Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Fabric above big toe joint gets pinched by harder material on either side. Creates holes! And waterproofing poor. Newest design has much more fabric there. Third pair of Lone Peaks.

Bought these boots for snow hiking in Colorado and the waterproof seal broke on mile 2. Wet feet/socks the entire trip.

I originally bought the first run of the Altra all-weather hiking boots. I had to return them under warranty with less than 4 months use because a hole had opened up along the seam of the toe box and sole. They sent me a new pair of the newest version, which were these. They lasted a year, and then I found splits on both shoes at the toe seam, once again. I've also had issues with the "all-weather" aspect of these. I had to go back and verify that I received the waterproof version after my feet got wet going through some very shallow creek crossings (water didn't even go over the toe of the boot). I do love the zero drop heel, wide toe box, and the light weight, but the lack of durability and waterproofing is too much. I'll be going back to Merrell for my next hiking boot.
The quest for hiking boots/shoes that work for me is not one I enjoy because my feet are shaped like triangles: wide at the forefoot and narrow in the heels. These look a little funny when looking down at them, but they fit with no pinching in the forefoot. They are also super light. So far I've worn these for ~15 days of backpacking and day hikes and had zero hotspots or blisters. I didn't get to try out the waterproofing, but in dry conditions, these worked well. In rocks, I wish the boot offered more protection. The rubber on one of the toes is already getting pretty scuffed up, so it'll be interesting to see how that holds up, and the tread tackiness has decreased, but that could be because of all the dust.
The most disappointing feature of this boot is that they didn't put gaiter hooks/velcro on this model. I don't understand why, and I can't even use Altra's short stretchy gaiters over this boot. I love the brand, just don't get the oversight on this model. I had a previous model of Lone Peaks from 2018 that had the attachment points, so not sure why that isn't standard on all new models. Otherwise, I've pretty much pledged loyalty to Altra, as they are comfortable and fit my bilateral bunions in normal width shoes. I appreciate the zero-drop heel and the roomy toe box.
Bought these boots for a five night hiking trip in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu in Peru. I absolutely loved them until I got caught in a downpour in the middle of the city in Bogata, Columbia. Within 5 minutes my feet and socks were soaked through. I'm still giving the boots three stars because they are so comfortable and preformed so well on multiple hikes in very steep terrain. I'm very lucky that I didn't get caught out on the trail with only these boots. I wouldn't want anyone else to find themselves in this situation. If you really need a waterproof hiking boot, these should not be an option.
I love this boot. I have put in over 500+ miles on them in the last year doing some gnarly long distance trails in poor conditions. I agree with other commenters that these are a sponge, however, I find that they dry off quicker than other heavier boots. My only gripe is the fabric on the shoe is not resistant to wear/tear. Specifically near the top latches for the laces. Within the first 20 miles of wearing them, these metal pieces tore up the fabric on the boots. I wear these boots from mild winter conditions to the desert. They perform great in both conditions. Wish they were more durable, but they are just mid height trail runners.
I have extremely wide feet and tailors bunions. These are the first pair of hiking shoes after YEARS of looking that actually fit my feet. I would agree with previous reviews that they don't seem very durable. They look kind of beat up after 4 hikes. They were water proof to a certain point. I bought them for a hiking trip in Ireland. On one hike it was raining the whole 7 hours. They stayed dry for about 2 but everyone's feet were soaked at the end no matter the brand so take that with a grain of salt. Overall, if they improve the durability of this shoe I think it's perfect for people with wide feet like me
I had my doubts these would be sturdy enough for a week of hiking the Colorado Trail. Due to a Morton's neuroma, NOTHING else was comfortable. These would have to do. They held up beautifully, didn't slip, no hotspots or blisters, good support. My feet were comfortable and dry. The waterproofing worked fine for me until I stepped into a river with them filling water bottles and the water went over the top of the cuff. Definitely not waterproof then (nothing would be). They dried out enough for our hike the next day. They really held together and gave me plenty of support and the tread is still in good shape.
