Perfect for journey into the clipless road biking
I was looking for comfortable shoes as I transition from flat pedals to clipless this spring. I picked these up at REI store and they were very comfortable. I am a size 10 road running shoe but I decided to go with size 44 to give my toes a bit more wiggle room. The toe box is quite roomy and the insole and upper material is soft. The outsole seems adequately stiff but I don't have anything to compare with. The two velcro straps provide decent adjustment without any pressure points. I was expecting to spend $90-120 on basic road bike shoes but at 75 these look like a steal.
Good shoe for the price!
Solid shoe that serves its purpose. For the money, and if you're just getting into road biking with clips - this shoe is ideal. The biggest compliment I can give this shoe is that it is comfortable. My challenge with the shoe is that the bottom is quite slippery/slick and when I'm looking to lock into my pedal - if I do not make a clean connection - my entire foot slips off the pedal.
comfortable Shoe
I’ve had these shoes for about 7 months now and am using them on my on my Peloton. They are very comfortable, no rubbing or blisters. I see these shoes lasting me for a very long time.
Beware of SPD cleats
I like the fit of the shoes but I want to echo the other guy from Longmont’s point that there is no backing plate for SPD cleats. Furthermore, poking around in the REI app, I couldn’t find where they even sell SPD cleats with a backing plate. Ridiculous! I ended up ordering some on Amazon. It’s no wonder people are intimidated about getting into cycling. It’s a nightmare to figure out what fits with what.
Lightweight, Excellent Value
Always used mountain bike shoes and SPD pedals for all my cycling but lately I've been getting more competitive in my road endeavors and wanted something lightweight. These surpassed my expectations. Not only are they lightweight (461g for the pair) but they work with SPD and 3-hole cleats - so you should be covered for almost all cleat pedals. My favorite MTB shoes weigh 716g w/o cleats so quite a savings - one of the cheapest ways I've saved that much weight! In the store I was comparing these shoes with a more expensive shoe with a BOA fastener. These Solstice shoes won out in weight, comfort, and price. Build quality is good. Made in Cambodia. (Make of that what you will. Personally I was happy to not see yet another made-in-China product but I have no idea what the working and/or political conditions are in Cambodia.) The sole is relatively cheap thermoplastic instead of carbon fiber. This allows slightly more give than a carbon sole but it's still plenty stiff. The "tread" nubbins on the bottom are plastic as well which is good for weight and cost but not so good for walking in, i.e. no traction. The vent holes on the sole are functional. The insole is perforated as well to allow airflow. Fit-wise they are comfortable and true to size. There is considerable Velcro strap overlap when I cinch these down. I tend to have this issue with other shoes so apparently I have shallow feet with delicate bone structure. I experimented by adding a second insole and the fit was just about perfect though I'll stick with just the one insole. A caveat regarding cleats: if using with 2-hole cleats - it does not come with a backplate for cost and weight reasons I imagine. 2-hole cleats do not come with a backplate so you'll need to shop around or just use a 3-hole to 2-hole adapter. The latter option is more practical though not ideal as the setup is heavier and bulkier. Overall an excellent value. Not a flashy shoe but lighter and more comfortable than much more expensive shoes. Very happy with purchase.
Great shoe at a good price
I use these shoes with my Peloton and they have been a great choice. I have a wide foot and these are very comfortable.
SIZING OFF
Sizing chart is Incorrect. Size on shoe says EUR is a 38 / size 5 but the sizing chart says 38 is a size 6.5. I’ve already been waiting weeks to finally wear the shoes because I had to order a special SPD cleat adaptor. Super sad because it’s taking so long to get cleats and haven’t been able to ride. Seems like a great shoe otherwise
Good shoe for indoor cycling
Great basic shoe. Got myself and my partner a pair of these to use for indoor cycling and we both love them. Comfortable, no heel slippage, nice and supportive. Cleats are sold separately. I discovered after they arrived that SPD cleat adapters are not included, so we ended up having to get some of those. Installing them was a little tricky, as I had to use a blade to cut through the footbed of the shoe, under the insole. All in all, a decent shoe for our purposes. The black looks really sharp.
Excellent shoes and price
Bought these as my first pair of indoor cycling shoes for my new Peloton. I’m new to cycling and these shoes made it comfortable and easy to start. No fatigue or discomfort. The shoes look and feel well made. I looked at various brands, styles, and prices but these were the best overall. I wear a size 10US but had to go to a size 11US/ 44UK.
Sizing chart poor: false/inaccurate
I wear M 13. I was dubious about the size chart, but followed it and ordered EU 46. They are more like 11.5-12, i.e., could barely get my 13 foot inside. Take note!
