Not engineered properly
I own other Hydroflask beverage containers. Like other vacuum containers they work great. The issue here is simple, the large opening which makes for a great food access point, is made from a large piece of insulated plastic. The surface area of the lid vs. the body is substantial. In simple terms, it’s allowing hot and or cold (energy) transfer at a rapid rate. Bottom line, this is a premium product and thus should have a vacuum sealed lid like the body. Six hours after pouring in boiling chicken soup, container sitting in 50 degree temps, It was barely warm.
Great wide opening flask
Love the wide opening; makes filling, eating and cleaning easy. Great capacity. I usually boil a cup of water in the microwave and let it sit in the flask with the top on for a few minutes, then empty and fill with hot food. It keeps things nice and hot for lunch time.
Not really satisfied
I bought this on the 9th of August and I’ve used it 3 times and those 3 times I’ve used it the outside felt hot whenever I put soup or pasta in it and it’s not to feel this way. Can I get a replacement
Great Sturdy Vessel/Urn
Well since I was reminded to review this twice I will gladly post this. I purchased this as a new home for my sons ashes and I just say that he loves his new home. All the corners are smooth so they don’t hurt when carrying him in my backpack or when he’s snuggled up in bed with me. The with his ashes inside the total weight is light and doesn’t weight too much on longer hikes. I also have high confidence his new home will be sturdy enough over the years and we will be able to take him everywhere with us. No comment on airport security but we will cross that when we get there. Our sons love it and approves of his new home.
Doesn’t Keep Food Hot
I bought two of these for my lunch. I work outside a lot, so I’m cold days, I enjoy a warm lunch. These didn’t keep my boiling soup warm more than a couple of hours, and then it was only lukewarm. I bought Stanley food containers to try and they work amazingly well. My soup was still too hot to eat six hours after I packed it. Stanley is half the price of Hydro Flask and so much better. I’m lazy and put them in the dishwasher and the insulation hasn’t declined. In Hydro Flask’s defense, they sent me new containers thinking the others were defective, so they do stand behind their products, which I very much appreciate. I gave them two stars because they don’t leak. I’d give Hydro Flask as a company five stars for exemplary customer service.
Good Quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Hydro Flask-20oz Insulated Food Jar free from TryIt Sampling for a review. It is really nice and is just the right size to take soup. It does keep it hot for about 2 hours. After 4 hours it is just lukewarm. It is light weight not heavy at all. It is also good to take nut and fruit mix and other snacks in. I would recommend it but not for keeping food hot for long periods of time.
Very disappointing...not like other HF products
I was very excited about this purchase. I've long packed soup in my Hydroflask bottles and it is HOT hours later. But, a pain to eat chunky soup or noodles out of a bottle. So, I thought I'd splurge on the food jar for ski lunches. The lid is very ineffective, and since the lid is so proportionally large on the jars, it loses a lot of heat. You can feel the heat coming out of the top - melts a candy bar in same bag, and after only three hours, soup is room temp. Even preheating jar with boiling water and packing lots of insulation around it - it just doesn't work.
Excellent Food Jar!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As soon as I received it, I used it for my homemade chicken soup. I brought it with me to a function where I brought my lunch. It kept well insulated, and kept my soup fresh & warm!! The color of the jar is very pretty too. I’ve also used it for fresh fruit on the go, and it stayed nice & cold. I’m amazed with Hydroflask, and definitely recommend this product!!
Couldn't keep hot soup hot
This is a sturdy container. If you need to protect a muffin, it'll do! It adds a lot of weight when full so I left it in the car for an after hike meal. After 3 hours, the tomato soup wasn't even lukewarm. I preheated the container by filling it with hot water first, letting it sit, and then adding the hot soup in but it didn't quite work out this time. I tested this beforehand with just boiled water from an electric kettle and kept it outside of the fridge overnight. The water was still hot! I'm not sure what happened with my soup. :( Maybe the seal wasn't ridiculously tight?
Latte Mug Supreme
I have a Delonghi super-automatic espresso machine. The Hydroflask 20 oz food jar is short enough to fit under the spout and big enough for my large latte. My mornings just got way better. The only improvement I would be a lid I could drink from. Do any of your travel mug lids fit?
