights. I also use them for biking and hiking! Love the pockets and how breathable they are! I’m going to get more. Because I’m short, they end about 3 inches above my knees. I like this because it prevents chafing, and they are so comfortable! For reference, I purchased an XL. Perfect fit.

Rubber lining came off after a few wears
Al Pal

I really enjoyed the fit and feel of these shorts especially for long distance trail running. They're a great color, length, and fabric. The pockets are awesome as well. Sadly the rubber that lines the leg openings preventing them from riding up has become disconnected after only a few wears and washes. I never put them in the dryer either, so I'm quite disappointed as this was a major reason I purchased these particular shorts. I've had underwear with similar grippy rubber that lasted for many years.

Great shorts, but beware of the dye when washing

Comfy shorts that don’t ride or roll up. No more inner thigh chafing, and I LOVE the pockets on these! These would be 5 stars if they were colorfast…I haven’t been able to wash these in the machine with my regular clothes, and I always have to hand wash separately because they bleed colors so badly. See the attached photo for what I mean - this is after about a dozen washes. The color even transferred while I was running a half marathon in the rain, and now my white tank top is stained.

perfect running/hiking shorts

bought these shorts for trail running but ended up wearing them for all of the Colorado trail, they're that good. They dry fast, are the perfect length to prevent thigh chafing, and never ride up. The side pockets are snug enough to keep whatever I shove in there from bouncing around whether I'm running or hiking, and are incredibly spacious.

Lightweight and stay put

I grabbed these from the clearance rack while I was in store for a new helmet (because of course I did). I was looking for shorts that'd keep me cooler than my 7/8 tights when I'm doing speed workouts on the tread or when it's warmer outside. I have pretty full, muscular thighs, so I opted for the M (28.5" waist, 34 bra band, 5'2, 144lb, athletic build) instead of S so I wouldn't get sausage legs. the grips on the inside of these shorts *actually work* and the drawstring ensures they're not going anywhere. I don't remember the last time I didn't have to adjust something on my bottoms during an intense workout -- I'll definitely be getting more of these.

I love these so so so much. However...

I really love these a lot. I love all of Janji's stuff. It is perfect for running and the pockets are perfect if I do need to carry my phone (iPhone 11 pro max, so it is big). The only thing is the material does not seem extremely durable, which is disappointing. I saw some piling after only 3 uses, sort of looks like the material was braised by something and pulled the fabric, I feel like it should be more durable. Nevertheless, I have several pairs of these shorts.

My go to for long runs!

These shorts are the best things ever. Lightweight, zero chaffing, stay in place and I don't feel like a sausage in them either. I used them for a recent 40 mile run and had no complaints! They've held up through lots of washes as well. I got mine this year (2024) and the updated grippers (dots not a line) is really comfortable. Even after wearing them for 17 hours they didn't budge but also didn't dig into my skin. I'm 5'7" and 170lbs.

Buy these shorts but not the midnight color

This review is for the black color, which is being sold at full price but is an older model with a thin strip of grip at the hem which immediately cut into my thigh. Returning them. Buy these shorts, but not in the black on this site. The other colors (teal and cyano) are amazing and are my go to running shorts. They're great because they have the dotted silicon grippers at the hem; just ran my first marathon in them and they didn't budge, so comfortable.

REI & Janji--please take feedback about the label!

These shorts are awesome, they fit perfectly and do not ride up or sag down. But as another reviewer noted, the ironed-on label inside the waistband is right in the center of the pocket where you're meant to put your phone, and if you're carrying it on a long run, the tag pulls against your skin and causes blisters!! Hope that Janji will just eliminate this, it's totally unnecessary and the only flaw. The silicone linings of the leg openings fell apart after a few months, and I line dry mine. I didn't really need that feature but it totally doesn't last.

Excellent Quality, Choose Colors Carefully

Once the weather gets into the 50s and up, there are my go-to running shorts! Excellent quality, deep side pockets, lots of storage option, and the long length ensures against chub rub. I own 2 pairs already, and am trying to snag a 3rd! But beware: color selection is VERY important. I love all the color options, but some are less see-through than others. Like the yellow/green Super H2O -- completely see-through, commando or not! If that matters to you, keep it in mind when making your choice. Darker colors and busier patterns will be your friends.

Great long run shorts.

The fit is just a little off on these for me, but I still love them for long runs when I don't want to have to deal with chafing. I found that the waistband is very tight, and on very long runs can get uncomfortable sometimes (esp if my stomach isn't totally empty and/or I have any kind of bloat going on), however sizing up would have made the legs too loose. The sticky lining at the bottom works perfectly to keep them from riding up, and it doesn't irritate my skin at all. The pockets are also nice and keep and because they are tight, nothing jiggles around in them which is awesome.
